Darius had left home and didn’t bother looking back. He had no reason to. Sure. school was fine and the supply of females never ran out, but he had reached a stalemate in life. What did he really want to do with his life. He was getting tired of school as a whole and was getting tired of the mundane nature of his life. So when he got that strange dream offering the job and telling him about the ticket in his mail box he knew that was his answer. Well, at least a temporary answer. Who knew how long this job would be. For that matter, who knew what the job was, but if they needed him for it then it must have been something important.

At first Darius had been skeptical of the dream and what it was offering him. And then, he checked his mailbox. The tickets were just sitting there. No envelope, or return address. Just tickets. Darius smiled to himself. Of course they wouldn’t want him to know where he was going until he actually got there. Who does that?

It didn’t take him that long to tell his family bye, mostly because he stayed in an apartment about 1000 miles away from home. The benefits of being in college. Well…….he might call them when he gets to where he is going. Not really. That would be foolish on his part. He didn’t need his family worrying any more than they had to.

He didn’t bother packing. Something told him that wherever he was going a bag of clothes would not be necessary.

Las Vegas, NV 2:00 AM

Las Vegas. The city that never sleeps. He could now see that it was very true. This city never did sleep. It was 2 in the morning. What the hell were so many people doing awake? Then again…what was he doing awake at this time. Oh yeah. He had to get to room 305C in the Bellagio Hotel. Or at least that is what the “Briefing” he received on the flight to Las Vegas.

He once again consulted the manila envelope the lovely and attractive flight attendant had given him.

The only thing in there was a note. It was a personalized note that was meant for his eyes only. It said:

Darius Hyde:

You will be expected to arrive at the Bellagio Hotel at approximately one hour after your arrival. You will be expected to arrive at room 305C at 8AM sharp. Failure to do so will result in you being removed from this job. Until then your room will be 407A. You may go there or gamble your life away. We do not care. As long as you arrive at 305C at 8AM you should have no problems. Whatever you do, don’t get drunk. You will not wake up on time. And Darius, try not to freeze anything.

And that was it, no signature or anything. Oh well, he really needed to sleep. He had no tome for gambling or talking to any of the women here. Well not tonight. But tomorrow…….tomorrow was a different story. A different story indeed.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7:50 AM

Darius woke up to see that the sun was glaring down at him. And that it was 7:50. “Dammit!” Darius exclaimed quickly jumping out of bed. He didn’t sleep that well given how anxious he was for this opportunity to get some excitement out of life. He looked behind so that he could make his bed. It was a habit of his to make his bed every morning. Putting the finishing touches on the bed, Darius noticed something sticking from under his pillow. “How long has this been here?” It was a key card. Must have been for room 305C. Only one way to find out.

He quickly made his way down to room 305C stood outside and slid the key card. And the door opened to…..”An Elevator?” This was getting weirder and weirder. Stepping onto the elevator he looked around. It looked like a perfectly normal elevator. However there was a something written….no scratched is a better word for it, on the wall. “Charon” was the word and it caused a sense of dread to settle in the pit of Darius’ stomach. Charon was the ferryman for Hades and rowed people from the realm of the living to the realm of the dead. Was that what was happening here? Maybe someone was just trying to play some sick joke on those who rode this elevator..

He then turned to face the buttons….or button, he realized. There was only one button. So he pushed it. And the elevator moved down. “The underworld” He thought to himself. “Well it is what it is.” He thought to himself. He would roll with the punches.

The elevator stopped with a ding. “Like an oven” Darius thought to himself, amused. The door opened and he looked around. The first thing he noticed was the walls….they were empty. Nothing on the walls at all. Guess who ever was here didn’t really care about adding color to things. Well that was his problem, all Darius cared about was getting this job and carrying it out. The second thing he noticed was the huge table in the room. It was just sitting there with nothing on it. There were quite a few chairs surrounding the table though. Perhaps he wouldn’t be alone. And finally he noticed

“You!” Darius exclaimed shocked.

“Oh! Sup man!!! Finally made it huh. Well take a seat at the table, I’m sure the rest of the crew will be here shortly.” It was the guy from the dream. This time he was wearing a red V-neck, some more denim skinny jeans and some beach sandals. Odd choice of dress for Las Vegas.

"Odd choice for a meeting place." Darius said trying to strike up a conversation as he took a seat at the table.

The guy smiled at him. "You have no idea."

New Haven, VA morning

After packing, a few clothes, money, harmonica and the other essentials (except her wepons, apperantly you're not allowed to have them on airplanes...) she had to convince her parents, her excuse was a music festival she wanted to go to. Her parents didnt aruge, Dawn never got into trouble before, she was 17, and she did have a love of music. Having tickets that she "acquired in a contest" didnt hurt either. If they hadn't let her, she would have snuck out to go, Dawn wasnt missing a chance to meet hopefully interesting people. Besides, the only other thing she had planned to do during the summer that didnt involve music was sleep, so why not go to the city of neon lights?
-----------------------------------------------
Las Vegas, NV Sometime earlier then Dawn would like to be up.
Dawn was groggy, tired, and if the neon lights werent blinding enough, the sound waves she saw from all the hustle and bustle was finishing the job. Well, they would be if weren't for the sunglasses that came with the envelope she got on the airplane. Inside of it, other then the glasses, was a note that said,

Dawn Kingston:

You will be expected to arrive at the Bellagio Hotel at approximately one hour after your arrival. You will be expected to arrive at room 305C at 8:15AM sharp. Failure to do so will result in you being removed from this job. Until then your room will be 421A. Please refrain from gambling since you are still a minor, if you get yourself in jail, we will not help you. As long as you arrive at 305C at 8AM you should have no problems.Also don’t get drunk, as once again, you get caught you are on your own. And remeber to wake up on time. And Dawn, these sunglasses should help with your little sound light problem.

Well, Dawn had to admit, the glasses were pretty cool. Regular sunglasses didnt block off the light from sound, she always figure the sound became light in her brain so sunglasses didnt help. Maybe these were just special, and they made her look cool, so she was happy. As for the drinking and gambling, Dawn grew up around people who drunk and she vowed never to do it herself and gambling had never interested her. Instead, Dawn took another trip to dream land as soon as she got to her room.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7:30
Waking up to any alarm clock was a special experince for Dawn. For her, it was like mini fire works were bursting around her head in the same, this time blue, color (the color varied with the clocks) and it was a struggle for her to turn it off. After the fifteen minute struggle, she got dressed, ate from the mini fridge (oh the joy of knowing you don't have to pay for anything!)then went to room 305c and inserted the card. So it turned into an elevator, it's Vegas, Dawn decided to accept the werid before she even got onto the airplane.
"Oh, Charon" Dawn laughed when she pressed the button and saw the engraving, "Some one must have paid for my trip to the underworld for me"(referring to the old myth you had to pay Charon to take you to the underworld).
Dawn was grateful no corny elevator music played on the way down, it always appeared in the dullest of colors, just the usual bright pink "ding" at the end of the ride.The underworld wasn't exactly as she thought it would be, maybe she shouldn't have been expecting the disney version, but still a room devoid of color with only a really big table and chairs? Oh, and then there was dream guy and some other random guy.
"Hey look!" The dream guy said to the random guy, "Someone is already here!"
"Eh, this wasn't what I was expecting," Dawn said as she took her own seat next to the random guy,"But hey, thats life for you right?"
The dream guy smilied, "exactly."

~A Better Life?~

Kyuumi and Jax unable to sleep hopped in a taxi late that night. Her flight was to leave at one am. Jax was required to ride in luggage. He hated that. Before they boarded Kyuumi hugged him and told him not to worry. He wagged his tail and panted a bit, as to say 'ok, but I most definetly have earned a cookie, no make that two cookies'. Kyuumi smiled and he was crated and stored on the plane. Once in her seat Kyuumi was greeted by a flight attendant, who asked her if she was comfortable and when she said yes the lady handed her a milela envelope. It was stamped with a black and purple skull.

'How quaint' thought Kyuumi as she opened it.

Once open, Kyuumi began to read:

Kyuumi Necrona:

You will be expected to arrive at the Bellagio Hotel at approximately one hour after your arrival. You will be expected to arrive at room 305C at 8AM sharp. Failure to do so will result in you being removed from this job. Until then your room will be 408A. You may go there or gamble your life away. We do not care. As long as you arrive at 305C at 8AM you should have no problems. Whatever you do, don’t get drunk. You will not wake up on time. And Kyuumi, please stave the need to raise the dead.

Kyuumi shook her head. This was weird. She looked in the envelope and found two room keys, one for 408A the other for 305C.
This was for real..Kyuumi laid her head back and closed her eyes. She had a five hour flight ahead of her and she needed a little sleep.

~Touchdown~

Kyuumi awoke as the plane hit the pavement. The flight attendant had buckled her for the landing, cause she sure hadnt slept this way the entire time. She stretched a bit as the pilot's voice boomed over the intercom.

