On one hand, I see where Disney is coming from with this price point. For the average family of four going to the theatre, this would have cost like $60. So with larger groups of people sharing one screen, this will be a bargain and they stand to lose money from piracy/account sharing. So it makes sense that they want to charge a premium price.
But for someone like me, who would have to watch it solo, it would cost me double the normal amount as seeing it in a theatre, not including the subscription fee, which makes me unlikely to watch it considering I was already on the fence. I’m also interested to know if this is a rental or if it’s unlocked permanently once you pay the $30. Either way, I can’t see it being worthwhile and unless you have people to split the cost with.
Agreed. For families, this is definitely a great investment and is cheaper than going to the theaters.
My worry is that Disney will crack down on account sharing because of this decision. Even if people intend to buy Mulan or not, I can't imagine that Disney would take the potential revenue loss from account sharing very well. On the other hand, why should people like us who might share our accounts with our friends and family be punished for splitting the cost of a highly over-priced VOD?
