help with GIF file (animation)

um, i made an avatar that flashes. ( i know very annoying to some of you )
but it won't let it upload as an animation, it only shows one layer of the color when it's supposed to be flashing.
i saved it as a GIF and it uploaded the animation, but doesn't... animate.
so i was wondering if there was a special way to upload GIF files on here.

Did you save it as a static gif file or an animated gif file?

I don't know, I used to use Flash whenever I made animations. There's an area where you specify how you want to save each file, and you have to select Animated.

i think i know how to do it now, because when you save it for photoshop you go to save for web/devices...
and there may be an animation saving option.
