“A scattered dream that's like a far-off memory... a far-off memory that's like a scattered dream... I want to line the pieces up... yours and mine.”
Once upon a time, there existed a series of threads where the KHI community discussed the production of a hypothetical Kingdom Hearts game. This project was called the KHI makes a KH Game! project.
As time went on, a dozen of passionate members decided to team up and take everything discussed up until that point to try to make the dream a reality: a Kingdom Hearts game, made by the fans for the fans. This game would feature an original storyline with original characters, completely seperate from the main games (with the only common theme being the mythos). The story would be that of four young heroes losing their homes and trying to find a new one: a place to belong. A story about fate and acceptance. A story about making new friends and understanding one another, even if the other has a different view on life.
Now, I know what you're thinking: why is this person telling me all of this?
Well, after years of hard work, we've realized that our part in this amazing project is done. While we've worked on it with great passion and dedication, we've grown older and simply don't have have the time anymore to give this project the attention it truly deserves. And so, it's time to hand it over to new and equally passionate people to pick up where we left off. After talking with Taochan about this, she told me I could post this thread here, in the "Future of Kingdom Hearts" section.
This all started on May 28th 2011. The project was moved away from KHI at the end of 2012. Now, at the start of 2016, we've decided to bring it back.. But under a new name: KHI makes a KH Production!
While this is a continuation of the previous project, we will not focus on making a fanmade game. Instead, I want you guys to have the possibility to decide on what you want to make. And so, the focus will be on delivering a fanmade production. This means you can turn this project into a graphic novel, a comic, a video mini-series, a short movie ... or, with enough horsepower, a game. In other words: everything is possible. I'd be honoured if you guys continued the work on what we've already made/written, but I can't really force you to do so. However, at the very least, it can serve as a base for what is to come.
Here are some of the mock-ups we made, that showcase what look we were aiming for:

Sidenote: every main character receives his/her Keyblade at the start of the story. Just like Sora, they're not trained Keyblade Wielders and learn how to use their newfound power throughout the story.
MAIN CHARACTERS (from left to right)
Brand - 15 years old
A stubborn, confident young man who has had military training and has lived in a military base in Basuelo for his entire life. He has a constant need to proof himself towards others. He has a knack for getting himself into trouble and often tries to outsmart people. However, more often than not, he ends up getting outsmarted himself (especially in the company of Ciel and Raine). Despite his stubborn behaviour, though, he has a kind heart and just wants to be looked up to. He acquires the power of Darkness and often gets scolded at for using Darkness by Raine and Ciel, but he doesn't see any problem in using the power of Darkness, as long as he doesn't do anything wrong with it. Throughout the story, he learns to have faith in himself and learns that true strength comes from the power of one's heart. He eventually gets teamed up with Ciel. While the two don't get along too well at first, they become good friends.
Ciel - 15 years old
A young, confident girl who comes from the mountains of Aria Peaks. Ciel loves her friends and often shows this by being extremely sarcastic around them. Somewhat of a tomboy. She can be somewhat of an oaf but not borderline silly. She was forced to leave her homeworld after being accused for the invasion of Heartless, because of her Keyblade. Because of this she sees the Keyblade as a curse. The events that transpired on her homeworld made her lose her friends and, because of that, she feels somewhat insecure towards making new friends. She eventually gets teamed up with Brand. Throughout the story, the two grow a very powerful bond. Ciel is the first person to accept Brand's Darkness powers.
Raine - 17 years old
A young man with a huge sense of righteousness and responsibility. He naturally takes on the role of leader figure. The events that occured in his homeworld left him with a feeling of distrust towards others. His father-figure in life (and prime minister of Demarsi), Seymour, used Darkness to gain more power and eventually succumbed to it, after a fight against Raine. These events left him with a grudge against Darkness, which leads him into a lot of (mostly) verbal fights with Brand. He ends up putting a lot of trust in Lucius. He eventually gets teamed up with Linnea. She eventually will help Raine open up to others.
Linnea - 14 years old
Being held back by her father for many years, she finally decided to discover what was beyond the borders of her town, Albarosa. Together with her friend Rydia she befriends people living in the Forbidden Forest. Eventually, she finds herself in the middle of an ancient conflict between the townsfolk and the people from the forest. After the Heartless invade her world, she runs away from home and decides to try and find her own way in life. Linnea is very naive and not really powerful, but highly talented in magic and long distance attacks. Her kid-like mindset does enable her to often see the essence of things. She eventually gets teamed up with Raine and Mushu, who teach her to be more independent.
Oswald
A kind-hearted little rabbit with the power to connect hearts. This power enables him to create "Bridges" between worlds (by connecting the Heart of the Worlds with eachother). These Bridges act as portals for people to walk through and travel between Legacy City and other worlds. After summoning his first Bridge and meeting a heavily wounded Lucius, he decided to build a city for people in need of a new home. This city was named "Legacy City". Over the years he connected many worlds with Legacy City and built Bridges, so that people could visit Legacy City. As the city grew bigger and bigger, more an more people began to see Legacy City as their second home. Because he played such an important part in building Legacy City he's often seen as the mayor. However, he's not really fond of all these responsibilities. He cares a lot about Lucius and tries to help him find the Keyblade Wielders he's been searching for.
