Kingdom Hearts 2.9 Listed on LinkedIn Profile & Possible New Kingdom Hearts 3 Information

It has been discovered on the LinkedIn profile of a Square Enix staff member currently working in Osaka, Japan that there may possibly be a title called Kingdom Hearts 2.9 currently in the works for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. On their profile, it also mentions their work on Kingdom Hearts 3 where they serve mainly as the main scenario planner for two worlds in the game and also have various other jobs related to the game.
Their portfolio website also lists Kingdom Hearts 3 as one of their current projects as well.
It should be noted that this is not the first time Kingdom Hearts 2.9 has been seen before, as it was shown on Square Enix Presents' E3 2015 schedule right on the showroom floor, but was later removed and the mysterious title remained unmentioned during the event. The staff member's profile also shows that there may be Pixar worlds, Gummi Ships, and a multiplayer mode in Kingdom Hearts 3.

So, I'm assuming that this "KH 2.9" is separate from "KH ?". It could be a DDD remaster with Attraction Flow that will be released with KH3 Final Mix or something like that. I don't know. there's not enough to go off here. Who knows, maybe it could be something no one even thought of.
Or maybe it was something of a tech demo for III. Or an actual demo that people will be able to play.

maybe or maybe not but the best place to annouced it in my opion is the kingdom hearts fan event in november however we n't know yet and maybe this is the plan he was talking about some way to indrouced kh to newcomers who hasn't played the remixes yet and want to jump in kh and play it

I first thought that the KH2.9 thing at E3 was some sort of joke. Now that is has appeared again, this might be something really interesting. Oh man, if we would get a port collection that has 1.5 + 2.5 + DDD HD, I would be happy man. Some sort of KHIII demo would also be awesome, but I don`t think that is gonna happen.

I'm kinda mixed about this. This could be a good thing for those that don't have access to a PS3, but on the other paw, I'm not sure if I want to buy these collections again without something major with it. Especially since I tracked down a new copy of Dream Drop Distance. But we'll see.
I admit as it is I'm saving up for my own PS3 so I can give brother's back (we do have quite a few PS3 games in the house) but that's another story..

i'm hoping for file transfer. playing through the games again would make my head hurt and i'd probably ignore them for two years and play ddd hd until my backlog is emptied.

In the very least, "two-point-nine" would be less of a clusterdiddly title than "three-hundred fifty-eight days over two". It took me the longest time to learn that it wasn't "three-hundred fifty-eight divided by two days."

Well, this is exciting stuff. And I'm so, so hyped right now, because as much as I love the Remixes... Well, a part of me's somewhat sad that we haven't gotten any new story content in years (not counting Chi), so this might be just what the doctor ordered for me, personally--whether something new be coming in the form of BbSV2 or a more likely KHIII demo.
Also, if KH3D is to be remade for this, I really hope that NPCs are included. I want to be able to go back to Traverse Town in between the two visits and talk to the TWEWY kids there, dangit!:D
Edit: OMG., TinyZo, I agree with you on that completely! Square should totes do that. Though they might have to ask KHInsider for permission on it, seeing as how they originally did it first. (Kidding.) But wouldn't it be awesome if they did call it "<3", and actually ended up mentioning how they saw a fansite do it as a joke many years beforehand? It would make my life, personally:)

And that's why they really shouldn't release KH 3 on XBone. There was no KH game so far, which means potential players will no literally NOTHING about the Storyline.

SE should honestly consider finding a way to do remixes for XB01 owners so that way they won't feel left out of the story once KH3 gets released.

I could easily get behind this all, tbh. Especially in that I don't think I'm going to be able to play Unchained Chi on a tablet or phone when it does come out (and so it for consoles really would really be the best thing for me), but we'll see what happens, I guess^^
Edit: And I'm also hoping that the Remixes will find their way onto X-Box somehow. I'd feel so bad for the poor souls who will try to get into KH for the first time through KHIII, otherwise.

