-About a Girl
Nirvana was a grunge/alternative band from Aberdeen, WA. The lineup started with Kurt Cobain on guitar/vocals, Krist Noveselic on bass, and Aaron Burckhard on drums. The band went through quite a few drummers, including Chad Channing, who was the drummer recorded on "Bleach," their first album in 1989.
Though, Bleach wasn't very successful. The next album, Nevermind (1991), is universally known as their breakout album, because it was their first major record deal and included their signature song, "Smells Like Teen Spirit." From here on out, Cobain was swarmed with adoration from fans and misinterpretation of his own songs. (A followup album, "Incesticide" was released in 1992)
Kurt really didn't like the fan base he was attracting, so after the 2 or so years of touring in support of Nevermind, he went into the studio to record something completely different, and more raw. This spawned the 1993 album, "In Utero." Cobain died a year after in April, 1994, effectively ending the band. Grohl went off to form The Foo Fighters, who have been mildly successful. Noveselic was in a few crappy bands afterwards, and is now a politician.
