this is my first topic, if i'm doing it wrong... be gentle.

Although I understand this forum has a young member base I'm going to take out the assumption that alot of you must have jobs, atleast part-time.

I work part-time as a croupier at the local casino and I have more stories to share than you can care for. :p

I mean, the casino buiness is a very different world, as unlike other customer-service roles you offer your patrons nothing but the experience in exchange for their money. There's alot of pain and suffering masked underneath the punter's face and is definately a place to study human psychology!

***

But enough about me, share your stories!

Do you have a "normal" job?
Do you hate your customers?
Do you have a funny/interesting/unfortunate story of your job?
Have you ever been fired?

ps. no, no one ever wins at the casino

I don't have a real job yet (still trying to look for a part-time job and a college at the same time), but I currently do the payroll for my dad's business every other week. It's rather funny because I'm still in high school and all the other people working for him are adults and know me, but none of them besides the manager knows that I do their payroll. Ok, maybe funny wasn't the right word. Amusing, let's call it.

If they knew it was me doing the payroll, they'd probably throw a fit. Even though I haven't made a single mistake in the year I've been doing it.

Dead in a gorge.
I work as a life guard at the YMCA.
A few weeks ago, I had a women come in and she started swimming in her shirt (we don't allow street cloths in the pool) I went over and told her it wasn't allowed, so she started to get out of the pool. I turn my back for 10 seconds to answer a question, and she's swimming in her bra. All in all the situation was taken care of. I just stared there a few month ago, and the people are nice and nothing unusual goes on, but time will tell.

Before that I worked as a life guard at a public outdoor pool. WORST. JOB. EVER. *Most* of the people were insubordinate dirts, running amuck, urinating in the water, yelling at me for enforcing the rules. Telling me to watch their kids so mommy can run around the corner and have a smoke in the bushes, or try to let their 8 month-old go down the tube slide with Pa-paw who has motion sickness. If it wasn't that it was children defecating in the sand area or teens getting a bit too close in the corner of the lap lanes. That's just one days worth of work.
Then when the day was over and everyone left, we were also the cleaning staff and had to clean either the deck, changing rooms, or guard area. Being unlucky, I always got suck with the women's changing rooms. (which was the biggest, filthiest, area in the whole facility. Seriously, the mens changing room was cleaner.) Reliving the horrors of that would just....*shudders*

Wasn't a job, but I went to CIY's Know Sweat with my Youth Group. We helped clean up this guy's parents yard/house. His parents were in the nursing home because they have some disease (forgot what it was) and he lived in a state over, and is an only child. So his parents house was just over run with Plants and Trees. And let me tell you, this property was pretty huge. The biggest problem was 4000 square feet of Blackberry Bushes that took over the backyard. We got rid of it all in the 3 days we worked, plus we painted his house, cut down all the trees but one in the front, mowed the lawn, cleaned the basement and fixed the roof. I worked off Sweat, Blood and Tears. Well, no tears, but there was blood and sweat. But the food at the college we stayed at was so good... Specially made for us. The students there didn't get anything close to this stuff. On the last day the cooks worked late for the group of Youth Groups at the house we worked at. We decided to stay till 7 because we wanted to get it done, the normal days only went from 8 to 5.

I'll never forget those Blackberries. So many... It's terrifying. Everyone who was working on the blackberries put there blackberries they cut down into separate piles. I had the most. Then we threw the Blackberries and the trees in a wood chipper.

i used to work for rite aid (which sucks, dont work for rite aid)
anyway me and my co-worker caught a guy shop lifting and stopped him at the door.
you could literally see it sticking out of his coat.
so we showed him the box he tryed to hided in the bathroom, and said we know you have it and asked him to give it back.
his response was "i need it i have health problems, i have blood clotts in my legs and lungs and i have sugar problems" blah blah
so we asked him to give it back again and he started denying having anything (dispite you could see it)
so as i go to call the police the lardass takes off walkin out the door.

i take off after him and literally follow him half way down the road to down, at that time the police come up the road.
i stop them and show the cop who the guy, and at as i do this 400+ man takes off running towards the woods (health problems my ass)
the cop catches him b4 he gets there and searches him.
he found the blood checker and eye liner.

sadly all he got was a thing where he had to go to court.
the next day the guy tried to go to another store but ran out when they turned on the cameras.
the next few weeks it shows him in the paper getting sentenced to parol and such.

not much of a story but all i got :/

We live at our jobs for 8 to sometimes 15 hours a day. The workplace is filled with many different types of people and some who are more pleasant and gifted than others. The workplace also contains many and various people who are managing the business or operation who are also working with many and varied skill levels. As was stated, this blog is to allow America to share their work stories both good and bad. We're also going to have stories from people inside different companies about the inner workings and all the various characters in the office.

@ Ragnell - do you do your own payroll aswell? $$$

@ Fortissimo - oh my gosh that's awful, I can't think of anywhere filled with more body fluids that a public pool D: you poor thing.

@ Weeaboo - is that a good thing or a bad thing to you?

@ luap911 - ugh, I've had many run-ins with blackberry bushes.. and when I say run-in I mean I actually ran into them.

@ Anagram - I've always been told that you usually don't run after shoplifters encase they like, attack you. Still, the running after the bad guy stories are always the best :)

@Adara - whut