*We have arrived in Las Vegas. You may unfasten your seatbelts, and gather your carry on luggage. Please, enjoy the city and have fun.*

he made a few promotional announcements concerning the airline and addressed a flight attendant that she was looking good, not knowing that he was still on the intercom.

Kyuumi rolled her eyes. 'men' she thought, always after what they cant have. Cant live with them, and apparently you cant live without them' she thought. Rising to her feet, Kyuumi gathered her things and headed towards the exit. It was supposed to be warm so she had worn a pair of jean shorts, and a black tank top. Once off the plane and into the airport she went to baggage claim and there was Jax waiting for her. She let him out and snapped his leash on his neck. he didnt need it but it was required. Exiting the airport Kyuumi called a cab and was at the hotel in no time.

~6:35 A.M.~

Kyuumi had checked in and found her room. She had sat her stuff down and unpacked a change of clothes as well as her battle gear. Her tail had been getting her strange looks on the plane. Here in Vegas itself, she was hearing things like 'cosplay' and 'look at the detail' as people walked by. It was nice to be viewed as a anime fan and not a freak. She could deal with that. After unpacking she undressed and hopped in the shower. She needed a hot shower to wake up. Careful to avoid getting her hair wet she soaked up the warmth of the shower and wiped her face with a wash cloth. After getting out and getting dressed in a pair of skinny jeans (modified for her tail) and a purple v neck shirt. She put her battle gear in a drawstring bag she had packed and set off for room 305C. She opened the door, to reveal an elevator. Walking in with Jax at her side the doors closed. She looked for the buttons and found but one. She pressed it. Down she went. The door re-opened and there stood a plain room with a giant table. looking around Kyuumi noticed a guy and a girl she hadnt yet seen, and was it..

"It's the perv" yelped Kyuumi and Jax seemed to laugh.

He smiled at her as she walked in and sat down. She wwas a bit nervous, maybe she would just sit here and he would keep talking to that other guy and girl. Maybe...

OOC: I will post Kirie's part tomorrow. Need to get to bed I have work in about 6 hours. I hope Kyuumi's post is ok. I tried to be as detailed as I could without getting boring and too drawn out. :)

As he entered into a hazy, trance-like state on the plane, Alexander recalled his thoughts upon receiving the ticket and the unusual way in which it was obtained. His 'gift' had been mentioned, but without specificity, leading him to doubt how genuine his supposed offer was. Nonetheless, he took the ticket that was offered to him, and went online to confirm that the ticket was valid, and found an exit-row seat already booked for him, three days from now.

Alexander's belief in the quality of his "benefactor's" intelligence increased at that point, and he remember feeling a smile creep across his face at the idea that he would have the extra leg room of an exit-row sea on an intercontinental flight. Definitely not the sort of journey he could comfortably make traveling in a completely standard manner.

In this state - in which one side of his brain went into hibernation - Alexander's mind was a playground of creativity and imagination, with no reason to temper it. He let his thoughts wander infinitely, attempting to draw all sorts of fantastical explanations as to what was going on and why he had been contacted and what would be awaiting for him and so much more that made absolutely no sense.
Later on, he would alternate which cerebral hemisphere was shut off, and let the reason-based side of his brain take over and figure out which connections the creative one had made were worth exploring further.

While his mind bounced about as though in a room walled, floored and ceilinged by trampolines, a flight attendant placed a folder in the pocket in front of Alexander, which he only noticed a few hours later after having woken up, but before he entered into a reasoned trance.

Upon emergence, he was able to guess reasonably enough that his methods of research and experimentation had caught the eye of someone aware of others with special abilities. Immediately, he pondered what his neural powers could be put towards in a modern world - mostly corporate espionage, stealing of secrets for huge payments and shifts of market standings.

That as only part of the reason Alexander had gone, though. He had a free, valid ticket to Vegas, and what better place to experiment further with his powers than in a gambling setting? His experiments had always been in neutral environments where he had tried to have the subject's minds cleared and empty before beginning.

He was, tangentially, be offered free of charge the chance to exercise his powers in a totally new setting. Alexander was confident of his skills, and had enough money available on debit, and so he packed lightly for Vegas, bringing only a black satchel with some books to read and a tablet computer to do some basic work on.

=========================

Alexander departed Caesar's Palace, his confidence reinforced. No longer in the polo shirt and jeans he had worn before, he now strolled out of the entrance in a grey cotton suit with navy tie.
Several hundred dollars of his winnings already spent on his current clothing, he held another thousand of it in his bag in the form of notes, while the other six or so thousand was being wired to his debit account, which would become accessible in a couple of days.

Alexander tried to keep himself from smiling stupidly, thinking it wouldn't look cool or suave or something and mismatch the persona supposedly projected by his clothes. At least, that's what the tailor in the store had assured him of.
Currently he didn't care, instead reveling in the internal glow of how well he had been able to pull it all off. Remarkably, having the subject acutely focused on something made it easier to read his thoughts. Or, at the very least, Alexander only had to recognise up to fifty two different data points in his subjects brains.

After spending a couple of minutes matching each of his soon-to-be-opponents neural spikes to certain cards and situations, he steamrolled each of them across five consecutive games of blackjack, at which point he upped and left that table with the rest of them, and repeated the process three times over, only losing once because a new face joined his third table before he was able to be fully read.

He made a loop away from Caesar's Palace that would return him to the Bellagio in an hour's time, and along that route purchased an expandable backpack that could double as a general travel bag, and proceeded to fill it with a week's worth of clothes and underwear, though nowhere near as high quality as the suit he proudly made his way around Vegas in.

=========================

Striding into the Bellagio's foyer, Alexander moved to reception and adopted a light Swiss accent, taken from his immigrant grandparents. He was curious about the room he was being sent to, at least temporarily live in.

"A friend of mine stayed a few nights here in the past months, in room 409A. Is that room currently booked?" Alexander asked.
A few seconds and several clacked keys later, the receptionist responded "Sorry sir, it is currently unavailable. Other nearby rooms are, however; would you like one of them?"
Alexander put on a thoughtful expression at this point, Hmmming to himself before responding, "Thank you, but no. May I ask, is the room booked by an Australian, a mister Sibelius? Who has yet to arrive?"

The receptionist regarded Alexander with an inquiring gaze, voicing her puzzlement: "That's... Correct. How did you know?"
Alexander smiled, lowering the backpack he was previously holding, "He's also a friend. We're a circle of nearly two dozen or so, almost always passing through Vegas, so we've made it a habit of booking the same room. He let me know he'd arrive tomorrow. Anyway, I'll come back later. Thanks for your help."
Alexander gave a friendly departing wave to the receptionist, then left through the entrance.

Ten minutes later he strode back in with changed clothes and his satchel stuffed into his backpack, and made his way to the other reception, this time identifying himself as his actual self. Once the key was handed to him, he inquired with the male receptionist "How long's the room been booked for?"
The man at the desk replied, "Nearly a week now, sir."
Alexander nodded, inquiring further, "Would you be able to print me out any of the details of who payed for the room? Name, address, company, bank details?"
The man clacked keys as his eyes zipped about the screen, puzzled by the request, but found such a thing possible. "I certainly could do that sir, just a moment."

Several moments later, Alexander was putting the documents into the front pocket of his backpack as he walked away, while the receptionist was puzzling over a series of unknown commands and processes briefly flashing over his screen, before vanishing and returning the display to normal.
Alexander entered the elevator and keyed the appropriate floor, adamant that he investigate those who booked the room - he could reasonably be assumed to be (at the very least link to) his employers - only after he was comfortably settled.

He dropped his backpack as soon as he went into the room, closing the bathroom door and having a shower, long and hot to wash away the feeling of lethargy and grime a near-full day on the plane had so generously given him. A solid twenty minutes later, Alexander left the bathroom with a towel wrapped around his waist, ready to examine the details of his benefactors for the first, cursory time.

Walking out of the shower to find his backpack closed but in a different position to how he left it, Alexander dived for it. Quickly opening up the zips, he then proceeded to spend the next cursing-filled quarter of an hour unpacking his bag and checking every nook and cranny of the room, certain he had been robbed to some degree, and of only that one particular document.

~Up in the Air~
As the plane began its flight from the Adelaide airport Zack was starting to have troubling thoughts, yes this would be an excellent chance to get more money for University funds and the like, but seriously how did this man know about his 'gift'? He had kept that a close secret, he'd often left hints to his parents about it but they mustn't of been smart enough to figure it out. That's another reason that Zack had gotten into university and not them, but then again it didn't matter that much.

