Spoiler ShowChapter 7: Speeding through the lanes between, the three of them went searching for another world. Suddenly, a huge wind started blowing. The three of them gasped as they lost control of their gliders. One wind blew Ciaran away from the two and they lost sight of him. Hydro was panicking now as she fought for control. Inferno too, got blown off and she soon lost sight of him. Thankfully, she had spotted a world. Hydro dived down into it but the wind raged on. Then she too got blown off in the same direction…
Ciaran woke up in a dark place. He was on a beach. It was very gloomy and he could sense darkness. Was he dead? He spotted his Keyblade impaled in the ground a few feet away. He grabbed it. Suddenly, dark tendrils sprouted out of the ground. Ciaran slashed at one but two immediately came up to replace it. It trapped his arms and legs and eventually created a dome around him. A dark light opened in his chest and he could feel himself growing weaker...
Inferno had gotten lucky. He had regained control of his glider and managed to land safely in a world. He was now walking around, trying to find people to tell him where he was. Even though the place seemed populated; there was a market square and lots of houses, there didn’t seem to be anyone around. As he was entering another street full of houses, a man stepped in front of him, with a lethal looking silver sword. And he was pointing it straight at Inferno. “Who are you?” he demanded. “My name’s Inferno,” Inferno replied,” and there’s no need for that weapon!”
“Are you one of them?” the man asked. “One of what?” Inferno asked. “Those creatures,” he replied. “Are you talking about the Scourge?” Inferno asked. “Yen Sid told me and to friends to destroy them with this.” With this Inferno took out his Keyblade. The man gasped. “You have a Keyblade?! Follow me. My name’s Leon.” Inferno decided he could trust him and followed him. Now that he wasn’t pointing the sword at him, Inferno could see that he was quite old. But he was still very fit and looked as if he could take Inferno out in a fight. “Sorry about the precautions,” Leon told him. “Welcome to Radiant Garden.”
Ciaran woke up yet again. He was lying in a courtyard of some sort. Ciaran sighed. So it was all a dream… It was strange though. He thought he had been there before. Ciaran got up and examined his surroundings. There was a monument of some sort in the middle of the place and behind him, there was a gate that led into a walled city. In some parts, though, the wall was weak and parts were missing altogether. Ciaran walked over to the gate, making his way in. However, two spears immediately swung across the entrance. Two suits of Armour stepped out, holding the spears. Somehow, Ciaran knew that there was no body in either of the suits. “Password!” Their voices were metallic and scratchy. Ciaran knew they weren’t going to let him past. “I don’t have a password. Let me in.” Both suits’ eyes turned red. “Eliminate! Eliminate!” Both statues advanced towards him and Ciaran summoned his Keyblade and took on a battle stance. Guess he would have to take the direct approach….
Hydro walked over to the wrecked courtyard. The tiles on the floor were cracked and it looked like it had been there for years. Up ahead, part of a wall was collapsed and Hydro walked through it. There was two paths she could take. One was stairs that led into another building. The other also looked like it was collapsed. Hydro decided to take the stairs.
Once up, she looked around. There was two windows over-looking a huge valley and there was something that looked like a castle in the distance. Hydro was about to move on when a sharp, four-edged star impaled itself in the ground beside her. Hydro jumped and looked around, searching for her attacker, but there was no-one there. Hydro summoned her Keyblade. “I wouldn’t do that if I were you!” the invisible voice said. “Even though you can’t see me, I can see you. Now do what I tell you. Walk down that road toward the gate. Once outside, you’ll see stairs leading to a lot of houses. Enter the largest one and don’t move. There will be people waiting to “welcome” you. And remember, I will be constantly watching.”
Inferno strolled along, following Leon. “So, you’re saying you know Sora?” Leon asked. “Yeah,” Inferno replied,” Do you know him too?” Leon smiled. “Him and I go way back. He helped us remember this town’s real name. He also visited here on both of his adventures.” “His adventures?” Inferno asked. “Well, the first time he was fighting the heartless and the second they were up against the nobodies.” “They?” Inferno said. “He was accompanied by his two friends, Donald, who was a wizard, and Goofy, the captain of the royal guards. They worked for the king.” “The King?” “You sure ask a lot of questions, don’t you? King Mickey. He is also a Keyblade wielder, just like yourself.” Inferno had a thousand more questions to ask, but they had arrived in a street with their destination. “There it is,” Leon said. Let’s go in.” Inferno made to walk in but stopped. “Hydro!?” Hydro was looking miserable and her hands were handcuffed. A young woman was right behind her with a metal star aiming at her. “Hey, whoa, that’s my friend there. She’s harmless!” Hydro started to protest but the woman nudged her. “Quiet, you. Even though she’s your friend and Leon trusts you, I still have to check her.” The woman suddenly straightened and stood still. Suddenly, Ciaran stepped out of the shadows with his Keyblade at her back. Inferno hadn’t seen him at all before he stepped out. “Unlock the handcuffs,” Ciaran said. His voice was very calm. At once, the woman unlocked Hydro’s handcuffs. She ran over to Inferno, rubbing her wrists. “Alright, walk over there and don’t dare attack any of us…” The woman ran over to the man with Inferno and whispered something. “Yuffie, no!” he shouted just as the woman threw her star at Ciaran. Ciaran gave a little smile. He then grabbed his Keyblade and cracked the star. When the star split, a fierce gust of wind blew through the square. Yuffie gasped. “My ninja star!” She gave Ciaran a murderous look and started towards him. “Don’t start Yuffie!” the man said. “Let’s just start over and walk into the house, ok?” Yuffie sighed. “Ok, Leon,” she said.
