Yakuza Kiwami is a remake of the first Yakuza game using the Yakuza 0 engine. Speaking of which, Yakuza 0 is releasing next month and is a prequel to the entire series.

Yakuza 0 includes four classic arcade games by SEGA as an added bonus. These are Super Hang-On, Fantasy Zone, OutRunner and Space Harrier. These will also be included in Yakuza 6 along with Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown.

I feel that this localisation is a result of Sega and Atlus sharing the same building for American localisation. Good on Sega, I really hope that the Yakuza franchise is profitable enough for more releases here because it's such a representation of Sega's talented game development.

And maybe also because Atlus USA actually is up to date with social media and knows what's trending etc. Just like NISA, for example. SEGA of Japan seems to have no clue what to do in the west.

Actually, the people who post on Atlus USA's social media are the exact same people that post on Sega USA's social media. Heck, the Presidnet and CEO of Atlus USA (Hiraoka Naoto) is the Senior Vice President of publishing for Sega of America.

Sega of Japan are far more intelligent than you give them credit for. Granted, they are still lacking on faith with their oriental IP's unlike Square Enix and Nintendo, however, They saved Atlus from bankruptcy and here's how they did that.

When Index Corporation (Atlus former parent company) went bankrupt because of fraudulent activities, Sega Sammy Holdings (the holding company of Sega) bought Index Corporation. In order for Sega to have direct access to everything Atlus, Sega Sammy cleverly created a Shell Corporation: a new company to absorb all the assets of Index Corporation and Atlus called Sega Dream Corporation. (think of it as moving to a new house and taking all the important stuff and leaving the rubbish behind).

By doing this, the former Index Corporation and Atlus (the company bought by Sega) was dissolved. But wait, Atlus still existed right? well technically, the former legal entity was Atlus was dissolved but the assets remained in Sega Dream Corporation. Sega Dream Corporation was then renamed to Index Corporation and was split into two. It's game development division was called Atlus and its marketing communications division remained as Index Corporation.

So basically, Atlus before the Sega buyout and Atlus after the Sega buyout are two legally different companies (as the current Atlus used to be called Sega Dream Corporation). And believe it or not, Atlus after the Sega buyout is the better version of Atlus because they have the finances from Sega Sammy and are in direct control of Sega of America.