I think you misread what I said.
PS3 gets DDD HD Remix ONLY, whereas PS4's version of 2.9 gets 1.5, 2.5 and whatever 2.9 is as well. That way all players on both consoles will be happy :)

If they ever decide to release both 1.5 and 2.5 on PS4, I sincerely hope trophies are shared with the PS3 versions. No way I'll have the will to re-obtain the most difficult ones!

I'm doubtful but also hopeful this will turn up at TGS. This seems like the kind of thing they will do at D23 much like they did with 2.5s announcement which was cool but not much of a surprise like this I guess will be!

Another thing to consider, at last years TGS (which in my opinion was the most interesting one in years) saw Square announce the worldwide release of the Episode Duscae demo for FFXV which was huge at the time. And that is considering that by the time the actual game releases, Duscae would have been out for a year and a half so it is not out of the question that the same announcement with similar packaging with another KH collection might happen because KH3 certainly isn't coming out for another year and a half most likely (hopefully not *pours the salt all over face*)

Well, it doesn't help that Nomura never seems to acknowledge the XB1 when discussing KH3. We've seen KH3 associated with PS4 much more, both by Sony and by Square Enix. xD
Not so much of a surprise, considering they said some time ago they were testing moving it over to consoles but for it to be a full-blown department project is certainly something. I'm expecting it to be like Type 0 with a demo if it's coming, but it's odd that it's been so long in development without a clear confirmation. I've still got weird feelings about it.

Well, maybe I can hope for NX support. I'm was really hoping for not having to buy every console yet again this gen but Nintendo will force my hand, They always do.
Not so much of a surprise, considering they said some time ago they were testing moving it over to consoles but for it to be a full-blown department project is certainly something. I'm expecting it to be like Type 0 with a demo if it's coming, but it's odd that it's been so long in development without a clear confirmation. I've still got weird feelings about it.
Maybe they have had to redevelop parts of DDD if that is what's coming....? I've never played DDD but I don't know easy it would be transfer game mechanics over to Sony.

Pretty much. I don't know how closely he's collaborating with Disney Interactive and Square for III, but either way his support will go a long way... ideally, a way that involves better voice direction than what constitutes the average for the series.

It wouldn't be that costly. If the NX can support DirectX 11 or whatever it is now, then the porting would be relatively simple. After all that's how they are developing KH3. They are making it for DirectX and then porting it to consoles with that framework (PS4, XBone, possibly even PC down the line). So if the NX supports it, it wouldn't bethat costly to port.
I'm not really sure what to think of this myself. I feel like the title KH2.9 suggests it has to have more than just Dream Drop Distance in it (after all, why not just call it KH re:3D or whatever). But, what else would really be included? I see some people suggesting X/UX stuff, but that seems silly with the game coming out brand new this year+? I could see what some are suggesting with a KH3 Demo, but I don't think that alone would warrant the 2.9 over just re:DDD. Hmmmm. Weird. It'll be interesting to see what it becomes being. I hope it isn't all the collections put together plus KH3D (I feel like a better title could have been come up with for one thing? for the other, kinda bones the people who already bought 1.5 and 2.5 to buy it again just to get DDD).

what if they are releasing it on PS3 and PS4 because it isn't a game. what if its the method for bridging the gap for people who will be just picking up KH3 or haven't played anything but the numbered titles. What if its a collection of videos and cutscenes for each game. I would buy that. and make an extended ending for DDD on it to tie in closer to KH3. that way it isn't really buying the same games again, its more of a way to conveniently catch up on the story by watching a game a night. make them a few hours each. if re:Coded was a 3 hour movie, imagine how long 1, com, 2, bbs, ddd would be. It would certainly give the 2.9 vibe of leading up to KH3, it wouldn't take all the resources of full fledged remakes, and it would make it more accessible to the people who still have a PS3 or who upgraded a while ago to the PS4. On the subject at hand, I think I'm on the fence for the time being; it certainly piques my interest, but I won't go throwing it around like it's a genuine confirmation unless there is indeed one. Nomura did say that he didn't want to release DDD as a standalone remaster cause he doesn't think there'll be enough interest in that game alone, which is why I assume that 2.9 would have all of the games. But it could always go the FF Type 0 route and be DDD with something KH3 included as a Day One type thing.
It could also be revealed at the November event, like how 2.5 was revealed at D23 2013.

