...ALRIGHT. First and foremost: this chapter is nowhere NEAR perfect. And I couldn't really get criticism on it... so I'm winging it and just posting it up here to see what happens. But, yeahhhhhh this is another 'fanfic' project of mine, though it's only original with a possible canon character cameo. And, if we're talking about ghosts, you know I mean Danny Phantom. xD;
And, just to clear up something: this story takes place in 2013 in Brooklyn in New York City. Everyone's mainly going to be at high school and if you can guess who the high school is named after, I'll give you a cookie!
STORY TIME! W00T.

Chapter 001: Nothing Here Is Normal
What would happen if you opened your eyes one day and found yourself upside down, along with the rest of the world?
My name is Krysten Everwood, but that's too fancy. Just call me Kris.
For as long as I could remember, I've been able to see ghosts, they've been able to see me, and I've actually made friends with them. When I come home from that stupid prison they call a 'school', there's always a ghost hanging around the house who's probably one of my best friends! After all, ghosts are my real friends, not the jerks hanging around in that prison.
Anyways... well, things have been changing lately. Suddenly, all of the ghosts floating around my house have disappeared, my parents think I'm nuts, and it's not strange to see someone screaming in the middle of the street. What is going on in this place...?
----
"I'm serious!"
The dirty blonde teenager only rolled his eyes.
"Sure, Kris. Suuuuuure."
The tomboy sitting across from him suddenly stood up from her seat, hands flat on the table and a flame flickering in her eyes.
"How could you not believe me!?"
"Well, the whole 'zomg-i'm-upside-down!' thing sounds kinda strange to me..."
Kris took her seat once more, a pout formed on her face, as people inside the cafeteria begun to stare at the strange girl. How could they not? Not only was she screaming about the strangest and most realistic dream she's had, but she was jumping from her seat and shouting at Chase! That definitely got her some weird glances, forcing her to return to her seat on the bench to keep from being mocked even more.
"Whatever." Kris said, throwing out her counterattack with her hand resting on top of her chin, "I know what I saw had to be real. Kinda that feeling you get..."
"Good for you," Chase replied through a mouth full of corn dog, "So, what's up with those... uhhh..."
Kris' voice became low as she leaned in closer to Chase across the table, who was doing the same.
"The ghosts?"
"Yeah, them."
The brown-haired tomboy leaned backwards to sit up straight, playing with a small spike hanging in front of her face in a bored manner.
"I still haven't seen any of them... I hope they're alright..."
"How could they not be? They're... you know! I think they'll be alright."
Kris let out a small groan of frustration and her voice lowered to a whisper, "You don't get it! It has something to do with all those people screaming all the time! I see them, you know. But, they're different... they just look like red clouds around those people! And--"
"Excuse me," a timid voice added in. The two friends both turned their heads in unison to spot a young girl , one who looked a tad bit Asian and was no longer than 14, with long, straight, absolutely perfect black hair and a rather different outfit (Well, different from those stupid outfits all the preps, cheerleaders, and everyone else from the 'girl community', excluding Kris, at the high school): a light blue, sleeveless t-shirt, a long black shirt that went way past her knees, and a pair of tan sandals. She looked too simplistic to be normal... A pair of emerald green eyes glimmered timidly underneath her perfectly straight bangs as she sat next to the brown haired tomboy with spiked hair.
"What are you talking about?" the girl quietly questioned as she pushed a strand of hair behind her ear.
"Is that really any of your business?" Kris rudely threw in, a glare gleaming from her blue eyes.
'This girl is way too--'
"Ahh!"
The Asian-ish girl was now right in her face, tilting her head side-to-side and glazing into the tomboy's blue eyes.
"Oh... so it's those eyes..."
"PERSONAL SPACE IS A WONDERFUL THING!" Kris screamed, pushing the black-haired girl away. But, her little 'fit', if you could even call it that, wasn't easily ignored by the rest of the students. Suddenly, all eyes were on the outcast and many giggles escaped several mouths within the large room.
"...Oops."
------
Black skater shoes slid across the ground. A pair of blue pants, with zippers running up and down, that looked like they came from Hot Topic waved as the tomboy walked. A black t-shirt that read the words 'SCREW OFF' in white became wrinkled under the heavy black bag that she carried, the strap connecting to the bag going across her chest. In the midst of it all was a wristband with the skull of the pumpkin king printed on it, a pair of behind-the-head headphones connecting to a black iPod, and a case shaped to hold a violin.
Who was the tomboy with the brown spiked hair that fell over her right eye, one of the pair that were a bright blue colour? It was none other than Kris, who was now the new laughing stock of Parker High School.
"Hey, wait up!"
And, that medium-high pitched voice coming from behind? It was the dirty blonde haired boy known as Chase.
He slid to a stop next to the tomboy, who's mouth formed into that normal pout she wore on her pale face.
"What?" the girl spat, flames flickering in her blue eyes. "Come to laugh at me some more, blonde?"
With that sort of tone, that mean Kris was in an incredibly foul mood. Chase would definitely have to be careful, or he would risk having something bitten off.
"Sorry that happened... I dunno what's up with people these days..."
"Uh-huh. That's nice. If you're going to say sorry, then at least give me some dignity back." And then, she stomped off.
"HEY!" Chase screamed, running after the girl once more and finally just grabbing her shoulders to force her to look at him. "You seriously shouldn't care about that, of all things! Just give it a day or two and people will be laughing about something stupid like... American Idol or something..."
"I doubt they're going to be laughing about something like that. Look."
The tomboy pointed off to the side, her index finger pointing straight at a figure who was standing near by. It was none other than the strange Asian girl from before.
"Hello," she simply said in that quiet tone, much like before. Kris could only growl at that small smile planted on her face.
"What'd you want now!?" Kris growled as Chase made sure to back off from his friend.
"I just wanted to apologize. I'm not too used to this... realm..."
"Realm? What're you even prattling on abo--"
"But I've come to give you a warning." The girl suddenly pointed up to the usual, grey sky to show an odd sight.
Suddenly, with an unexpected boom of thunder, strange red 'clouds' began to swim through the air in unison, going after anyone and everyone except the three people standing all together in that one spot.
The sounds of screams roared in front of the school. The loud, unorganized march of feet echoed across the concrete sidewalk. Yet, the sounds were only muffled by the loud sound of their hearts beating wildly.
Kris glanced upwards towards the sky, staring in horror from the madness breaking out in front of them to the strange sight above.
"...I was right, Chase."
Chase glanced up as well and was met with an odd sight: tall buildings upside down in the sky that were almost like a reflection of the city below.
"...You have a world to save," the girl had opened her mouth once more.
"But how'd I do-- AHHH!!"
Her hair was turning white, her eyes were turning green, and it was all thanks to the strange girl's hand that sent a green shockwave through the tomboy.
And, just to clear up something: this story takes place in 2013 in Brooklyn in New York City. Everyone's mainly going to be at high school and if you can guess who the high school is named after, I'll give you a cookie!
