Why bother freeing Tibet? Most of the population there are Han Chinese or Sinicized Tibetans so there is really no impetus within the region to declare independence from the People's Republic of China.
Because the Tibetans who aren't Chinese immigrants are still abused heavily by the PRC. Hence the, you know, 50 years of protest.
Well, maybe they shouldn't have declared independence?? That, or they should have fought back, when China invaded.
It has not happened in Tibet so there will not be much support at all from the Tibetans, who are generally at least given better living conditions that they were before those monks and the Dali Lama ruled the region.
Starting with the Great Leap Forward roughly 43 million people have died in Tibet because of China fucking with their food supply, and roughly 20 Tibetans disappear per month because of 'aggression against the Chinese government' in the form of peaceful protest.
That's not exactly an improved lifestyle.

I could pull the same agruement for Native Americans in the United States especially since they were oppressed and still are to a degree.
There is the other side of the coin to Chinese rule of Tibet just like there is with American rule over the Native American tribes that once roamed.
Yeah, except now Native Americans that attempt to make a lives for themselves can most definitely do so. If you're talking about them being oppressed on reservations, hell, it's their choice to live there instead of going out and getting real jobs/houses. Not really the same situation at all. If you're talking about the whole Trail of Tears thing, that was in the past and we've since done all we can, probably more than we should have, to compensate.
it is difficult when you do not have the same opporunities as your average Mr. Smith or Ms. Jones.
Americans could had at least honored the various treaties they made with the native American tribes instead of backstabbing them in the end.
Native Americans are still in horrid conditions in the USA in general and it is difficult when you do not have the same opporunities as your average Mr. Smith or Ms. Jones.
Tell that to the native americans pulling huge salaries running all the casinos around the country.
Unfortunately, Tibet will probably never be free, unless China crumbles and splits up into separate nations. And it has already shed its skin of communism to become a capitalist society, which is arguably even worse, but less chaotic.