If this 2.9 is a truly a thing, I'd assume that it is the KH game for the year 2016 and includes the DDD HD Remaster, possibly something regarding χ depending on how far it got storywise by the time of 2.9s release and to round it up something regarding BBSv2.
Including 1.5 and 2.5 as well might be a bonus but I doubt that there will be anything substantial of KH III itself...maybe some teasers in the credits of the new DDD HD like the other Remasters always teased the next entry in the timeline.
Then in early 2017 they might release a KH III demo with the game itself releasing in late 2017.

A majority of players probably does not want the rusted old PS2-graphics on the PS4, especially not since mouths have already been wetted by the KH III gametrailers so far.

I actually think that may have been a game that was originally intended for PlayStation 3, however, they moved it to PlayStation 4. My idea is that it is a Kingdom Hearts 3D HD Remaster with a Kingdom Hearts III demo, as apparently, the PS3 cannot handle the Unreal Engine 4...

Well, you can't really "say goodbye" to something that was never really even hinted to be already a thing.
We have absolutely no indication that KH III is likely to be a 2016 release except some uninformed websites who are using articles claiming as such for clickbait.
All we do know from official sources is that KH III is progressing well and that they have an internal release window set for the project, which does not have anything to do with an actual market release.

A PSP is actually the only other handheld I own besides the 3DS, and I bought that one originally mainly for FF-games like FF: Crisis Core, the FF I and II "Remasters" and Dissidia: Final Fantasy, which was long before BBS was even a thing.

But if it gets announced it will most likely be a Dream Drop Distance remake with new features like Attraction Flow to show us how it will be in KH3 including either a console version of Unchained χ or 1.5, 2.5, DDD HD and Unchained χ. I dont think that they would include a KH3 Demo on a PS3 game because that would mean KH3 will also release for PS3 otherwise there would be no point giving PS3 users a KH3 demo.
I looked at the games he's worked on and found him in the credits. Unless he likes committing careers suicide by lying about the projects he worked/is working on, then it is safe to say he isn't lying. LinkedIn is used to find jobs and connect with people in the same field as you. Nobody goes on there lying about their work. There is no point in doing so.

I kinda want 2.9 to be DDD HD Remaster (maybe including Final Mix contents, but if it's not I wouldn't disappointed) + video cutscenes of KH Unchained X containing the important main story with remade graphic similar to other KH titles in common (e.g KH 1, 2, BBS, DDD) with Ephemera and Chirithy as main characters and The Foretellers as suppporting characters for about 25 to 30 minutes long.

@chaser + sephiroth0812 i got a psp just for bbs (the entertainment pack truthfully). ended up playing crisis core, dissidia and ff7 on it. i got my 3ds, and the circle pad pro exclusively for ddd because i'm a real executive thinker lol. i did play theaterhythm and a few other games i can't remember tho so it's all good.

depends on the team developing it. osaka is in charge of III so i assume another division could take over when they aren't giving some assistance on square's two most anticipated games.

i'm all for mission mode, an overhauled mirage arena or a raid mode, as i've said often before. procedurally generated dungeon that looks like different worlds stitched together, and fight some original boss or something from chi or ddd even. it would be awesome.

That is a hypothetical question we can't answer since we neither know how many staff are on each project, how their planned schedule is, what 2.9 even is, and how long each project has been in development.