Inside the house, Hydro sat beside Inferno on a bench. Ciaran stood with his arms crossed and one leg up against the wall. Hydro had just finished explaining their adventure so far to Leon, Yuffie and two others who introduced themselves as Aerith and Cid. “So, now we’re going around the worlds, destroying the Scourge.” Leon looked thoughtful. “I wish we could help you, but…”
Yuffie looked sad. “Merlin helped Sora by giving him magic, but….” “But what?” Inferno said. Aerith looked like she might cry. “Merlin died, Inferno.” Inferno looked shocked. “Oh,” he said,” I’m sorry…” Aerith smiled. “It’s ok,” she told him,” You didn’t know.” “Actually,” Leon said,” There is one way we can give you magic.” “How?” Hydro asked. “About 2 years before he died, Merlin had been training an assistant in magic. He’s almost as good as Merlin was. I bet he can give you powers. “Great!” Inferno exclaimed. “So where can we find him?” “Well, see, that’s the problem. He went missing a few days ago. The last known sighting of him was at the castle.” “Then it’s settled,” Ciaran said. He hadn’t spoken since they got into the house. “We go to the castle and find this assistant.” “Great!” Inferno said. “Let’s go!”
The three of them walked along the path up the hill to the castle. The three of them walked in silence. Inferno was mindlessly dragging his Keyblade behind him, Ciaran was swinging his at his side and Hydro was examining her new one more closely. None of them spoke and the hot sun beat down on them. Soon, they all reached two tall golden gates. “Great!”Inferno exclaimed. “Now what will we do?” “Well this is a KEYblade,” Ciaran told him and inserted his key into the lock. A little blast of light came from inside. The lock split and the gates slowly swung open. Ciaran glanced back at the two of them and walked on. There was a huge flight of steps up to a circular entryway with huge gold doors that led into the castle. Outside the doors were two people in black cloaks. The taller one turned around and Ciaran felt a chill go down his spine. Did he know him? Inferno gasped. “You’re the guy from the beach!” Inferno took his Keyblade and ran at the two of them, jumped and struck down. However, his Keyblade met thin air. The two cloaked people had dodged it with blinding speed. Inferno landed and turned around to face them. “Why did you bring us here?” Hydro asked. The taller man spread his arms wide. “That was no fault of ours! Had we our way and we would have killed you where you stood.” “Enough of that,” Ciaran said. “Who are you?” The taller turned to the other. “I don’t have time for this, Kurai. Summon some Scourge to get rid of them and let’s leave. Beside, we already got what we came for.” Inferno looked above the huge doors and spotted a person in robes chained to the wall of the castle. Two huge buzz saws were slowly advancing on him. “You Merlin’s apprentice?” Ciaran shouted up. As he had tape over his mouth, the man managed a nod. Inferno scratched his head. “Great, how are we going to get him down?!” he exclaimed. Suddenly, there was a cold bubbling noise and the three of them turned around. A huge black armoured creature was behind them. Inferno’s eyes widened. “You ready, Inferno?” Ciaran asked. “Hydro, get him down from there. We’ll take out this bad boy.”
Hydro climbed the walls using foot holes and got to work on cutting the chains. Meanwhile, Inferno and Ciaran got to work on the Black Scourge. It faced the two of them with a cold look in his red eyes. Then it charged. “Split!” Inferno shouted, and he and Ciaran jumped out of the way. Ciaran stood in front of it, beckoning him to attack. The Knight swung his sword down, and Ciaran climbed on to it while it was momentarily stuck in the ground. While the Knight was more interested in getting Ciaran of his shoulder, Inferno ran around, looking for gaps in the armour. He found two; one under his armpit, and one at the back of his knee. “Ciaran!” Inferno shouted. Ciaran jumped over the Knights swinging sword and looked down. The Scourge, trying to get Ciaran off had slashed itself in the neck. Blue blood oozed out of the cut, and the Knight roared in pain. Inferno pointed to the armpit, and then he got to work on the leg. Ciaran swung down the Knights gigantic armour, and, with one hand holding on, started stabbing the Knights armpit. It roared and flicked Ciaran off of him. Ciaran was knocked to the ground by the force. He went to Inferno. “Try taking its armour off,” he told him. Inferno nodded. He jumped up on to the legs and wedged his Keyblade in a chink at his knees, using it as a lever to pry the armor off. The black leg piece swung off, revealing a soft, tendery black skin underneath. “Gross, man!” Inferno exclaimed. He and Ciaran ducked and weaved through the Sword slashes, knocking off some armour as they went
As this was happening, Hydro was working on the chains, to no avail. They seemed to be glowing and Hydro realised that the cloaked people must have enchanted them to make them unbreakable. She turned to the apprentice. “You, what’s your name?” she asked him. “Silver,” he replied, looking nervously at the grinding saws. “Do you want me to help with the chains?” he asked her. Without waiting for an answer, he started chanting, and the chains grew looser. Hydro half-smiled, now that her job was a lot easier. Soon, the chains fell free, and Silver fell to the ground. Hydro jumped down after him, looking at the fight in the courtyard. “Come on,” she told him,” we have to help!”
