Why is Xehnaort's Age No Longer a Problem?

In BBS, Xehanort needed to steal Terra's body so he would not die of old age.

In DDD, he returns as his old self as though that were not a problem at all.

What am I missing here?

We do not know if Xehanort's age is still a problem or not actually.

The only thing we DO know for sure is that Xehanort did indeed return inhabiting his true, old body.

Why and how that is, as well as the current status of all parts of Terra and Eraqus, is deliberately left open as a mystery.

Xehanort knew it would take a while to gather together enough people to form Organization XIII and begin the Keyblade War again. He couldn't wait a decade in the body he had, so he possessed Terra. By DDD, that 10 years has already passed and so he can return to his older form again, untouched by the flow of time. We know he had already begun recruiting people to join because Braig was shown to have already been 'norted by the end of BBS.

Well Xehanort's main reason was to "survive" as he said. Buuuutttt personally I'm just rolling with the assumption it doesn't matter anymore since Nomura's decided he wants to use old nort as endgame.

He probably needed to use his "new body" as a vessel so he returned to the old one.

If you think about it he's technically came back in 13 bodies no? It's a mystery where Terra is or why he reformed as the old man but technically he's got his consciousness divided 13 ways too. (he already displayed the power to possess their minds with young Xehanort)

Was it confirmed that Master Xehanort was utilizing his old body, or is his heart projecting his image, much akin to how Sora projected his own during the last bits of the original KINGDOM HEARTS, and up until the finale of Chain of Memories?

I mean, from what I understand, Master Xehanort is probably one of the only ones in that scene who's actually 'there'. Xemnas, Ansem and Young Xehanort (and probably Xigbar since Braig looks different, even in the new 2.5 Re:Coded scene) are all time-displaced if I recall correctly. Xehanort is said to be 'materializing' which I've taken to mean is he's materializing his original body. His heart had already returned to the present, after all.

Honestly, this is probably the smallest of the age-related inconsistencies. Why don't we talk about Ventus, hm? Let's talk about Ventus.

At the time of Birth by Sleep, Sora was roughly 4 years old, right? However, in the BBS prologue, he was like a newborn (if even that much), right? His heart was just sort of floating around when it connected to Ventus's. Yet, in the span of those four years, Ventus hasn't aged a day. What?

Then we have Aqua wandering the realm of darkness for 10 years. Though of course you can chalk that up to time flowing differently over there. Gotta have that Mcguffin'ing!

Then we have Ienzo/Zexion. It's stated that Nobodies don't age. Except....Zexion aged. He went from a pip-squeak to a bishonen.

Then there's Namine as well. She grew at least a foot taller between CoM and KH2. But she's a special Nobody! ...So what about poor Zexion? Isn't he special too?

This is the only real plothole. This can probably be chalked up to time and them not wanting to make more models.

That's not a mcGuffin. a McGuffin is a plot piece that serves no real purpose and is only there to serve ambitions. If it can be replaced by anything, like a candlestick or a briefcase, and not change the story it's a McGuffin. The Realm of Darkness is a whole different realm, and since the first game we've known that when a world is lost to darkness it stops in time. So, that's not that far off.

Then we have Ienzo/Zexion. It's stated that Nobodies don't age. Except....Zexion aged. He went from a pip-squeak to a bishonen.
Nomura said it once in an interview in 2009, but in game occurrences trump interviews. Every time. Having said that, a Nobody probably shouldn't age without a heart, and yet Xemnas has said that many of the Organization members started gaining hearts of their own. Ienzo would have been one of them, then.

Except they had a model for Ventus specifically for the BBS prologue scenes. Scratch that, THREE models. The first is Ventus without his shirt. The second is Ventus in his blanket. The third is Ventus without Eraqus's emblem, back when he was Xehanort's pupil. Every single one of these had to be rendered and animated individually.

In the time that Roxas was born, to the time where he rejoined Sora, he didn't age. So there's one Nobody - with a heart - who didn't age.

But that is still easier than new designs, and scaling, and redoing it again. I'm not defending it, they definitely cut corners. It's possible they didn't realize it until it was too late. If I recall, the opening for Birth by Sleep was different originally but before it came out Disney requested they move the beginning to the night Sora was born. There's evidence that there were quite a few last minute changes. As I said, it's an inconsistency for sure.

I recall in an interview that originally they were going to have Roxas grow throughout the game, but scrapped it. Given that he starts off with 15 year old Ven's appearance anyway and eventually grows his own personhood in under a year, this one isn't as big of a deal. But still, a valid example

That was not a different model, but the same 14/15year old Ventus-model with different texture jobs applied to it.
The shirtless version and the "Xehanort's pupil"-version were just the regular model with some textures removed, namely in the latter case Eraqus' emblem, the criss-crossing chest straps and the shoulder armor were removed while in the former they simply removed all three or four layers of upper clothing Ventus' normal model had.
The "white blanket" version was the shirtless variant with a new layer of textures, namely the blanket, being added.

A true, fitting model would have had to show a smaller, 10/11year-old Ven in the flashbacks, but they obviously didn't bother to make a whole new model.

Aqua and Terra also do not have different models despite the whole flashbacks being supposed to happen four years before BBS itself, and with them they didn't even bother with applying different texture sets.

The DDD Ultimania called it "Master Xehanort's true body."

So yeah, his old body.