What did matter was the fact that Zack hadn't been asked if he wanted a snack or beverage yet, on all the other flights he had been on they'd offered food and beverages almost as soon as the plane was in the air.
Then a flight attendant appeared from the front of the plane and Zack stopped his silent ranting. The attendant walked down the aisle pushing a trolley full of food and drinks, while she pushed it she would stop and ask people if they needed anything, yet none of them said yes.
'All the better.' Zack thought, he was starting to get rather hungry.
"Good morning, sir." She said, then continued in a cheerful tone. "Would you like any food or drinks?"
"Yes, I'll have a packet of chicken chips and some water thanks." Zack replied, trying to sound as nice as he could at the time. The attendant gave him what he asked for and Zack gave her the required money.
"Thankyou." Said the attendant and gave Zack an envelope, then she moved on without another word.
"Must be a receipt." Zack muttered and flipped it over, quickly opening it and pulling out its contents, that was when Zack noticed that this was absolutely not a receipt. It was a letter and two keys. He read the letter and realized this was a personalized to him, most likely from the man from the dream.

Zack Farwell:

You will be expected to arrive at the Bellagio Hotel at approximately one hour after your arrival. You will be expected to arrive at room 305C at 8AM sharp. Failure to do so will result in you being removed from this job. Until then your room will be 409A. You may go there or gamble your life away. We do not care. As long as you arrive at 305C at 8AM you should have no problems. Whatever you do, don’t get drunk. You will not wake up on time. And Zack, don't speed up your perception of time or you may be late.

'How strange,' Zack thought, then shrugged off another potentially bad feeling. Zack needed sleep, that was all, then he'd be ready for whatever could possibly be ahead. Then in the span of twenty minutes Zack had fallen into the drift of sleep.

~Arrival~
Zack had awoken from his sleep half an hour before the plane had reached Las Vegas, and he was excited to the core. He spent the last thirty minutes thinking about what was ahead of him, it could possibly be certain death. Then again if he pulled through he would be rich, then again that depended on his pay, so he'd more likely 'be more wealthy!'.
Then before he knew it the captains voice carried through the plane.
"We have arrived in Las Vegas, please unbuckle your seatbelts and enjoy yourselves." Then there was a large bustle as people grabbed their luggage and tried to head out, although Zack was out first because he only brang a back-pack with two bottles of water, some snacks, deoderant and then his Ipod Touch so he'd have some entertainment.

After another twelve minutes later and Zack was calling for a cab.
In another thirty he was at his hotel room at the Bellagio, using his Ipod Touch and trying to finally finish Angry Birds, then he fell to sleep on his bed after giving up.

~6:33~
Zack awoke and went in the shower for about ten minutes then returned to his bed and got changed into his clothes.
Today would be a big day, a lifechanging day, the day that leads up to him getting a lot of money. This day would be good.
He waited in his room for a while then left to find room 305C.

He whistled a tune as he walked to the door of room 305C, put the apropriate key in and turned it until he heard a gentle click and then stared for a second at the elevator behind the door.
"How weird." He said aloud and entered the elevator. "Now what button," He said to himself in a joking manner, there was only one there anyway. The humming of the elevator filled Zack's head as the elevator went downwards, then there was a ding as its door opened to reveal a room with plain walls and a table with a group of people around it sitting in chairs, Zack was obviously meant to sit in one of those chairs, but even so there would be still chairs empty so Zack could only presume there were more members of this group. Or whatever it was, Zack had only just found out there were other people than himself.

He gripped a chair and nodded to the man he had seen in his dream.
"Man that messes with my dream." He said as a greeting, and then nodded to the others in a greeting. "People like me." Then he sat down and said no more.

~- Let the Music Play -~

Sync laid back in his seat, watching Siam sleeping soundly on his left. A smile touching his face, he looked away and out the window; curious to how much longer it would be until they arrived. It'd been three hours since they took off, Siam had dozed off because of a migraine. Shaking his head, Sync glanced at the flight attendant as she said, "Excuse me sir, but could you wake her up?"

His gaze was drawn to the envelope in her hand; shaking his head quickly, Sync mutely held his hand out for the envelope. "I'm sorry, but I was given orders ----." She stammered to an end, unnerved by the glare Sync sent her.

A cold look in his eyes, Sync snarled, "I don't care about your orders; you can let me read it and I'll tell her the contents when she wakes up on her own, deal?"

The girl handed it over and walked away; saying something about "stuck with temperamental people" and "unfair", not that he cared either way. Opening it, he pulled out a piece of paper and unfolded it; without any hesitation he read it.

Sync and Siam:

Please realize how fortune you two are; we generally don't do this kind of thing. You are to stay in room 412A at the Bellagio Hotel, then in the morning you are to go to room 305C; if you don't arrive on time, you will not find out the answers to your questions. If you two could refrain from using your "gifts" it'd be appreciated, especially you Sync, no matter how good causing a gale of wind sounds.

P.S. Sync, there's a little something for you in the envelope.

Confused, Sync peered into the envelope again and saw a small vial nestled at the bottom. Reaching in, he felt his fingers curl around it, and pulling it out he felt confusion melt into disgust. Standing up, Sync walked over to the window. Forcing it open, he dropped the vial outside and slammed the portal shut. Wandering back to his seat, Sync sat down, and watching Siam felt his eyes drift close.

~- Arrival/Meeting -~

Siam awoke and saw Sync standing in the aisle, mutely she stood up and followed him off the plane. Getting a ride in a cab, they arrived at the hotel within a few minutes; walking into the hotel they headed for their room. Turning a corner, Sync hastily covered her ears as they walked past a room, muffling the voice on the other side of the door.

A few minutes later, they came to their room and unlocking the door, Sync peeked in and inspected it; after he was satisfied he opened the door all the way and walked in. "I swear Sync, I’ve got to get you off of those criminal shows." She sighed, a little (okay, more like very) exhausted, at her traveling companion’s antics.

Siam walked into the room after him, listening to his jab and in response, she hit him upside the head. "Okay, okay Gibbs that’s enough! Sheesh, don’t need to be so crabby," Sync muttered, rubbing his head where Siam had slapped him. She put her backpack on the floor and sat on one of the beds; noticing the distracted look on his face; Siam nearly said something but Sync said, "Go to bed Siam, I’ll finish unpacking and then I’ll call it a night."

She knew there was no point in arguing, so instead she complied and curled up to sleep. Awakening a few hours later, she glanced at the clock and read the time; a groan escaping her, she jumped out of bed and grabbed a clean shirt and pair of jeans, slipping them on she wheeled around at the sound of soft laughter.

"Don’t mind me, I was just enjoying the view." Sync teased slightly, who’d just gotten dressed and dried off from a shower; a smirk on his face; earning a pillow being flung at his head.

"Jerk!" Siam growled, earning another chuckle from him.

"What’s it you’ve said before? TTGS wasn’t it?" Tensing, Sync bolted past Siam, and opened the door; slipping outside he ran down the hallway. A grin on her face, Siam gave chase and followed him toward 305C; the soft sound of their feet on the carpeted floor added a cheerful beat.

Skidding to a halt, Siam looked at the door labeled: 305C. Sync slide the room key (when’d he get that? must’ve been when she was sleeping), and opened the door to reveal…an elevator? What the blazes? Following Sync through the doors; Siam turned around and looked at the writing, a small grin on her face as Sync pressed the single button…creepy.

"Charon? Isn’t that someone who ferry’s souls into the underworld?" She asked lightly, glancing at Sync, she sighed mentally at the tense look on his face. Shaking her head, she looked up at the ding, slowly the doors opened to reveal a large (rather bland) looking room. Instantly noticing the table in the middle of the room; Siam walked toward it only for Sync to hold her back; now out of the elevator.

"Hello again," he said coldly, glaring at the man from the dream.

Aby looked around her room, making sure she wasn’t leaving anything important behind and also wondering if she was doing the right thing or not. Was it right to just runaway from home to Las Vegas (of all places. Her parents would read the carefully written letter she left them, get to the part where she named her destination and instantly come to the conclusion that she’d run off with Timmy to elope) to do who knows what (probably something illegal) for a suspicious stranger (case and point)? She loved her life as it was and she knew that once she left home things wouldn’t ever be the same. Somehow that man from her dream knew of her powers and she wanted to know why. She wanted to know where they came from and her best bet would be to meet this guy and get him to tell her. He must have gone through great lengths too, tracking her down and putting those tickets in her mailbox. Aby sighed, seeing nothing more that she needed, and left her room, softly closing the door behind her. It was pretty late, everyone in the house was asleep in their beds. Aby tiptoed down the stairs and into the kitchen, placing her letter on the kitchen table and sneaking out of the kitchen door, pausing only to scratch Skitty behind the ears one last time. With that done, Aby zipped up her jacket, slid her hood up and walked off into the night.

1am. The plane took off as Aby tried to get comfortable in her window seat. She hoped there was an in flight movie to take her mind off things. Like the fact she was now a runaway. With her luck she’d be on the news by tomorrow, or on the back of milk cartons. Even with her letter she knew her parents would flip out and blow everything out of proportion.

“Miss...Cowell?”

Aby looked up at the flight attendant who, she noticed with a little satisfaction, was dressed in purple, asked if she was comfortable. Aby nodded and asked for peanuts. The flight attendant rolled her eyes and handed the teen a milela envelope stamped with a kitten before bidding her farewell and walking down the aile. Aby sighed as she opened it up to read the letter inside.

