It's insulting in a way that it makes it sounds plain, and dull, and that not much interest is shown. It's not like u have to show interest but, but it's like calling someone plainly by their color...kinda pointing them out..........anyway, just show respect to each persons nationality...just spell it out. Actually, if you want to be truly technical, Japanese is a *little* insulting, too, since it's the ?Chinese (it may be Dutch or something) name for them. The correct term is Niponese, or for Nipophiles: Nihonjin (Sun Origin Person: Person from the Land of the Origin of the Sun)
