Prologue

A brown haired boy could be seen standing at the end of an empty street. He was gazing off into the sky, watching as streams of light fell from the sky. He looked down around at his friends. They were pointing to the sky above the boy, looks of worry plastered on their faces.

The boy looked up. There was a figure falling towards him. This was not just anybody that was falling from the sky, it was himself. He opened his mouth to yell but no words could be heard. The shadow of his body fell upon him.

The bodies collided.

He was now falling through darkness. He couldn’t think, he couldn’t breathe, he couldn’t move. He felt as though he was being squeezed by an invisible force. Just as soon as it had all happened his falling body began to slow and his movement was once again obtained.

He leveled himself and landed firmly on his feet. He opened his eyes and looked around. Nothing. He began to rise from the ground flew off into the dark nothing.

The boy quickly lifted his arms covering his face from the onslaught of these flying creatures. The sound of a thousand wings flapping filled his ears. Within seconds the birds were gone and it was once again, quiet. He lowered his arms and opened his eyes.

He looked down at the ground. He was now standing on a glowing circular stained-glass like platform. He tilted his head to the side and looked down at the images inscribed on the platform. There was a brown haired boy. He was holding in his hand what looked like a large key.

He lifted his head and stepped forward. There was a slight rumble and a pathway appeared at the end of the platform. Confused the boy walked to the pathway. As he stepped onto it he noticed it too seemed to be made out of stained-glass. He followed the colorful glass pathway up.

He stepped off of it.

He was now standing on another circular, stained-glass platform. The only thing different was the image engraved on it. It was now a large crown. He walked towards the center and stopped. There was a sudden shaking and he stumbled. Three miniature platforms rose above him. One each of these platforms and item appeared.

A Staff. A Sword. And a Shield.

He stared at the weapons for a moment more confused than ever. What was going on? Walked up to the platforms and looked closely at each item. The staff was blue and had a large circle on the top with two smaller circles on top. He walked up to the sword. It looked ordinary, it too had the three circles on it. Finally he made his way to the shield. It was red and also had the silhouette of the three circles.

“What are these for?” He thought to himself.

A voice could be heard. Not from somewhere around him, but within his head. “Step forth,” it said. “Pick one. The decision is up to you.” The boy scratched the back of his head. He looked at each weapon carefully. After a couple seconds of thinking it over he had decided.

He walked up to the sword and grabbed it by it’s handle.

He stepped back and smiled. He knew he’d made the right decision. He watched as the staff and shield disappeared and the platforms lowered back into the ground. Now what? He looked around. He stepped forward but quickly stopped as he saw four pools of blackness appeared around his feet.

The pools began to rise and take shape. They had become short black figures each with glowing yellow eyes. Fear began to rise within him. What were these things?!

The figures lashed out at the boy and he fell back dropping his sword.

He screamed, but no sound came out. He flailed his arms trying to knock the creatures off but they continued to attack. They clawed at his skin tearing into his flesh. Finally he was able to kicked them off and he scrambled for the sword.

He grabbed it and hurried to his feet. He ran forward and lashed out with the sword cutting the heads off of two of the creatures. They exploded in a cloud of black mist, a single glowing heart emitting from each and rising into the air only to disappear as soon as they had appeared.

He clenched the handle of the sword and stared into the eyes of the two creatures that were left. He would let fear overcome him. He would win this fight. He ran for the creatures, readying his sword. He ran towards the one on his left and jumped into the air.

As he came down upon the creature he drove his sword through its head and down its body cutting it completely in half. It too exploded and released a glowing heart. He quickly turned and brought his eyes to his final opponent. He ran forward and swung his sword making contact with the dark figure.

He stopped and turned and watched as the creature began to twitch and shake and soon explode. He slowly lifted his head, watching the heart it had released disappear. He turned his head to see a large beam of light coming from the center of the platform.

He walked forth towards the pillar of light. Once again he heard that voice within his head. “The more light there is…the greater your shadow becomes.” As he stepped into the light his shadow appeared. Suddenly it began to move. It began to stretch and grow. The pillar of light faded away and his shadow began to rise. It soon lifted high into the air and took the shape of a giant black figure with glowing yellow eyes.

It large hole in his chest shaped like a heart. He looked up at the figure, the fear once again growing within him. He knew he didn’t stand a chance, he would be killed within seconds. He ran to the edge of the platform but stopped almost falling over the edge. He looked down. Nothing. He stepped back and turned back to the large figure. I must fight. He thought to himself.

The massive figure plunged its hand into the ground, a pool or purple and black forming on the ground around it. Without any reasoning he ran forward and attacked it’s hand. The creature flinched and flung it’s hand out of the ground and up into the air. He quickly grabbed hold of it’s large finger and was lifted into the air.

He jumped from it’s hand and plunged his sword into the forehead of the creature. It began to scream and swung its arms around madly. It hit the boy slamming him down onto the ground. Ow! That hurt. He thought. He opened his eyes and watched as the tall figured came crashing down onto the platform. It began to melt back into a pool of darkness. But instead of disappearing like the smaller figures had, it grew. Soon the entire platform was covered in darkness.

The boy swung his arms in terror as the darkness engulfed his body. It can’t end like this, he thought. It just couldn’t! He opened his mouth to scream, but still nothing came out. Soon the darkness was up to his neck. Soon he would be gone.

“NO!!!”

The brown haired boy sat up quickly in his bed, his hair soaked from sweat. He was breathing heavily. He ripped off his blanket and grabbed his legs to make sure they were there. “It…it was just, a dream?”

He turned his head and stared out of his window. The sun was rising, signifying the start of a new day.

More to be posted later. This was just the prologue. I'm working on the first chapter. Hope you enjoy. C&C please.