Inferno and Ciaran each jumped on the Knights shoulders, opposite each other. The helmet was the last remaining piece of armour. They both put their Keyblades in the space between the helmet and the head. “Ready?” Inferno asked. Ciaran nodded grimly. “Pull!” The helmet flew off, but a sudden blast of wind threw the two of the Scourge and blinded them. When the wind died down, Inferno looked up, with a gasp. There was no huge body, just a woman, looking at Ciaran. Ciaran got up in a trance and walked over to her. She held out her arms. “It’s ok, Ciaran,” she told him. “Your mother is here now.” He walked over to her. Inferno and Hydro looked at each other. Ciaran stopped before her. “Nice try,” he said, and planted the Keyblade in her stomach. Inferno gasped, but when he took the blade out, the illusion wore off, and the Black Knight dropped to the ground, stone dead. “Ciaran!” Inferno ran over to him. “How did you…” Ciaran kept his eyes on the ground. “My family is dead,” he simply said, and began walking towards Leon’s house. Inferno and Hydro glanced at each other, and ran to catch up with him.
“Thank you. Thank you all.” Silver was in his study, looking over his spell books, with the three Keyblade wielders in the corner. A lot of books filled the place, and many of them were big, and dusty. “This might be it,” he told them, and slammed an ancient dusty tome on the desk. “Now, I can’t give you specific magic,” he said. “In fact, this gives you control over an element or something, but you cannot choose.” He flicked it open to a page with some ancient writing inscribed on it. “Here we go,” he said, and began chanting. Hydro looked kind of nervous, but Ciaran stared at the ground. However, the three of them were startled when seals of light appeared at their feet. Wisps of energy began floating upwards, and entering their hearts. This lasted for about a minute before the chanting stopped, and the three of them felt very tingly. Silver hurried over to a heavy door, beckoning them to follow him. “Come; let us test your magic.” He opened the door, and it was a spacious, blank room. “Ciaran, you go in first. We will observe through the glass.” Ciaran stepped in, and the door swung shut behind him. A speaker in the corner of the room, carried Silver’s instructions. “Just point your hand, or Keyblade, at the wall. You will know what to do automatically.” Ciaran pointed his hand at the wall, and felt power building up inside him. He knew what to do. He forced the power to his fingertips, and shot out powerful bolts of lightning. Some were red, some blue, some even black. “Very good, Ciaran,” Silver said.” You have control over Energy. Now please allow the other two to try it.” Ciaran stepped out, and Inferno walked in. He felt the same thing that Ciaran did, but this time, he shot out a burst of flames. Inferno was delighted, as his too came in all different colours. Red, Green, even black, which, Inferno thought, was insanely cool. When it came to Hydros turn, she shot out a gush of water. Silver clapped his hands. “Excellent!” he said. “As your powers evolve, you will become stronger with magic, and maybe even gain control over new powers!” “I have something to ask you,” Ciaran said. “What did those two figures take from you?” Silver’s smile faded. “Oh yes,” he said. “They took the resurrection amulet. Not to worry though!” he told them. “They can’t use it, unless they get a powerful Necromancer. Now, I understand you’re travelling around the worlds, defeating the scourge.” Inferno nodded. “A word of warning, then,” he said. “If those two can summon those abominable creatures, that means that they may have created them. We had the same thing a few years ago with the heartless…” he trailed off, looking into the distance. “Thank you for everything, Silver,” Hydro told him. “We are going to go now, and visit new worlds.” Silver waved goodbye, as the set off to say goodbye to Leon and the others. A figure in Black robes suddenly stepped out in front of them. It was Kurai, one of the people that had summoned the Scourge. He laughed. “Let’s test you out now,” he muttered, and with a wave of his hand, separated Ciaran from the other two. Ciaran turned and nodded, and Inferno ran off to get help. “ Alright Kurai,” Ciaran said, “Let’s see how good you really are with that thing.” The two fighters charged at each other. Hydro covered her eyes. Inferno ran to Silver, thinking the worst. The last thing that went through Ciaran’s mind was the prospect of tearing this evil person limb from limb…