I'm guessing 2.9 will include Dream Drop Distance HD Final Mix + some form of BBS: Vol 2 as a prologue to III for the PS3 version; PS4 version also including ports of 1.5 and 2.5 and a downloadable demo. Might include a Chi movie, but that depends on whether Square/Nomura is generous enough to include one or really just want you to play Chi. Included in the game select menu is a "Yen Sid's Report" that provides information previously exclusive to Nomura interviews and a basic overview of the many characters, enemies, etc. found in the games.
From the name given, I'm assuming this is basically Square's giving series newcomers with a PS4 a place to enjoy everything the series thus far has to offer in one place before Kingdom Hearts III; with the PS3 version providing finishing the job 1.5 and 2.5 started on the system. It's really generous, but if it's mostly just a porting job it shouldn't be horribly resource-intensive.

The info on how the heck Kairi was already in a run, coming from behind that one shackon Destiny Islands, right before she came to wake Sora up on that beach. Nope, not at all. I would love the whole series on PS4, but I'm okay if the ReMIX's stay on PS3 mainly because I plan to play through the entire series again, including watching all the secret endings and so forth, prior to KH3's release and I already have everything unlocked on my PS3 copies. Whereas on any potential PS4 versions, unless they include a file transfer, I'd have to jump between consoles just to watch the secret endings (cause I intend to play every game on Beginner, to make it laid back).

So if the Kh3 stuff he says he worked on is true then that means.... YES GUMMI SHIPS TO RETURN! Now I know a lot of people hate them.. I myself found them to be such a chore to do and just want to go to the world. However, it is a kh1 and kh2 thing, so being tradition I am extremely happy that they will be coming back! Annoying or not I will take anything if it's tradition because kh2 was perfect!

Given the mention of Attraction Flow in 2.9, my guess is that it's one of several things.
- Some sort of mini prequel teaser for KH3 + DDD HD (so as not to make it a Ground Zeroes game with just a glorified demo on the disc)
- DDD Final Mix, with Attraction Flow added as one of the new features
- 1.5, 2.5, DDD HD, and previously stated KH3 teaser thingy
That mention of Attraction Flow really throws a wrench into the whole "It's 1.5, 2.5, and DDD" thing, because none of those games have Attraction Flow. Unless they added it in to DDD or are including a new teaser in along with the entire series, I really have no idea what this could be.
Assuming, of course, that it's real and all of us haven't been rused so far down the rabbit hole that we'll be fucking pissed if this all turns out to be fake.

However, a cutscene collection is probably 100% out of the picture, since the story isn't even finished yet. There would be no point. Say 2.9 released this month with a cutscene collection for χ[chi]. There would be nothing substantial, only many questions and no few answers. I have a feeling that χ[chi] will keep going up until the release of KHIII (akin to how coded finished as BbS released, when it tied into BbS).

Hmmm, anyone else thinking that, if it is indeed a new game, it may possibly be Kairi-centric? Or at least has a bigger focus on Kairi this time around
The ending of DDD shows Kairi about to undergo keyblade training under Yen Sid. And if Kairi is a Guardian of Light (which Im 99.9% certain she is) she'll need time to develop enough skills to fight effectively, yes? So perhaps 2.9 will be showcasing the events RIGHT before 3 (2.9 being preeeety close to the number 3. Also makes sense since they dont have a lot of time, and the number is indicative of that.). And part of those events will have a section for Kairi? Playable or otherwise?
That and the fact that surely Nomura and the KH team isn't blind to all the complaints and wishes of fans to have Kairi develop and/or be able to play as her.
To be honest, I'm not very confident in my guess. I'm on board with Spockanort in that it's KH 1.5 + 2.5 +DDD HD + KH3 Prologue. But for some reason there's this little inkling of hope that they're actually going to do something with Kairi for once, that I cant help but theorize the above. God, Im desperate for some Kairivelopment.

If there were any new playable episodes added to DDD, I think we'd be playing as Sora. His playthrough got a bit of a short stick anyway, since Riku got a significantly longer endgame.
And even if we did get to play as Kairi, there's no way they'd effectively create an entirely new game's worth of content for her (not to mention that chances are Traverse Town is the only Sleeping World left after Sora unlocked the Sleeping Keyholes). That's just too much work for what would ostensibly be a rerelease.
Besides, Lea was trained using a hyperbolic time chamber (so he can catch up), I don't see any reason why Kairi wouldn't be the same.

