No, the expirements were on regular people from RG.
However, I do think the process that Xehanort used to create the Heartless may have been somehow related to the Unbirths' process.

Could have saved yourself more time if you actually ya know, looked it up :v there was no way around it from the start.

As for the unbirths they weren't used to create the heartless, but they are the precursors to the creation of the heartless and by extension the nobodies. In fact they share some of the same traits as their predecessors IE erratic movement, appearance etc.

Like I said, I think Terra starts off the chain, and with what you said, unbirths being one of the events in that chain.

When he first saw the Unbirths, he asked "Are these the Unbirths master spoke of?" (or something along those lines). He didn't seem to really know what they were, so I doubt Terra was the one who made them.

They're the precursors to the Heartless, yes, but no, I don't think they were used to make them.

They used random people they picked up in RG (i.e. hobos) and experimented on them.

I wasn't saying Terra made the unbirths, i'm saying Terra possibly started a chain of events that lead to the heartless creation. And the unbirths are in one of those events that were 'used' to make the heartless. (or MX starting the chain of events but not him personally making the heartless.)

occurred. Darkness in the heart was what
Ansem was researching, but that darkness
became flesh when Xehanort concentrated
darkness within a pure heart, hence the pureblood,
and then the purebloods were replicated through
a machine in which he bore the insignias on.

It is the creation that may hold some resemblance
to what may have brought the unbirths into
existence, but of course their is no evidence
until the game and info itself is released. As far as
i've mentioned before (which was brutally butchered
by nonsense), The basic unbirth does not bore an
insignia, but the the actual symbol that the other
forms of unbirth have implemented on them can
actually be formed with the tentacles of the basic
unbirth. With this being said it gives was to believe
that either MX truly made these creatures, or that in
fact, he merely replicated them, by identifying the
unusual pattern the tentacles made crossed together
and creating an insignia through it.
