In Disney’s Hercules, the title character has to be a true hero to regain his status as a Greek god. Does this apply to the other gods? If so, what heroic deed did Hades do to gain his title of lord of the underworld? Was trapping the titans Zeus’ proof of being a true hero?

No cuz they were born gods. It's like a citizenship test: a foreigner applying for US citizenship pretty much has to know more about America than the average dimwit american who gets to be an official citizen purely on the merits their parents boned on US soil 9 months prior.
