With the whole concept of "sleep" as opposed to death in the series, Nomura has shown that nothing can be destroyed for good.
Ven defeated Vanitas, there's no doubt about that.
However, in order to truly heal, to truly become himself again, doesn't Ven need Vanitas' heart? In KH, the heart is your identity, your sense of self. If Ven were to miraculously sprout a new piece to fill his broken heart, then he wouldn't really be the same person he once was. So somewhere out there, whether in a state of stasis or what have you, I believe there exists the other piece of Ven's heart.
Now, while this doesn't necessarily point to Vanitas' return, it does provide a reasonable basis, one that isn't grounded in fan service. At the very least, I think it would be less fan service than the prospect of Xion, Roxas, and Namine returning.
