and i think he did it before kh2, like the end of days..when i defeated Roxas for the last time..
he used the power of darkness, or something like that and took on the for of XH

XH was defeated, Due to the blinding light of Kingdom Hearts...THis allows riku to get his body back
But because XH took over Riku's body for some time, a peice of him did remain in Riku's body
but at the end of KH2 i think its gone completly..
So to answer your question XH was defeated, its just a peice of him was in riku's heart
