I know he still cares, but it’s whether I can get over this. It’s a risk really, as you never know whether someone will change, or whether you’re letting yourself in for more pain.

It's just a much a risk as you getting out of the bed in the morning. Are you going to lay there to be sure nothing happens to you, or are you going to take the risk to get up and experience life?

For the revenge part, make him feel miserable until he feels like crap. I honestly think this is a bit too complicated for a 14 year old boy to in deptly give you help on, as my longest relationship was about a month,.