Aby Cowell:

You will be expected to arrive at the Bellagio Hotel at approximately one hour after your arrival. You will be expected to arrive at room 305C at 8AM sharp. Failure to do so will result in you being removed from this job. Until then your room will be 411A. You may go there or explore. We do not care. As long as you arrive at 305C at 8AM you should have no problems. and don’t get yourself arrested. Your 17 so your not going to be gambling and drinking. The staff also know to be on the lookout for a cute cat on the premises that matches your cat form’s description. So don’t get any ideas about sneaking to places you shouldn’t be.

Aby rolled her eyes, they thought of everything. But she didn’t plan on getting drunk or losing all of her money to a stupid game. She might need it later and she’s seen Timmy when he was drunk. It wasn’t flattering to say the least. Besides the letter there was also two room keys, one for 411 and one for 305. Aby waved down the flight attendant again and asked about that in flight movie. This was going to be a long trip..

---

After a decent movie, some sleep and then some turbulence during the landing, Aby found herself walking out of the airport and hailing a cab to whisk her off to the hotel. After checking in and tracking down room 411, Aby let herself in and looked around her new room, putting her things down on the bed.

“Nice place” she commented, making a beeline for the shower. After a long, steamy shower Aby slipped on a change of clothes (yellow blouse, black jeans and a black jacket over that) and ordered room service. Breakfast was the most important meal of the day after all and considering her life was going to change in an hour or so she figured she might as well have a full stomach. She’d never believed in that starving yourself to look good bullshit that other girls her age seemed to. So while they were worrying about pounds and such she was enjoying some ice cream or whatever she felt like eating at the time. She still looked better than most of the other girls in the school.

Her mom commented that it was because of her high metabolism and that it would catch up with her one day but Aby was convinced otherwise. She was just special that way.

After a breakfast of bacon, eggs, sausage, a few jelly biscuits, apple jax, orange juice and a muffin Aby cleaned up, brushed her teeth and walked off to find room 305C. It wasn’t too hard to find (Aby was expecting to get lost or something) and the door opened to revel......an elevator. The girl blinked. Weird. She walked into the elevator and pressed the only button available.

“I guess it’s just a regular elevator..” she mused aloud “it even has regular elevator music”

Soon the elevator opened with a ding and Aby looked around at her new surroundings in wonder. The walls were bare and blank, there was a huge table in center of the room surrounded by chairs and people milled around, either looking at various things in the room like Aby herself was doing or talking amongst themselves.

“I guess i’m not in Kansas anymore” she murmured to herself before stepping forwards to the man from her dream. The man that had lead her here and caused her to leave behind the people important to her.

Time for some answers.

~Departure~

Kirie had packed a small bag, she had money. So, taking clothes wasnt necessary. She had packed her 'delicates' and her brush, toothbrush etc. She did however not need the plane ticket. She wasnt a snob, but she hated flying and it made her nervous and a bit sick. So she took the familys personal jet. There were perks to flying in her own jet. She could for one bring whatever she liked. It was her business. Two, she didnt need to sit next to the fat guy that farts and belches all the time. That was terrible. Kirie hopped in her new Bugatti and started it. Inside, there was a box on the passengers seat, it had a note taped to the top of it that read.

Dear Kirie,

I knew that you would back out of the flight. I decided to give you the benefit of the doubt and send you this. This package contains your room key, 408A you will be bunking with another like yourself. I have a special gift for you. A revolver, its called The JUDGE and 100 rounds of 45 ammo, as well as 50 rounds of shotgun shells. We also took the liberty of acquiring you this concealed weapon permit. Please arrive at the Hotel previously mentioned and meet your roommate. Above all else be at room 305C at 8 am sharp. If your late you are fired. Plain as that. See you soon.

Kirie opened the box and sat the gun, and ammo on the seat. It was a nice gun she had to give him that. Starting her car, she backed out and went to the airport. She was in the air soon and didnt even have to go through customs. It was her plane and her employees. All she had to do was pull up and get on.

~Arrival and Greetings~

Kirie lay in her bed sleeping as the plane touched down. She had slept beautifully. She stood and stretched grabbing her bag that now had a loaded weapon and some ammo in it Kirie stepped off the plane. She called a cab, and in a few minutes she was at the Hotel. She checked in and was off to her room. As she walked in she heard the shower running and so she tiptoed in and peeked to see who her roomy was. It was another girl, and her dog. Kirie smiled at the dog and tiptoed back out. It was nearly time anyways. Closing the door softly she walked back down the long hall and stopped at a soda machine.

'hmm, Pepsi it is'

she inserted her dollar and the machine buzzed as the automated arm went to the soda and sat it in the holder. Grabbing her soda she walked down to room 305C and used her key to open it. It was an elevator. She got on and noticed the word Charon.

'how original' she thought as she pressed the only button. The elevator sped downwards and dinged as it opened. She stepped out to see that there were others in the room as well. There he was, Mr Dream man.

'Is he wearing sandals..?'

'Nevermind Kirie, just pay it no mind'

'How are you going to do that, he looks like a hollister billboard'

'that is irrelevant, stay on task'

'where are the fashion police when they are needed'

'Hey Twilight called, they want their Metrosexual Vampire man back'

'stop that, his 50 year old mother probably dresses the same wa.... I mean get back on task'

Kirie kicking her thoughts to the curb addressed the man in the sandals.

"Hey, Im here. I am going to go take a seat by my roomy. "

He smiled and waved then turned back to talk with the person he was engaged in conversation about.

'This had better not be like that one movie Rat Race. I will carry my ass home..'

Kirie looked over at her Roomy as she sat down.

"Hi I am Kirie, we are roommates, or so this paper says"

Really, huh. Alright I guess. I guess you have a power too.. Might I ask what it is?

Yea, its fine. I doubt there is any need for secrets here so its Gyrokinesis. I control gravity.. I can fly so that is cool.
I bet! Mine is Necronesis, I can turn into a black fog that carries death in it. So never breathe that. Also I can fly cause I kinda have wings.. and a tail.

Wow, well I never expected that. I wonder what all their powers are..Look at that one girl that is standing by the door. I bet she has a really cool power.

I dunno, she looks like a cat person to me. I have a dog.. That may mean we dont get along..

I guess we will just have to wait and see...

"See ya sis. Thanks for the ride. Talk to you soon." Eric waved good bye to his sister as she drove away from the airport. Hopefully, he thought as she dissapeared and he turned got everything ready and boarded his flight. As the plane left and it attained level flight, the flight attendent stopped by his seat. "Mr. Hodson," she asked. Eric smiled and replied, "Yes and what can I do for you?" She handed him a letter and went back to her seat at the front of the plane. He opened the letter and read

Mr. Eric Ulric Hodson
You will be expected to arrive at room 305C at 8:00AM sharp. Failure to do so will result in you being removed from this job. Until then your room will be 415A. You may go there or gamble your life away. As long as you arrive at 305C by 8:00AM you should have no problems. Try not to drown anyone.

He smiled at the letter, especially the ending. Why, if I didn't know any better I'd say that I was being told something minor. What's this job that's mentioned here. Very interesting, he thought. The plane he smiled and took a nap.

===================

He awoke and straightned his glasses as the plane decended and landed shortly after. He got out of the plane putting his hat on his head. I want to see where this city that never sleeps, he thought as he looked at a map that they had in the arrival area. He sighed and decided to go straight to the hotel. Deciding to get a good night's rest.

====================

LV, NV. 7:45 AM

Eric awoke with a yawn. Why do meetings always have to happen when I just get up. Maybe some cold water will help, he thought getting up. He changed into his clothes and arrived at the door marked 305C, using the card he opened the door to find. . . an elevator. He got on and looked at the one button. Charon farries those who have died to the underworld. Those living souls that enter the underworld can't leave if they eat or drink anything there. So tells the tragic of Persephone, he thought. He could just leave and never care about this again. He would probably forget it after a year or two. The door closed and he looked at the button that his hand had pressed. The elevator opened up again and he stepped out and took a seat. "Well, interesting crowd we have here huh," Eric asked the man from his dream. He looked at everyone that was sitting at this moment, eyes lingering on the girls for a few seconds longer than they would on the guys. "How do you all do," he asked all the others sitting around the table.

It would have been difficult to discern the exact time the plane had touched down, partly because of the expected weariness that comes from a multi-hour flight, and partly due to how ill Minerva felt afterward. It wasn’t that he had a fear of heights, but rather gained a momentary queasy disposition when it came to long rides in anything. Being an active person, staying still for an extended period of time wasn’t his favorite activity. He was always moving, always in motion; never in rest.

