One of the Reynatis characters is also just a palette swap of a Twewy Neo character. So it's like, everything in the KH4 Zeitgeist.

For the sake of copium…

Maybe Nomura wanted this game to release before giving any more updates on KH stuff after the Steam releases. Just out of respect to the KH and TWEWY staff working on it. The game is absolutely benefitting from the lack of KH content. And the potential success of it could mean future opportunities for the TWEWY characters.

And no, I’m not suggesting they would delay the KH games or the full on marketing campaign because of Reynatis. But if Nomura has some flexibility with when to give us an update, I could see him working around this release.

I.

Really.

Hate.

This.

Thought process.

It's just what people were saying before FF7 Rebirth came out but now with this game.

It makes it all the more dumber cuz it makes it sound like KH can't have any proper focus until after a bazillion million other games come out.

If it makes you feel any better it's also not even true so there's no need to keep getting mad about it. KH and FF7 have overlapped multiple times. They'll show KH when they show it.

Relax. Because I knew you specifically would react with exactly this, I said it has no bearing on the game’s release or any significant marketing. But if the game isn’t coming out until 2026, there’s little reason to give an update right now when it would not only be premature marketing, but also pull focus from other projects Nomura and others are involved in. As it relates to Reynatis, I’m only talking about the six weeks between the Steam releases and the release of this game today.

Look how often KH came up in the Reynatis interview yet Nomura did not mention either ML or KH4 directly. He could have plugged either in that conversation, but clearly wants to respect the work put into this game by his colleagues and a young director who looks up to him.

KH4 will have its focus when it’s within a year of release. At that point, it won’t matter what else is coming out and when. But any updates prior to that are likely to be scarce if there are other projects Nomura and other KH staff are involved in.

The point of calling this out was that maybe now there’s a chance we’ll get a little something since this was the last non-KH project we know Nomura is involved in until Remake Part 3. There’s just one less reason to not give us an update now.

I know there's never truly a right time to feel schadenfreude, but it's hard to resist when it's a poorly conceived gacha game struggling to release

Nearly out of July! Any bets on an August release for ML?

Not at all. There will likely be over a month of pre-registration at least. Ever Crisis had three months, so it could be even farther out. But September at the earliest. DQ Walk released in September and is also a geolocation style game. Since it was a success, maybe they’ll aim for a similar release window.

On a serious note, I will say that I 100% expect it this year. It was officially advertised for 2024 - it was only Nomura that said they were ideally aiming for summer. I do NOT expect it to linger until 2025. Whatever’s causing the delay can’t be that severe.

But if they were to remove that “pre-registration coming soon” message on their website then I’d be more concerned.

Wasn't it someone being interviewed alongside Nomura who mentioned summer while Nomura was going on about releasing as soon as possible or something?

It was a back and forth response.

Rough translation though but

  • Q: When is the release planned?
A: Nomura: "We're working hard on it now, as you can tell from my expression. We're eager to release it as soon as possible."
Shirakami: "We want to release it at a time when it's not too hard to walk."
Nomura: "It's been hot since May this year, so will that be okay?"

Having just caught up with the UX/DR story stuff when Missing Link was announced, I was on board and excited to at least read up the lore or watch story cutscenes during the wait for KH4. Now enough time has passed where I actually don't care whether it comes out or not.

I wonder if they're trying to release it with a decent chunk of the game's story out, like 50% of the story?
I wouldn't hate the end of the drip fed story, but I just don't think they'd do this. That'd just be leaving money on the table when you could just drag it out, and if you're making a gacha game, you're generally not interested in leaving money in the table, in my experience.

From this moment on, Square Enix are forbidden from making and distributing any more Kingdom Hearts merchandise until the next KH4 update is given because I’m tired of this.
