Something I wrote in the middle of the night. It rhymes and it doesn't, so I guess it's a freestyle kind of poem. Hope you guys like it.
Staying up too late again, I know that you are too/
I wish I could just dial the phone and blurt out “I love you”/
I guess because love is a symptom for insomnia/
And we’re just two insomniacs who’ve gotten all the symptoms/
There are edges in our voices that could cut so deep/
And why are the words we mean the least are the ones we’ll likely keep?/
Like records and play them on repeat/
Please tell me something positive, so I can fall asleep/
Okay then I’ll start, I wonder if you can remember/
The day before the leaves changed their colors, early in September/
When we would lie on the hood of my car/
And make wishes on the same shooting star/
Before realizing that it’s just a lonely airplane/
And laughing like we would never laugh again/
But all you say is that nobody can hurt you like I do/
I know I do, but did you know I missed you standing there/
In the moonlight on the stairs, and your long blond hair/
So now I know, that even if I hurt you, you couldn’t let me go/
Truthfully, I didn’t think so… because I can’t either/
I’m just a shameless sinner trying to turn you into a believer/
So please believe me, I can go on and on and on/
Remembering the long drives home while singing our favorite song/
But you have to fall asleep eventually, laying there so serene/
So maybe I could apologize if I see you in my dreams/