I could just see them doing a Final Mix for this game to make it worth-while as a rerelease on the PS3 and PS4. Honestly I will be disappointed if 2.9 isn't DDD... as it is the only KH game (apart from Chi) that I have never played. And it is the game that sets up KH3. 2.9 would fit it...
One small nit pick. the number .9 drives me nuts. I keep wanting to round it up lol. Like 3.0 or 2.5 1/2 like Lion King.

2.9 implies it is like RIGHT before 3, and we know KH3D was technically in all purposes a "2.9"-like game, but who knows maybe KH3D is more like 2.7 and 2.9 is whatever it is with its new boss and Attraction Flow stuff...

That makes sense. I know the number fits. Its just something that is a personal tick that I have. I prefer 0's 5's and even numbers. and your right 3D is kinda like a 2.7.
I'm trying not to get my hopes up for TGS since KH has had little to no presence there for the past 2 years and FFXV is going to be there getting coverage. I think it's more likely they'll announce it in November. It might be more relevant, since they'll be discussing KH3 a bunch and then be like "Speaking of 3, let's subtract 0.1 from that. They aren't going to announce an XB1 version of anything at a Japanese event to be quite honest. XB1 isn't even remotely in the peripheral vision of the Japanese market.
If a XB1 version of whatever this thing is happens, it is probably coming after the PS3/PS4 versions.

I bet it's KH2.5 but with KHDDD. It makes sense given the number and how logically speaking people need to beat DDD in order to be prepare for and understand KH3. Most likely it will come out for PS3 and PS4 and possibly have some sort of demo for KH3. I seriously hope Square isn't going the whole multiplayer route though. That would seriously suck especially with how bad of a history they have with games like that...or at least the Tomb Raider reboot comes to mind.
I think another possibility is that it was planned for the fan event and it could be moved up to TGS because of the leaked info. We know it's ready to be announced if the E3 pic is real so maybe they decided to wait for the right time. Maybe now that we know about it, the right time is TGS and not waiting another couple months for the fan event.
Given how they seem to save announcements for D23's, I'm thinking it's more likely we'll get the 2.9 reveal in November, which would also give them more time to announce the English release of Unchained Chi. Announcing 2.9 ahead of Unchained's release date might overshadow it, since people are already dismissing it as a "stupid phone game".
But hey, I would loooooove to be wrong. I'm totally game for 2.9 at TGS. Bring it.

They announced the English unchained X at E3. They wouldn't unveil an English localization at a conference for Japanese press so there are many reasons why that wouldn't have happened anyway. KH is getting its own event at d23. I myself think that TGS isn't kingdom hearts' event.

You know, if this was to happen, then I would question anyone getting a PS3 version. The PS4 is going to be the most definitive version with less load times, plus KH3 is coming to it so might as well have all the games on one system.

The news made me so happy! It will be so nice to play DDD on PlayStation four. I now have seven reasons to get a PS4! Which is more than enough starting games to warrant me getting one soon.
I've never played DDD so this is great. I guess this means Kingdom Hearts 3 will be out in 2017? I didn't expect any different and Final Fantasy XV is out in 2016 so that's fine. Man 2016 will be great for games just as this year has been. :biggrin:

Kingdom Hearts is a very "pics or it didn't happen" series when it comes to leaks though, since we always have to wait for Square's confirmation, since leaks often don't tell the whole story or are only partially accurate. 2.9 is a perfect example. The name was wrong as well as it being on PS3. Different name, only PS4, but still confirmed. So, now that we know that, we can deduce that the KH3 leaked info is likely accurate to a certain degree.

III has been confirmed over and over again to be the last game of this saga. The 2.8 full title only reinforces that, I think.
It's been confirmed to end the Xehanort saga, but not to be the very last game within its timeline. I'm just saying I really hope there won't be any others. They need to wrap it up and move on already.
