So after watching Back Cover, I gave it some thought and realized that maybe Master Xehanort was able to have "incredible foresight" in DDD because he actually could see the future, and he could do this because of his keyblade.
ALRIGHT, so, to start of, the Master of Masters, when you go read his character bio in Back Cover, is said to have an eye that can see into the future, which is how he wrote the book of prophecies. He gave each of his apprentices a copy of the book, except for Luxu, who he gave his keyblade. Why did he not give Luxu a book of prophecy? Because his eye is in the keyblade, and holding the keyblade gives you the power to see the future. So, Luxu is tasked with finding his own apprentice, so eventually his keyblade gets passed on. Whether it goes directly from Luxu to Xehanort, or takes a while to get there, doesn't matter. Once Xehanort has that keyblade, he can see into the future. Thus, he is able to lay the groundwork for the whole series, and is able to plan all his time-travel bull-honkey.
Any of this is open for contention, but I have an interesting aside to this theory: how limited is his foresight? Clearly he has had failures throughout the series, but he always seems confident that things will go his way. Does he know he will fail along the way but ultimately succeed? Does he only see a vague idea of what will happen? Does another factor (a certain spikey-haired person) ruin his plans? hmmm...