That being said, it was definitely late at night. He recalled an ink-blotted sky that mirrored his feelings at the time. The rest of the night blended together in a vivid, yet distant, blur. He distinctly remembered the drinks, the goofy atmosphere, and definitely the guy who suspected Minerva of foul-play when he began conversing with an attractive woman. He wasn’t interested in the woman, per se, but rather the ink that she was sporting. He hypothesize her need to use her body as a literal canvas for unnecessary discoloration barely resembling any hint of symbolism or characters as an almost obsessive drive to garner attention from, say, men like her boyfriend in order to compensate for how little attention she was given as a youth. The dim woman, bless her heart, figured he was hitting on her and called for the, as he put it, “physically unappealing and visually offensive boyfriend” to deal with the issue in a diplomatic manner.

Needless to say, that did not play out well.

Min had got off rather easy. It was the boyfriend that had the real issues. Of course resorting to violence wasn’t Min’s first option. But after Min asked the boyfriend if his mother or father was the reason he was a temperamental, unstable man, he felt an answer would be best described by a fist to the mouth. Leaving the grotesque details behind, Min had ditched the boyfriend and her emotionally-draining squeeze to pursue other aspiration; that is, the buffet.

Having being spared of airline food, calling him hungry would be a gross understatement. Eating in a fashion akin to kings or competitive eating championships, he was quick to down much of the food. Satisfied he prepared to leave until the inquiry of the bill was brought up. Confident of his earnings he was ready to pay when he realized that his money had gone missing. It must have been swiftly relieved of his person during the scuffle earlier before. The letter was eerily specific yet ambiguous enough to be accused of a poorly put together plot of the latest action-adventure cinematic, and stated that he was not to get in trouble for fear of losing a hypothetical job.

Making himself scarce, he had perfected the art of dining-and-dashing.

Now, about that hypothetical job, it wasn’t that Min was stuck in a financial singularity; in fact it is quite the opposite. He made enough to support his menial life. This occupational façade had piqued his interest enough to go nearly halfway across the country simply to query the possibly nonexistent employer what he enjoys most about Sunday mornings.

It was out of boredom, this rash act of madness. As most acts are derived from boredom or for some self-indulgent reason. It was the lure of the fisherman, the teeth-rotting candy to children, the chocolate to relapsing avid dieters, the succulent goal that goes beyond mortal expectations.

That and he didn’t have much to do anyways.

He had managed to sleep well because, and in spite of, the racket being made by the restaurant owner searching for the lousy diner that had skipped out on the bill. Fortunately he wasn’t that bright. Managing to elude the man even after he ran out of the hotel undetected, then again, becoming invisible isn’t exactly making things fair.
Min donned a black shirt under an even darker dress jacket with respectable bottoms and sneakers. His best shoes were ruined when he snuck out of the restaurant through the better end of an alley; that being, the worst end.

The allotted being eight o’clock in the morning, Minerva arriving at the place in question at least ten minutes early. The choice now being whether he should arrive on time or fashionably late in an ironic manner. The former being the safer option he set off, his curiosity growing malignant the closer he got to his destination.

Drifting off to a day-dream he couldn’t remember what happened next, all he knew was that he ended up in an elevator heading down. Min would have wondered about Charon, but he isn’t very pretentious. Shrugging at the aspect of perverted, irresponsible, lazy gods going around fornicating like it is going out of style. Greek mythology wasn’t his forte, nor was he interested in it, considering his name even the bitterest of observers would guffaw and how ironic he wouldn’t have any interest in that sort of thing. His name is certainly up for interpretation but does not dictate his lifestyle or interests; that is certain.

The doors slid open seamlessly, Minerva blinked.

The room was crude, unimportant, bland, and coma-inducingly terrible. It reeked of poor design and disinterest. Offensive to all of the senses it could be the epitome of bad rooms. Hell wouldn’t have a room like this because it would offend the demons.

“I mean look at it!” Minerva narrated aloud, “It is completely insubstantial, this table!”
He stepped forward and gestured broadly to the table, tapping it to demonstrate his point; whatever that may be.

“I was expecting mahogany, but I gather it must be difficult to reach up to standards, or even sub-standards.”

He sighed and looked around purposely, “There is nothing here either. I suppose this job involves interior decorations,” glancing over at the latest person to arrive (that is the person he preceded), he grinned and stepped toward him, “You don’t look like an interior decorator though. Hi! I am Minerva named after that one lady in Michigan who found Jesus in her pancakes.”

He held out his hand to Eric, awaiting a response, perhaps one as cordial as Minerva’s; but anything worked. Reactions were interesting, those incapable of reaction were the uninteresting ones, those who visibly react were the persons of interest.

Andrew found himself far more worried than he figured he had any right to be. He was always worried, paranoid, something along those lines. Still, he figured that this had to be a good opportunity, for him at least. He had seen a man in his dreams, which is typically fairly normal. People dream, big deal. However, this man had prophesised something peculier. He had claimed that he wished to hire Andrew, and that there was a plane ticket to Las Vegas waiting in his mailbox.

It was honestly a wonder that he managed to leave his house at all, let alone make it to the airport. His parents were going to be against the idea, but with some creative lying, he managed to relieve them of his presence. He was worried, but he wrote down what happened and hid the paper in his room. Just... in case he didn't come back. To reiterate, he was quite paranoid. Still, someone knew about his ability. He had never showed anyone. He barely used it himself. If anything, this man might be able to tell him why he had it... and he might make some good cash on the side. With money came a world of possibilities! New car, mastectomy, bribe money, he'd be living the sweet life, yes indeed!

He packed relatively light, but not ridiculously so. A bit of reading material, three or four outfits, his contact lenses, glasses, various things related to bathing and general cleanliness, and that was about it. He didn't know how long he would be, or what he would be doing, so it was just better to be prepared.

After boarding the plane, Andrew decided to try and relax. No worries, be happy. He stuck his headphones in his ears and listened to his version of whale songs. (Led Zeppelin) After some time, he found himself approached by one of the stewardesses. She handed him a letter, which he opened virtually immediately. It detailed a couple of things, but seemed a bit impersonal... not that he let it get to him. It told him where he would meet his employers and when, told him where to go and which room number was his, typical business stuff.

He was a bit happy that it actually used the name "Andrew Wood". He hadn't changed his name yet, not legally at least, mostly because he wasn't certain that Andrew was going to suit him well enough... it was a challenging decision, at the least. He'd be saddled with whatever name he chose for the rest of his life, and "Wood" didn't strike him as a particularly tasteful name for someone in his situation.

