I don’t know if I’d call the acting super hammy, but I agree that something was missing in Re:CoM, at least in the dub.unless it's in the form of making it available on NSO, I don't wanna hear it!! Extremely good game with such good spritework, it's beyond looney that it hasn't been made playable in any fashion since the GBA days. I highly recommend a playthrough... Something about it carries a KH1 mystique that the PS2 remake somehow erodes. Maybe it's the super hammy voice acting?
I think it comes down to, for me at least, the fact that this was the first game they decided to not lipsync the voice acting and just do ADR to the JP footage. While they did get better with it in games like Days and Re:Coded, it still felt a bit distracting in their cutscene theatres. Especially since every other KH game with voice acting actually had lip-sync work put in.
Another factor, I imagine, is that since the original CoM had no voice acting(outside battle grunts, spells, and game overs), a lot was up to the imagination of the players. So when we got to hear them in English for the first time, Axel aside, they might not have lined up with what we would’ve had in mind. At least at first, as time has given us the chance to warm up to them to the point where we see them as the voices for those characters.
