Xion looks a little bit like Kairi from KH1.
I kinda understand why saix was such a dick to xion though, i mean, if there was a walking talking man puppet that appeared female i'd be soo scared that i'd treat it like dog poopy too :/
xion is trap.
It's quite clearly still in the appearance of a female- it has the same lips as Xion/Namine/Kairi.
So you're telling me that Organization members who had never met Kairi or Namine still see a feminine figure projected from the clone of SORA?
Unless you're willing to accept the perverted idea that Vexen modeled the base of Sora's clone off of a female, that just doesn't add up. You'd figure she would at least appear a bit more androgynous.
Spoiler Show
The appearance was simply for the audience to see when hooded (it would be a pretty big give away if otherwise) - the actual characters in-game see no figure/nothing. They would have known it was a "girl" from the get-go. I mean, it's not like the shape could be hidden.
Well did you know Xion was a girl as soon as you saw her on the video of day 7 when Roxas first meets her
It's still pretty stupid.
How are we meant to think they are seeing an androgynous doll? Look at the dainty little feet and girly hip...
That once again begs the question if that's really what they saw, rather than what WE saw and it was too much of a hassle putting together something else to symbolize it.
That is why it is a stupid concept that they didn't pull off well.

I can be a tiny bit forgiving in that aspect because I know a bit about the basics of actually making such a game. Can't really blame them for not managing to pull this off all that well.
It can go whichever road, but they had a decision. Make Xion look like a blank, shapeless Organization coat figure despite the fact that they advertised a black haired Kairi/female, and give the audience a major clue, or let it take a girl shape and keep the mystery until the very end unaware. They probably didn't handle it well, but meh, it's 358/2 Days. What wasn't?
How about going with a less stupid concept that they could have pulled off nicely instead.... The root of the problem lies not with the technical limitations but with the scenario.
That's mixing up disdain with the execution and disdain with the concept. Even a good concept can be executed badly, it's just that here, you see a badly executed concept that you don't like on top of it so you're piling up the blame. :v
But to use it in a video game... Contrived ways for her two best friends to see her with the same face? A mess of representing her 'default'? A mess of exactly which parts of her change, eg. clothing? You can call that part execution if you want, but what do you want me to do? Give them points for 'potential'...? Sorry, I've seen what they did with all the potential this section of timeline had -__-
If you can't express a scenario concept well with the media you're working with, it's time to think of a new concept. That's where the disdain comes in.