When he finally reached the hotel, things were uneventful. He was too young to do anything of note, and too nervous to enjoy the few things he could do. He stayed awake late into the night simply because he was unable to calm down enough to rest. As a result, he missed the alarm he had set by a bit, and woke up a tad too late...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Andrew groggily opened his eyes, and saw only blurry shapes here and there. It took several moments for his eyes to adjust to the early morning light streaming in through the window to his room. He felt about for the edges of the unfamiliar covers, and pulled them off of himself. The air conditioning was up, and he felt just about right under the covers. He decided to leave the AC on while he prepared. No sense in showing up to the meeting already sweaty...
He then realised that he had yet to check the clock for the time.
It read 7:30.
"Shit."
Andrew, now a bit pressed for time, decided to make showering his top priority, having only a few outfits to choose from and not having to worry about shaving. After finishing up in the shower, he picked out the only semiformal outfit he had brought with him, and probably the only remotely formal thing he owned (and would be willing to wear). A grey blazer and dress pants combo with a white shirt and no tie or any of that other fancy stuff. He had to make a good impression, and more than anything he needed to look 'in control'. They could smell fear... whoever they were. Too bad he didn't bring any cologne. Or own any cologne. Nonetheless.
He was finally ready to leave when he realised that he had neglected to put his contacts in. "Idiot" he said, smacking himself in the forehead for good measure. He only had a few minutes or so before he had reason to be really panicking for time, and he was not prepared to wear his glasses to any meetings of any sort any time soon. By the time he had finally finished up with his contacts, he was nearly about to run out of time, and set off looking for the room he was supposed to be at, 305C. He was fairly close, but he jogged anyways. Better than losing his only chance to learn about his ability, losing a ton of cash, and utterly wasting his time.
And eventually, he finally came to the door. It was inconspicuous, but when he opened it, it seemed slightly more than suspicious. It was, in fact, an elevator. He couldn't help but wonder how no one had found it yet, but he wasn't about to question the ways of people he didn't even know yet. On the inside, he found only two things: a button, and the word Charon. He had no idea what Charon was, but he was fairly certain he knew what to do with the button.
When the elevator reached its destination, the door opened onto a large room, empty other than a large table surrounded by chairs. Some were occupied by people he had never seen. In one of them was a familiar face. 'The man of my dreams,' he thought to himself, halfway to snickering at the prospect. Still, he could hardly laugh. He needed to be professional, at least until he knew what the deal was. He wasn't about to screw himself over here. Not yet, at least...
The man in the ridiculous, Hollisteresque clothing motioned for him to have a seat.
Andrew took him up on his offer, and crossed the floor.
Curled up on her bed, she couldn't believe the dream she had had and the letter she had gotten. She knew she couldn't stay around here with her parents forever and trying to use her powers in order to be a medical student wasn't enough. She stayed in her room and packed a few things that were important to her. Her notebook of important things to remember, a few pens and extra notebooks just in case, and other small things that a girl would need. This included an extra pair of glasses she had. Taking one more glance at her room, a sad expression befell her face. She was going to miss this room, this house, her parents, even her school. Although she felt like she didn't belong, she stilled liked this place.
Practically running down the steps from her room, she stopped at the door. She smelled food and felt her stomach growl with pangs of hunger. Trying her best not to be seen, she tip toed to the kitchen. Her mother and father weren't anywhere in sight. Just a table set for one. On the table were her favorite things. Raisin bran cereal, two pancakes, orange juice, one fried egg, and one sausage. Tucking in, she didn't think it was weird at all. Her parents usually did this in the morning. They never really talked to her except when they all ate dinner together. Although, their reasoning was just as good as anything, they worked from early mornings to late afternoons. Wiping her mouth, she put the dishes in the sink and took one last look at her kitchen.
Shaking her head, she walked outside. Digging in her pocket, she pulled out the letter she had received. There were words on it, her name, and that was it. No return address, no sender information, nothing at all. It didn't quite strike her as strange, but it didn't make sense either. Why did somebody want her and what were they going to do to her? She thought this as she sat down and waited for the bus to arrive shortly. This gave her a chance to actually read the letter for the first time.
Veronica Stewart:
You will be expected to arrive at the Bellagio Hotel at approximately one hour after your arrival. You will be expected to arrive at room 305C at 8AM sharp. Failure to do so will result in you being removed from this job. Until then your room will be 420A. You may go there or gamble your life away. We do not care. As long as you arrive at 305C at 8AM you should have no problems. Whatever you do, don’t get drunk. You will not wake up on time. And Veronica, don't try to help anyone.
The bus arrived just as she finished reading the letter. Sighing heavily, and choking from the smog, she walked and sat on the bus. It was going to take her to the airport, from there she would get on a plane and arrive at the destination long before she was expected. The drive to the bus was uneventful and boring to her. She was glad she got on the plane at almost the exact moment she expected herself to be there. The plane ride was also uneventful, other than she practiced her power on a bird that sat on the wing before they took off.
=====Las Vegas, Nevada 11:36 PM=====
Somewhere during the flight, she took a nap. Thankfully she awoke just as the plane landed. Instead of lingering around here, she practically ran out of the plane and airport. It was rather hard finding her way to the hotel, but she arrived eventually. The elevator ride up to her room was long and she was tired. The room was of average size and looks, but it was still pretty neat. She took full advantage of what they gave her and quietly slipped into the bed and slept.
=====Bellagio Hotel 6:43 AM=====
Tired and groggy, she arose from the bed. Slowly making her way, she took a shower and started to blowdry her hair. Which didn't take long at all. She walked out of the bathroom and made her way to the minifridge and grabbed some milk. There was cereal here and she intended to eat it. Carefully, she sat on her bed and ate the cereal there. It's not like anyone would mind, it's not her place and it's just a room. The maid's would clean it up eventually. Thankfully, she didn't spill any and was done with her cereal. This gave her just enough time to look at her fingers and the small plastic rings that were on them. There were only two, pink and green, and that was it. Not wanting to look at her notebook, she pondered what they meant.
The pink one was so she wouldn't forget to call her parents once in awhile and the green one something she had forgotten. It didn't really trouble her, because she had it somewhere in her memory that she would remember one day, somehow. Regardless, she found herself lost in thought. That is, until about 7:42. Standing up quickly, she gathered her backpack and ran to the room. Stopping at the door, she saw a strange card identification slider. Panicking, she looked in her bag. Maybe it was in there, maybe she had forgotten it, or maybe she never had it. She kept digging around in her bag. Her fingers touched plastic and she quirked an eyebrow. It was a card that she had never seen before. Curious, she used it on the door. It took a minute or two, but she saw the door slid open like an elevator. Lo and behold, there was an elevator.
Stepping inside, she read "Charon" on the wall. Familiar, yet foreign, she pondered what it could mean. She was sure she had heard it before and that it was bad. Shaking her head, she pressed the only button that was there. As it sank downward, she had a feeling of dread, as if she knew she wasn't going to go home any time soon. The elevator stopped and opened slowly. Stepping out, she let her eyes adjust to the light in the room.
Stark and empty, the room was boring to what she was used to. Save for the table and other guests, she thought this place was empty. Sitting down at the table, she opened her backpack and pulled out a new ring. This one was blue. In her notebook, she wrote down what it meant and sat there, looking at all the others.
Eric looked at the man and gave him a warm smile. "Hello Minerva, you can call me Ulric. My parents didn't much care for me as they did my heritage. It wasn't nice to judge me based on appearances, but your right I can't do interior decorating. If you don't mind me asking, why were you named after the lady in Michigan?" He shook Minerva's hand before asking the question. Strange name to give a guy, if you ask me. But, at least I'll have someone to talk to, he thought.
Creating bonds to save our world and bring peace
~Las Vegas, Nevada, Bellagio Hotel 7:30 AM~
The party had gone crazy all night. It was one of Raitei's famous parties and everybody knew about it. It always lasted till the very early of the morning but, for once it ended around two'o clock that morning. Hotel parties were grand especially when you had two rooms of pure enjoyment. Raitei could never contain himself so, he made sure that he had the most wild and fun parties known to man. Ever since he started working Las Vegas, Rai had been known to go everywhere and do everything. Women were fond of him and men wanted to be him. It was great being the son of two millionaries while also garnering vast amounts of his own cash through various hacking jobs. Rai was a good man though and kept the fun from getting dangerous.
The sun began to rise over the horizon, hitting his window. Light gleamed across Rai's face and the woman that laid beside him. He slowly woke up with a headache that could kill a horse. The night was wild and the woman was better. "Dear god. My body is not ready." Rai stated while he sat on the edge of his bed. His attention sooned turned to the door. There was a sliding noise as a white envelope came into view. He never knew anyone to writte him notes and maybe it was his father but, then again he had a phone which could be called. Raitei stood up with wobble as the hangover took effect. He only hoped today wouldn't be long and complicated. Getting the envelope, he opened it to reveal a letter and key.
Mr. Raitei Yamasuri
You will be expected to arrive at room 305C at 8:00AM sharp. Failure to do so will result in you being removed from this job. We already know that you have your own room which is to be expected of a rich kid. It is expected that you will gamble, drink, and party like every other day but, be warned that any trouble you get into is your problem. Arrive at 305C by 8:00AM and everything will go fine. Please refrain from draining the electricity or electrifying anyone.
~Bellagio Hotel 7:59~
As he entered the elevetor, Rai took no notice of the name that was engraved. He never cared for those things and the name Charon inquired no form of attention from him. Maybe it would take him to hell or just to another floor like every other elevetor. Though he could say that it was kinda hot and it wasn't just because he was wearing a hoodie and jacket. "Geez feels like i'm standing in the desert." Rai commented while his transportation moved to it's floor. There was a ding and the door opened, slowly revealing the blank room and the people tanding aorund the table.
