Spoiler ShowOk so..some are jumping the gun and thinking that the keykids are going to die as part of the sacrifice or price that YX will have to pay (theorizing that YX knew the price Sora would have to pay for abusing his powers bc YX had done something similar himself and knew what would happen). If that’s true, regardless of what the ‘thing’ was that YX may have done to deserve punishment, whether we think YX becomes more sympathetic now or not has to be based on assumptions of what the ‘thing’ was he did, why the keykids died, how they died, and whether YX’s actions did lead to their deaths. It’s entirely possible that he didn’t know they were going to die, but then again, if he was already an assho!e then he didn’t care. But, this cutscene doesn’t make it seem that way so I’m wondering what the hell happened to YX between him leaving SAC and meeting up with MoM in that Re:MIND scene. Bc here he appears to be completely mournful, and also, the MoM scene takes place after this (we have to assume at this point) bc at this point YX hasn’t yet gone on his world tour or gained the coat, so I don’t know that it makes sense for the keykids to be a sacrifice for something YX did that broke the rules if he didn’t actually ‘do’ it until after the MoM scene—he doesn’t give MoM an answer when MoM asks him a question like what are you going to do, so it’s just implied that he does whatever he does only after that event. So the timing is iffy.
Of course, that’s just assuming YX did something like what Sora did when he abused the Power of Waking and that his friends’ deaths are a consequence of his decision (although the KH3 intro inplies that YX has scene the ‘night sky’, which another thread on here talks about completely). If that theory isn’t true, then however they died it must have happened such that YX blames himself for their deaths, at least enough for Eraqus to say that it wasn’t his fault. It may be that he’d already gone bad by then, but he’s paying his respects and their deaths may even factor into his decision to leave SAC for all we know, maybe bc of guilt or something else.
Basically, Woody only had the version of YX to go on, which was after he fell to darkness and became a bastard doing all the wrong things for the kinda-sorta right reasons. So he’s not an ass for saying what he said,
BUT, if we assume that the keykids died as a sacrifice bc of something he did or just that YX feels guilty over their deaths (which seems pretty obvious), then whatever happened had to have contributed to his state of mind at the time of his Mark of Mastery. And for that reason, I’d probably cut YX some slack, even though he is an insufferable prick.
This was supposed to be a funny, unserious post, guys.
Yeah, but it does bring up some good points. Like at what point in time did Xehanort actually become an assho!e? I’m curious now. Is it a nature versus nurture? Was he always an assho!e or was he just born destined to be an assho!e? Where are his parents that he could just wander off like that? Where are the effing parents y’all, these are children!
(Seriously though, I really hope he’s not responsible for ⚰s)
Nothing makes this Woody an ***hole. Because (1) even if you gave Wody the context, Xeanhort still chose to abandon and brake his bonds with his (deceased) friends and be a loaner instead. Everyone who watches shownen anime knows - and this isn't remotely false with KH - that friendship overcomes that of the loner path. If Xenahort decised that darkness is the hearts true essence despite feeling laughter, friendship, love, HATE, sicklyness, and sadness...he is moronic. That is all that can be said.
(2) without context of YX life, the current YX is a dick-shower instead of a dick-grower, so to speak, he is just mean and grisly. so Wod is crorect
And this makes his lack of a comeuppance in KH3 ending even worse
