They're adding a lot of new things to Minecraft, and they're letting us test them via dev snapshots! New biomes, new items, new blocks, a dedicated (custom) key for sprinting, and more.

1.7 doesnt even do anything now, you might as well have 1.6.2, except that a lot of servers have updated. 1.7 is there for the transition for some more of the updates
