This has troubled me for far too long. Why does Riku stay on the other side of the Door to Kingdom Hearts? Sure, Mickey might have had some business, but what about Riku? Was it because he didn't want to face Sora and the others back at the Islands?

Actually, only darkness could go in and out of the door, as said in that Hollow Bastion place at the End of the World (forgot what it was called).
Riku was basically trapped in there.

Remember he didnt want to give it up yet because he wanted to finish the darkness in his hart because the heartless ansem was still tourchering his heart so he went to castle oblivian in com for gba and he fought the organization to find out why the darkness wouldnt leave his heart or somthing.
because it took two hearts and two keyblades to shut the door
i would say it was because mickey and riku had a plan and that was the only logical way to go for him
That's what Mickey was there for.
Only beings of darkness could pass through the door. Riku wasn't a being of darness at the time.