Taking several steps forward, Rai eyed the women. "Well hello everyone. Name's Raitei." Rai exclaimed in a happy tone. He always made sure to be the brightest person in the room.
"But...But I-I'm scared, mommy!"
"Calm down, child, it will be alright!"
"Bu-but...But I--!"
"Could I be of an assistance?" A warm voice asked. The mother and her daughter looked up from their seats to see a man standing in the isle next to them, a warm smile across his face. Edward gently sat his hand on the little girl's shoulder and crouched down to her eye level. "If I may?" he asked, motioning to the mother. "I think I might be able to help your daughter."
"Oh, the poor dear's just afraid of flying."
"You're afraid of flying?" Edward asked the little girl, a soft tone of surprise in his voice. "Why, don't you like being up in the air? In the air, you're flying side by side will sorts of beautiful birds and soring above the puffy white clouds. Doesn't the idea of flying over a rainbow excite you?"
"I-I guess..."
Edward stroked the hair on his chin lightly with the nail of his thumb. "I know," he said, lowering his head closer to the girl's level. "How about I make all that bad fear go away? Would you like that?" The girl nodded a silent reply, wiping the tears from her eyes. "Alright, try this: Imagine you are on a beautiful beach." Edward lifted his hands, gesturing as he spoke. "Imagine the sun is bright, the sea is blue, and there is miles and miles of soft, warm sand beneath your toes." Edward placed his right hand on the girl's shoulder again. "Now picture there is a dolphin jumping out of the water. It rises high into the air, then falls back down, leaving a beautiful trail of water behind it. Isn't it beautiful?"
The girl giggled as Edward continued on, becoming calmer and calmer with each image Edward added to the mental scene. Finally, when Edward had finished, the little girl sat in her seat, completely calm without the slightest hint of fear.
"Thank you so much, sir," the mother said, relived that the girl had finally calmed down. "How can I ever repay you?"
"No thanks necessary," Edward said with a smile. He rose from his crouched position and stretched his back, which was accompanied with a small popping noise. "Your daughter enjoying the flight is more than enough thanks for me."
Edward sat squatted near a small, black cat. The man had spent nearly half an hour, just sitting there with the cat, confusing the passing people. Edward cocked his head slightly to the left and the cat mimicked his movement. Then again, this time to the right, producing the exact same results. The man gave a soft chuckle, the cat returning with a confused stare.
Edward was, in truth, studying the small cat, trying to figure out why the small cat had not run from him. He would have thought that an animal of its small frame would be afraid of a much larger one such as himself. Did he simply give off a warm nature that comforted the cat? Or was the cat simply too stupid to understand that it should be afraid? It was certainly an interesting conundrum.
Edward finally made a movement toward the cat, extending his arm out toward the small feline. The small cat rubbed its face against Edward's hand with no fear, nothing but warm affection toward the man. Edward smiled and placed the palm of his right hand upon the cat's head, rubbing it slightly. The two remained motionless for nearly a minute, Edward's hand gently upon the cat's head and the cat obediently standing still.
Hssssssss!
The cat pulled back from Edward's hand, its teeth bared. The cat's fur was on end, each black hair standing at attention. The warm, kind eyes that were looking at Edward but a moment ago were now gone, replaced with eyes that showed anger and fear. The cat swiped its claw at Edward's hand, landing a scratch across Edward's ring finger.
"How interesting," Edward said to himself, as he watched the cat dart away from him. The man stood up and stretched his sore legs, nearly losing his balance as he placed his weight on a foot that was asleep. "How very interesting."
Salutations Mr. Edward J. Yates III,
I am--well, that's not really important. Let's say, a friend. If you are reading this letter, then that means you have accepted the job presented to you and are now en route to Las Vegas. You are expected to arrive at the Bellagio Hotel's room 305C at exactly 8AM, no earlier or later. In the envelope you will find two keys, one to the previously mentioned room 305C and another to room 417A, whether you use or not being entirely up to you. You may do whatever you please between the time you arrive and 8AM, that is, as long as it does not hinder your physical or mental performance abilities. We anxiously await your arrival.
-A friend
Edward looked up from the letter he held in his hand, a puzzled look on his face. He had never been to Las Vegas before and finding this place was like finding a needle in a haystack, or in this case, a specific hotel in Las Vegas. It was just insane how many of them there were.
He walked along silently, taking in all the surrounding noise and images into him. People talking. Horns honking. Sirens wailing. The bright, flashing neon lights for the various establishments, each one bigger and grander than the last. Prostitutes standing on street corners selling themselves to horny old men with a fat wallet. It was all just a mess, everything rolled together with little order.
Finally, after what seemed like an eternity of walking, Edward reached the Bellagio Hotel. As he turned to enter the building, the man ran into someone not paying attention to where they were going. Both men's feet left the floor and were accompanied by a shower of papers.
"Oh, excuse me," Edward said kindly, "but it would appear we had a bit of a collision."
The other man, however, did not share Edward's light-hearted point of view, and quickly grabbed the escaped papers, muttering a string of incomprehensible curses under his breath. Edward, being the helpful soul he was, picked up a piece of paper a bit further off from the others and walked it back to the man. As he did, he spared a glance at the paper. The paper seemed to hold a list of important details of a person, though Edward did not catch exactly what. A client perhaps?
"Here you are," Edward said warmly, handing the paper to the man. "This one had gotten away, so I went and got it from you."
The man ripped the paper from Edward's hand and, after giving a slight nod of thanks toward Edward, proceeded along his way at a quick and hurried pace. Edward watched the man intently before he lost him in the crowd.
After his little "front-end collision" at the hotel's entrence, Edward made his way up to his room--417A, as the letter read. As he passed through the hallway, he heard a very loud string of profanity pouring out of one of the rooms, joined with what sounded like someone rummaging through things. Edward chuckled and shook his head. As he came to his room, Edward simply dropped his possessions on the table and proceeded to fall asleep, not even bothering to take a shower or brush his teeth.
"7:59:57, 58, 59, and...." Edward looked up from his watch. "8:00:00."
The man rose from the floor next to the elevator and walked down the hall, searching for this room 305C. While waiting, he had seen several people already pass by, all going in the same direction and out of sight. Edward wondered if these people too were apart of this "job" he was hired to do, whatever it may be.
"Will I kill someone?" he asked aloud to no one in particular, simply bouncing the questions about verbally. "Will I have to steal something? Perhaps I will be smuggling something? Will it be dangerous? I wonder..."
Edward had accepted this job, not for the money it likely presented nor for the thrill of the job. No, Edward was here for one simple reason: to observe. He wanted to see, experience, and enjoy anything and everything that might happen on this "job" presented to him. He wanted to see how those around him would react not only to his presence, but to his...studies.
He reached room 305C while he pondered and, upon sliding the key, was surprised to find the door open up to an elevator. It looked like a fairly normal, everyday elevator, save for the fact that it held only one button to push and had the name "Charon" scratched into the wall.
"My, my," Edward said aloud, a small chuckle escaping his lips. "Does this mean I am now in the presence of Charon, the ferryman of the dead?" He paused for a moment, as if waiting for a response. "Then will you be ferrying me across the river Acheron into the depths of Hades?" Edward paused again. "Oh, but of course." The man reached into his pocket and, after fumbling through it for a moment, pulled out a shiny, new penny. "You require a coin for your fee, correct? I have no obolus, as I'm sure is your regular charge, but I do hope that a penny would suffice." Edward sat the penny on the floor beneath the name and pressed the button on the elevator.
The door opened with a 'ding', as Edward reached the end of the line. The bright room poured into the elevator and the man was forced to spare a moment to adjust to the new surrounding. As he walked from the elevator, he noticed how sparse and empty the room was, save for a table and a group of people.
"White. Empty. No colors, no life. Nothing but the pure nothingness of the void." Edward smiled warmly as he reached the group. "My, my, it would truly appear I have gone to Hades."
Running for daylight, sleepless...
~- I Saw Your Shadow Tear You Apart -~
The flames were licking up the walls, cloaking the windows to feed its never ending hunger; past the flames, it was a sixty foot drop, and none of them were advanced enough to survive that distance. No escape that way. The door wasn't much better; a rain of bullets and an almost certain death sentence lay in that direction. And if not death, imprisonment and slavery, which might as well be worse than departing this mortal coil.
A vicious snarl ripped its way through his teeth as he spun around, trying to find a way out of what was quickly becoming a very air tight trap. The only thing he could think of...
"There!' he coughed, trying to clear the smoke out of his lungs. Drawing the attention of the other three to the air vent half-way up the wall, he continued, "That's our ticket out of here."
"Are you crazy? The girls could get in there, maybe me. But you? Ain't happening!"
"Do you have a better idea?" He growled, glaring at the smaller boy. "Listen, only chance you three have
is that air shaft."
"What about you? You don't plan on dying here, do you?"
"I'll bust out one of the windows and get out that way. I've got enough control that I can save myself by turning just before hitting the ground." Giving up on being gentle, he grabbed the smallest girl's hand and started pulling her towards the vent. "But I can't save my own rear if I've gotta worry about you three." Yanking off the cover, he hauled first one girl, then the other up.
Turning to the other boy, he hissed in a barely audible whisper, "Keep those two safe, got it? You don't, so help me, I'm gonna have your hide, and your abilities won't help you." Getting a quick nod from him, he helped him up, then snapped a quick, "Now get out of here!" before slipping the cover back on the vent.
Okay, now came the fun part. He wasn't too worried about getting out; there was one window that had fewer flames around it, so he knew he could get through it easy. The only thing was, he'd lied when he said he had enough control. He'd been practicing, and he'd gotten loads better in just a short time, but he didn't know if he could do it in this kind of pinch...
The door came crashing in, and the first agent entered the room. Too late to think, he was out of time. A long legged stride had him across the room in a flash, and he dove through the window. Glass shattered all around him, shining like small, brilliant stars as they winked their way to the ground. He felt a strange tugging sensation just above and below his left eye, just before his head exploded in pain. There he was, falling through the air, a trail of blood winking behind him, trying to clear his head enough so he could change before he killed himself.
