I think Nomura needs to sort out his priorities with his characters. He seems to focus on fan favorites, and uses it as fanservice and bait for most of the games, leaving the others on the side. I'm sure that if other members got the development Axel had, or some other form of
depth, he wouldn't have been the top of almost every poll, and the balance could be more leveled. Is the same way of what he did with the Turks in
FF7. Reno and Rude. Reno and Rude that. Reno and Rude this. There
are two others, you know? That girly blonde (who is the picture of Larxene physically as Reno is to Axel) Elena, and the hot Chinese guy, Tseng.
For a
director, that's pretty bad if he can't put a effort on characters this way. Can't blame him fully for Final Fantasy as his job is mostly creating characters, though.
For example, I think there could've been something done more with Larxene, who I got vibes of insecurity from, more so in her death. We don't even know the true reason of why Marluxia and Larxene decided on betrayal, and how they even partnered up in the first place for it. Lexaeus needs a personality, period. Vexen, I think there isn't much to be done with him, truthfully. Zexion deserves more.
People like Axel, got more screen time that could've been used to develop more of the members, and personally, I found him popping up randomly in
KH2 rather tedious. From the first moment, I found it unfair that he was
the only one to survive Castle Oblivion. At least one other could've worked. Hell, Axel even got a
new character render (the one where he looks like he's doing the invisible hula hoop, in my opinion. But I do admit, damn it, he's hot), while we have to stick with the other old ones of the Organization. Not to mention, I just feel for the
CoM members the worst of all. In the artwork we first see of the cover that Nomura did of
358/2 Days (attached with
BBS and
Coded), is only the
KH2 members. In the new scans or trailers, not a word or scene of any of those in
CoM are mentioned, or had appeared. They only get a few scenes in
CoM, and in
358/2 Days, there's no doubt that they will only appear in the beginning, and then die off. They also got thrown into a sidestory that, according to Nomura, people don't have to play to have K
H2 (what a liar, though). He redeemed himself a litte by putting
CoM in 3D from GBA sprites, with added extra flavor. A
little.
