Now that Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory is coming to Switch, it naturally begs the question of if more of the series is on the way. However, Nomura unfortunately confirmed that there are no specific plans for more Kingdom Hearts games on Switch at this time. There is a silver lining though, as Nomura said there is a possibility that other Square Enix games he’s involved in could come to Switch. (We have more details available about that.) We’ll just have to keep our ears open .
Through a translator, Tetsuya Nomura confirmed there are currently no specific plans for more Kingdom Hearts games on Switch. Square Enix did consider ports of existing games for Switch in the past but found that it was technologically difficult. However, Nomura added that he believes Nintendo Switch is a very appealing piece of hardware and he had always wanted to do something on this console. Additionally, while he cannot speak for games at Square Enix that he isn’t associated with, Nomura did express that it is possible another game of his could come to Switch.
Bleh, bleh I say. What technical hurdles is keeping 15-18 year PS2 games from being on the system? Especially after FFX/X2 & XII got ported?
