There was an old thread about this, but it's dead and was really only about SAC...

Just for the record, "Ghost in the Shell" incorporates

the manga Ghost in the Shell, written and drawn Masamune Shirow

the movies Ghost in the Shell and Ghost in the Shell 2 Innocence, written by Masamune in the case of the first movie, second movie was written and directed by Mamoru Oshii

the TV series Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex: 1st GIG and 2nd GIG, produced by production I.G. and supposedly written by Masamune, at least in the case of 1st GIG. Oshii was heavily involved in the production of 2nd GIG.

I am two episodes away from the ending of 2nd GIG, and have just re-watched the first movie and re-read the manga.
So, anyone up for a discussion regarding the varying personalities of Kusanagi Motoko in the different media incarnations of GitS?

The first movie is fantastic, a testament to its time- the cell animation, the sound effects, everything. As I loathe modern computerized animation, I find it to be absolutely beautiful. It is far, far from as deep and philosophical as people seem to think it is, though. As for the Major, she probably deviates most from the norm in the first movie- she is not as dark and brooding and generally suppressed in neither the manga or SAC.

Also, Togusa wins. Or rather, Togusa and Batou win.

EDIT: In other news, SAC: 1st GIG is the worst thing that ever happened to GitS.

Ever.

Read the manga, watch the first movie, watch 2nd GIG, then you can hate it with me. Like one big, happy, hating family.

1st GiG was ok, i just liked the last few episodes more. killing people = XD!!!! ans i laughed when Kusanagi got shot in the head when boarding the jet.

Well im lazy in saying her name so im just going to call her major and ive seen the first movie but the second one i got was in japanese i couldnt even read it but the anime is great and i love the theme inner universe.