Lucius - 65 years old
A (supposed) former Keyblade Master who teaches Raine, Ciel, Linnea and Brand the ways of the Keyblade Warriors. He stopped being a Keyblade Master after one of his pupils, Animus, betrayed him to join his brother, Orpheus. His final attack in the battle against his brother and his former pupil left him blinded. Through the years, he teached himself to "see" using the power of Light. He sets the four heroes on a quest to save the worlds endangered by the Heartless to lock the Keyholes and restore the Bridges that have been severed by the Heartless.
In reality, he's been using everyone to help him achieve his ultimate goal: eradicate Darkness forever. Darkness had taken everything from him: his brother, his pupils, everything he held dear in life. And so he decided to take matters into his own hands and end the damage done by Darkness forever. But he couldn't do it alone and needed more Keyblade Wielders. He unlocked the Darkness inside The Horned King's Heart as a necessary evil to unset the balance between Light and Darkness and force new Keyblade Wielders to appear. Later, he set the events in motion that would make the main characters leave their homes and end up in Legacy City. He plans on using those Keyblade Wielders to help him use the Bridges to summon Kingdom Hearts and rid the universe of Darkness to create an utopia of Light. Using the power of his special Primal Keyblade (a special Keyblade that gives the wielder total control over the Light or Darkness in one's heart) he gained the ability to turn people into Sacrifices, pure beings of Light, by "overloading" their hearts with Light and destroying every bit of Darkness inside the heart. While his plans would destroy the universe, he thinks he's saving everyone.
Animus - 35 years old
A former pupil of Lucius who turned to the side of Darkness. After he betrayed Lucius, he helped Orpheus ambush Lucius' Temple, resulting in the death of Lucius' remaining pupils. Though, Lucius' unexpected retaliation forced both Animus and Orpheus to flee to the Realm of Darkness. The wounded Orpheus has been crystal stasis ever since.
Animus suffers from (partial) amnesia because of his long stay in the Realm of Darkness. Therefore, he doesn't remember being able to use the Keyblade or his past with Lucius. He only remembers his last mission: revive his Master, Orpheus. He honed his Darkness powers during his stay in the Realm of Darkness, becoming a very powerful Darkness user. By using the power of the Black Cauldron, which is said to grant one total control over Darkness, he hopes to do exactly that. He's acting as The Horned King's advisor in order to quickly acquire the items needed to unlock the Cauldron's full power.
The Horned King
An evil king trying to gain full control over Darkness by using the power of the Black Cauldron. He accidentally released Animus from the Realm of Darkness when summoning his first Dark Corridor. He uses Hen Wen, the pig, to locate the Cauldron ingredients needed to unlock the full power of the Black Cauldron. These ingredients are special items that hold a special connection to the world they're found in and the citizens of said world. He's assembled a council of Disney villains, promising them power in their respective worlds. Of all the Disney villains, he's the most powerful one.
SIDE CHARACTERS
Mushu
Having run away from home, Mushu searches for a way to prove the Guardian Spirits that he's a worthy of being one himself. He finds himself in Legacy City and finds Linnea in need of guidance. He introduces himself as a Guardian Spirit and decides to team-up with her. He acts as her guardian throughout the story and the two become great friends. He isn't too fond of Raine at first and, like Brand, often gets into discussions with him. He dislikes being called a lizard.
Archimedes
A stubborn owl left behind with Brand and Ciel, as part of a "joke" by Merlin the Magician in order to teach him a lesson. Archimedes takes on the role of counselor throughout Brand and Ciel's adventures. Despite them not getting along very well at first, Archimedes grows fond of both of them and is genuinely willing to help them in any way he can, mostly by giving advice and being a listening ear.
Sacrifices
Pure beings of Light. Originally existed only in the Realm Inbetween. For a very long time they've been in a battle against the Heartless. This fight preserved balance in the World. However, while Sacrifices are indivdually stronger than Heartless, their numbers decreased, resulting in the near extinction of Sacrifices. Lucius found his way into the Realm Inbetween and discovered the Sacrifices, losing ground to the Heartless. He felt connected with the Sacrifices, as he too had lost everything to Darkness, and made it his mission to save these pure beings from the evil forces of Darkness. Sacrifices can be recognized by the core of Light shining through their bodies, as if the Light's about the burst out.
Heartless
Pure beings of Darkness. For a very long time they've been in a battle against the Sacrifices in the Realm Inbetween. This fight preserved balance in the World. These beings steal hearts of organisms and transform based on which organism they stole the heart from (if it stole a plant's Heart, its shape will change to a plant). The base form is a Morph.
I'm also going to post a story outline of the story we've written for this project. This will include the worlds we've decided on using, as well as what would happen in said worlds. It's gonna take some time to write down, but expect it to be posted sometime next week. In the meantime, you guys can discuss what you want to make. Here's a list of possibilities (not limited to):
Graphic novel
Novel
Comic
Video-series
Short movie
Videogame

Obviously, if there are any questions surrounding the project (and there will be), feel free to ask me in this thread. Especially when it comes to story-related things, I'd love to go into more detail.
I'm really excited to see the community come together once again. Good luck, and have fun!
