I guess I should warn against spoilers, but they are certainly only minor for games other than KH1.
This isn't an attempt to disprove what we already have had confirmed for quite some time now, I just recently have encountered an issue I hope to have clarified.
The accepted transference of Keyblade ownership in KH1 is this:
That last point is where I'm suddenly lost. Before playing BbS, I was totally on board with this perspective. However, we now have MX and Vanitas wielding Keyblades, both having chosen darkness. Riku now has his own Keyblade, and while he is no longer "a creature of the darkness" as I recall Mickey saying, he certainly isn't the "lightest" guy on the block.
So there are only two possibilities, both prompting a question:
I personally am leaning toward the latter. The most sensible, logical thought I have had was that Sora regained ownership of the Keyblade due to the fact that he had already used it and it somehow had connected to him, and that his heart was seen as stronger than Riku's. Thus, darkness is left as a less relevant factor.
However, I'm sure someone here has a definitive answer, and so I'd much rather someone give me something more concrete.

The accepted transference of Keyblade ownership in KH1 is this:
- Riku disappears in CoD on DI; Sora reaches for him and touches his light, thus temporarily "stealing" his Keyblade
- Sora continues to use Keyblade throughout KH1
- In HB, Riku reclaims his Keyblade.
- Keyblade chooses Sora over Riku due to Riku choosing darkness.

So there are only two possibilities, both prompting a question:
- The Keyblade did indeed choose Sora because Riku chose darkness. If so, what makes it different from MX and Vanitas in BbS? Why do their Keyblades not "choose" to leave them?
- The Keyblade chose Sora due to some other factor than Riku's chosen path of darkness. If so, what was the decision based on?