He should have known this wouldn't work out like it did in the movies.
Kiba jolted up in bed, drenched in a cold sweat. Shaking his head, he shoved the covers off and went over to look out the window. Even at four a.m., the lights of the casinos were blaring bright into the room. Squinting his eyes, he shut the curtains, cutting the glare instantly. Las Vegas, the city that never sleeps. Or was that phrase suppose to be for New York? Whatever, give him his quiet, Tennessee pad any day, these crazy city slickers could have their nonexistent nights.
Turning away from the windows, he coughed softly, the acrid taste of smoke still on his tongue. He laughed slightly, but that brought on another mild coughing fit because of his agitated lungs. First time any sensory details had followed him from the dream into the waking world. Sheesh, his cheek still felt weird and he had a headache, too.
Careful not to wake Cheza, Kiba went through his bag until he found the bottle of Excedrin. Popping a couple, he was about to go to bed when a flash of white on the desk caught his eye. Moving over, he picked it up. It was the letter from the plane.
Kiba Frost and Cheza St. Clair
Okay, just for the record, he didn't care that these guys, whoever they were, were planning on hiring him and Cheza for some kind of job. *whatever that may be* That they knew enough to address one letter to both of them instead of two separate letters for each of them bordered into stalker territory.
You are expected to check into the Bellagio Hotel about one hour after your flight has landed.
That one was a no brainer. The air port was about half an hour away from the hotel. You include the traffic *lucky for them, it'd been light, strangely enough* and you were looking at, tada! A friggin' hour from touch down to check-in.
Your room is 424A. You are to be at room 305C by 8:10. Failure to be on time will result in the loss of your job offer and the college scholarship offered to you both.
The free room? Nice. The deadline? He had to be up earlier to get to school on time. Near perfect attendance was a good thing when you were known for getting in fights; helped your grades keep your butt in school and all. The threat of losing the job? Not something he liked, but he was a pretty good writer; this fell through, he was sure he could still get the cash he needed once he finished his manuscript.
The scholarship was what he was here for. It was the thing that had drawn him and Cheza. Both of them had been lucky in the sense that their families had money, but they'd also been raised to be hard workers. Their parents had been thrilled with when they found out about the scholarship offer; it was enough to get them both through an excellent college and then some. It was the reason their families didn't have a problem with them going all the way across the country. So, no way was he screwing this up.
You can do whatever you desire. Just know that if you do anything illegal, you are on your own. We will not bail you out.
Which was exactly why he had stayed in the room once they'd gotten here. He didn't need a chance fight to screw up what he knew was a once in a lifetime shot. And he sure as hell wasn't going to screw this up for Cheza. Besides, call him boring if you want, but drinking and gambling? Totally not his scene.
These gifts of yours are very special. But without training, they can be dangerous. Try not to use them until we have spoken.
The moonlight one? It would be a sure fire way to get rid of the headache right now so he could sleep. But between the bright-as-day-night outside and the fact that it was nearly new moon? Not much chance of that one right now.
The dreams? He'd love to just pack them up in a box and set them in the furthest corner of his mind, thank-you very much. However, dreams were a pain that way. You could school your mind into dreaming what you wanted to while you were still awake all you wanted; those stupid buggers would always do what they pleased, and your thoughts on the matter could take a flying leap.
And Cheza...
Kiba knew her powers were harmless. The girl was too sweet for them to get out control.
"Kiba?"
It was a soft sound. Light as a feather; insubstantial as dandelion fluff. Turning around, he just barely saw the light reflected from eyes he knew were the soft red of a robin's breast. He could see the sleep still heavy in them; it'd be so easy to get her back to sleep.
Sitting on the edge of her bed, he ran his hand across her hair and whispered, "I'm here. It's okay; it was just a dream. Go back to sleep, Cheza." Even after she fell back to sleep, he kept stroking her hair, watching her sleep.
~ 8:05 ~
"Look at that. Five minutes early."
They were at the room. Cheza reached out a hand to touch the door. Pulling it back, she rested her fingers against her chest as she said, "Many have been through already."
"Well, maybe it's just something that requires more than one person?" Swiping the card, Kiba let a brief flash of surprise wash over him. This was an elevator, not a room! Shaking it off quickly, he stepped into it with Cheza and pressed the only available button. "I think we're still okay on the scholarship front. They said the only way we would lose it was if we were late. And we're actually early, right?"
Cheza didn't answer; instead, she was tracing something that had been traced into the door of the elevator. "Charon," she whispered softly; a chill seemed to travel down their spines at the same moment.
Kiba laughed slightly, trying to erase Cheza's unease. "The ferry man for Hades? Hope that doesn't mean we're about to sell our souls for this offer..."
There was a slight ding once the elevator stopped. Stepping through the doors, at first, Kiba thought they'd been set up; the room was completely empty. But when he blinked again, he saw that, nope, it wasn't. The walls were all white, and there was only a rather bland table, but he and Cheza weren't the only ones here. There were a bunch of other people, ranging in age from their late teens to mid twenties. Including...
"Hello, dream walker," Kiba said, inclining his head toward the one that had started all of this. While he wasn't sure if he wanted to be very friendly, he'd had his manners whipped into him at a young age, and they weren't about to fail him with such big stakes on the line. "Are we waiting for anyone else, or is this everyone?"
Darius didn’t have to wait long as everyone began to trickle in slowly……pretty much immediately after he had arrived. And they all took their seats. He didn’t have time to take in all their features because the moment they all were settled into their chairs another man walked into the room.
“Everyone this is Mr. Nash“And my name is Aeacus. Yeah, enough with introductions. You guys can get acquainted on the trip. Now,” Aeacus stepped back. “Listen to Mr. ”
Mr…..Nash stepped forward. Darius noticed that there was a gold ring on each one of his fingers. He loved gold apparently. He wore a black business suit with a black tie. His shirt was finely pressed and his hair was nicely combed and obviously gelled. His shoes were nice and shiny, someone had slaved over those shoes making sure they glowed like the stars in the heavens for this moment. Or they were patent leather. But Darius doubted Mr. Pluto went that route. He was well built and had this look of constant hunger about him. It wasn’t necessarily a look of food hunger……more like ambitious hunger.
“And here we are. Finally got all you rounded up. I take it you all made it here safely and had no complications.” He looked around….almost as if he was daring someone to open their mouth. None did. He smiled. His teeth were like pearls. They were the best teeth Darius had ever seen. “Well, good. So we can continue then.” He began to pace down the table staring each and every one of the people in the eyes. His eyes were the color of burning embers“ I am sure you all are wondering why I have called you here on this lovely day.” He stopped when he got to the end of the table. "I am also sure you have questions that no one has been able to answer and you felt that this may be the place you could finally get what you wanted."
"Sadly today will not be the day you will know those answers. For I do not know them myself. But what I do know is that each and everyone of you is special and unlike you I know how to utilize special things. For example this mission I am about to send you on will allow you to use your abilities."
Darius just sat there with his mouth open waiting for more.
“I need you to break into the Louvre and get something that belongs to me.” With that the room transformed. Well…one fourth of the room transformed. It was a big television screen with what looked like an image of the Louvre being displayed. Mr. Nash cleared his throat “Obviously, this is the Louvre. What is not obvious is the heightened security that is surrounding this place. I sent a team there last week and they never returned. Then again they were not as special as you group of people. Some of you are young and some of you old, however, this means nothing when it comes to this job. What matters is that you have a gift. A gift that my last team didn’t have. I believe those gifts can be utilized in this mission.”
“How in the hell did I acquire the knowledge to know you had a gift? Lets just say that I got my hands on some nifty technology that allows me to find special individuals such as you. I am glad I got my hands on it. How do I know you guys won’t try to back out of this? Because, here you are finally understood and among others who are just like you. Of course a few of you already knew each other, but now you get to grow closer among “Friends”. That is how I know you are not going anywhere. Some of you were shunned by your communities for being socially awkward freaks. Some of you have been searching for that answer to your problem….or your blessing. You want to increase your abilities or just understand them better. Trust me, this will allow you to reach your goals. You can do whatever you wish to do with the rewards from this mission.”
His words were as sweet as honey. Darius was sold from the moment he got the dream…but for some others this may not be the case.
“Now what do I need you to get?” He then showed a picture of the object in question. It was the Mona Lisa.
“I know what you may be thinking. Why that? Well because I have always been fascinated by this piece of art. So I want it. Simple as that.” He seemed to believe that no one was going to question him farther because he continued without hesitation. “And you are going to get it for me.” With that he made his way back up the table. “Of course you will need the proper training and skills in order to get it. But since you we need this to go under way fast you will be trained our way.. Now, if you will follow me to the next room.” With that he turned and made his way towards the door to the left of them.
Darius couldn’t believe this. Not only had he just been thrust into the middle of something. He had been thrust there with no explanation other than this man wanted something and he would not stop until he got it.
Darius leaned over towards the girl sitting next to him and said. “Can you believe this shit?"
She bit her lip tentatively. Although she came here and was expecting only a few, there seemed to be more than she had hoped. This made her uncomfortable. Reaching into her bag, she pulled out her notebook. Writing down another thing to remember, she popped on a lavender plastic ring. At first, it didn't want to fit her finger. In fact, that finger didn't even move for a moment. Gasping, she started to concentrate on something. Thankfully, the ring fit on the finger and said finger was moving normally again.
Exasperated, she put everything away and sighed heavily. That was a scary moment. Turning her head to the two that were talking, she scratched her head. Why would that girl think that any of them would extra arms? That was just silly! "We don't all have to have extra arms you know. More or less, nothing about our "powers" could mean that we have extra bits and pieces. Right?" she said loudly. Maybe somebody else would speak up. Because that was just as awkward for her to say as she thought.
