This is from Nomura's Secret Report Interview Part III:

VIII. When the heartless are defeated, what becomes of the stolen hearts? Also, when members of Organization XIII and other Nobodies are defeated, do they return to their original form?

When heartless are defeated, essentially the owner's hearts are rejoined with their once extinguished body, whichever world it may be on. As for the whereabouts of hearts in KHII that turn up, this time they remarkably went to the Organization (there is a foot note here that says "In Kingdom Hearts II after heartless were defeated, the many hearts were absorbed by the Kingdom Hearts of "people's hearts"). However, in the rare case that the body changed into a Nobody and when there is no container for the heart, it resorts to a state of suspension.

In the case of a Nobody being defeated, it's a little more complicated. If the above mentioned hearts are liberated, they return to their original form. However, if the heart is still stolen by the heartless, the Nobody's body is swallowed by darkness. If somewhere in the world their hearts are taken back, perhaps they might be able to return to their original human form.

Since Nomura has not said the limitations and rules on how many times a strong person can split into a Heartless + Nobody, one can practically be immortal in the KH storyline. As long as you are split into Heartless + Nobody, whenever your forms are defeated you simply become whole again. Then you can split once more into Heartless + Nobody, rinse and repeat.

The catch for this cycle is:
- as per above, if your Nobody is liberated before your Heartless is, you simply disappeared into darkness. You have to be defeated Heartless first, then Nobody.
- in your whole person form in the World of Light (as we are now, alive), if you die by serious injury or accident, then you are truly dead (like Ansem the Wise). So don't die when your Heartless + Nobody have been combined into a single form again.

There's a lot of interesting implications too:
- there's a chance for any of the Organization XIII to appear as a whole character in the next KH game, if their hearts have been liberated (Axel, Zexion, Xigbar, etc)
- remember what was said about Axel returning to "a full body" once more?
- Vexen said he doesn't want to disappear into darkness when he's dying, does he know about his Heartless "being not available"?
- Fake Ansem defeated in KH1 + Xemnas defeated in KH2 = Xehanort will be alive (whole) again.

Isn't it fun to exploit the rules of the KH universe? :D

How to Become Immortal in KH Universe

Have we forgotten about death? Becoming Heartless isnt the substitution for dying in the KH universe. People can still die; becoming a Heartless only occurs when your heart is consumed by another Heartless (or in Soras case, "unlocking" the darkness from the hearts interior, which resultably gives you every aspect of a regular Heartless, except you keep your sense of self, rather than acting solely apon instinct).

I think the ES is Xehanort, he looks like him, so maybe in KH3 he'll be the result of Sora defeating his heartless and then nobody.

So does that mean Sora has liberated all the Org. members? Meaning he broke the Heartless curse.

I told you guys that nobodies weren't dead.

Planet Earth, where else? :P
I think the ES is Xehanort, he looks like him, so maybe in KH3 he'll be the result of Sora defeating his heartless and then nobody.

Numora clearly stated that the three knights are different characters, NEW characters. And since Xehanort is the main antagonist, I don't think the ES is him. Maybe a friend that was betrayed or they're related. Since in FM+, Sora fights the ES and he after tells his hatred for Xehanort (I doubt Xehanort would hate himself)...

Since Xehanort willingly split himself in to two (heartless & nobody), Xehanort, in a way, is lost in the depths of the darkness, or dead.. But since his heartless (ansem) was destroyed first and then his nobody (Xemnas) was destroyed second, the body, soul, and heart will come together again into the original, Xehanort.. So I believe Xehanort is out there somewhere.. Which could be the big boss in the third installment..:

I did write about that:

Puck> He might have liberated them all in Nobody forms, but who knows whether their Heartless are defeated as well. If their heartless are still around as per Nomura, they will be suspended in nothingness... for a long while.

EtherealEclipse> Yup, it seems our director has explained a very crucial thing about Xehanort in the Secret Report. He's hinting at the return of the "full" Xehanort...
