The iconic keyblade found in KH3's trailer; surely it will be integral to the final chapter of the SoD Chronicles.

Originally belonging to Eraqus, Master Keeper is a special keyblade with ties to LoD. As a defense mechanism against the forces of darkness, this keyblade can transform LoD in CO, thus creating the Chamber of Waking. However, only Aqua can find the CoW, probably because she has Master Keeper.

Keep in mind that keyblades of heart only existed as a result of the universe's reorganization. The Keyblade of Peoples' Heart, the only known keyblade of heart, came into existence as the key to unlocking the DtD. Not only does it release the human heart to darkness, but it also releases the RoL to darkness. If the category of "keyblade of heart" can be interpreted as a medium between light and darkness, perhaps there exists a reciprocal?

A reciprocal such as Master Keeper.

LoD is a world that's supposedly significant to the balance between light and darkness. If darkness were close to overcoming it, MK would be used as a failsafe to prevent that. Not to mention, it continued to exist after Eraqus' death, so its continuous existence could be seen as an opposite to the KoPH's lack of continuous existence.

Whereas the KoPH exists to help drown the universe in darkness, MK would exist the keep the light shining.

The Keyblades that hold the Universe together, or the Keyblades to tear it apart. I believe this could be that medium. That, or since its the key, there can be more than one way to keep it "alive". It might be a Keyblade only accessible to Masters of the Keyblade, or its only still around until it's purpose is fulfilled.

This makes a lot of sense, and while it could very well be nothing, I noticed that Sora's physical motions as he picked up and examined the MK in the trailer were similar to the scene in KH1 when he used the Keyblade of Peoples' Hearts to release Kairi's Heart from within himself.

Again, it could easily mean nothing since Sora was just doing the same thing in both scenes (picking up a Keyblade and examining it), which would kinda obviously result in visual similarities. However, it could be a symbolic hint. IDK. xD

I like to think it'll always be around, but it can only fulfill its purpose so long as there's someone willing enough to pick it up and take that responsibility. From that perspective, this keyblade and any wielder would be sharing the same goal: Protecting the light.

From Eraqus to Aqua...and from Aqua to Sora?

This is surprisingly good. If I had to guess, it'd be yet another use of parallelism of the same idea: Sora coming to accept that, even if it'll cost him a lot, there are people out there that need him and that he can't let down. Then he takes one last look at the people who make him strong.

Judging by the translations from the new Famitsu article, I think the Master Keeper is the "Key to Return Hearts".

Good theory and it makes a lot of sense and it always stuck out to me that the Masters Keeper never vanished when Eraqus vanished. Of course we see from the very battlefield of the Keyblade Graveyard that keyblades seem to exist past their masters but as MX put it their lifeless (possibly the reason they lack keychains) where as the Masters Keeper seems to work and behave perfectly fine.

It also fits perfect into kh's parallels, for every light a shadow and for a key that can bring about great darkness there's one that can defend the light.
