Wouldn't Ansem SoD travelled to DI the same way any heartless travels anywhere: via corridors of Darkness? He was just more powerful than other heartless (since he is Xehanort's heartless) and probably was the first to sense or be attracted to Riku's darkness that had started to grow through his ambitions to leave DI.

It's been said that Ansem SoD being on the islands in the beginning of the game could have been because of it being Xehanort's homeworld, and Riku's connection to Terra.
So Ansem SoD would've known these things and have been drawn to Destiny Islands due to these facts.

But the way he would've gotten to DI would most likely be by Corridors of Darkness. He is capable of summoning them.
