In the KHI 1.5 HD mix bundle, which game has your favorite story?
For me, it is very, very close between KHI and CoM.
KHI is simple yet almost elegant at times. It's a coming-of-age tale of a boy chosen by destiny to save the worlds from being forever consumed by darkness. He also needs to reunite with his friends while making strong, new relationships along the way. In the conflict between light and dark, Sora ascertains that no matter how strongly the darkness overtakes one's life, light will never be snuffed out for good.
CoM is all about memories and their vast importance in shaping who we become. Lured by the promise of reuniting with the friends whom they seek, the heroes set foot in the dangerous Castle Oblivion. An insidious plot unknown to the heroes, mysterious antagonists plan to wipe out their memories so as to use them as pawns, claiming the power of the Keyblade for them. Before all is too late, the deception is unraveled and Sora &company triumph.
Days is about the time Roxas spent in the enveloping shadow of Organization XIII. Deeper than that though, it's about the strong friendship between Axel, Roxas, and Xion, a relationship so powerful that it transcends their Nobody limitations to thrive. It is tragically cut down by a series of tumultuous events. I won't go further b/c I haven't gotten around to beating this game; hopefully, I didn't do it a disservice.
Meanwhile, on a parallel journey in CoM, Riku is forced to confront his darkness. Initially afraid, he learns that all people have darkness; what matters is how it is used. Harnessing his darkness for the cause of good, Riku smites the haunting remnant of Ansem SoD. Given the choice to lock him away permanently, Riku forgoes the option, choosing to walk his path, his way.
In the end, I gotta give the win to KHI due to a combination of nostalgia and the most epic usage of the Keyblade IMO, saving entire worlds.
