I think it was because he was so helpless against the heartless that he changed his name so he wouldnt have to live with his being weak. i dont know thats just a theory of miine. and the reason why he said he would change it back when he got to HB was because he would be strong enough to help defeat the heartless and live up to his original name. lol its just a theory so its probably totally wrong. lol

i think leon said this it's not eh exact words but i was sure he meant this:
"squall is the name of the man who couldn't save his own home, he has a debt to pay"
I kinda changed some words around XD but i recall it somewhere....somewhere
but this probably means he didnt like the thought of being that 'man' (even though its himself) so he rather "be someone else" (makes sense? X_X)
