All I’ve wanted from this and Dreamlight Valley are outfitsMaybe Disney Pixel RPG will have a KH collab! Then we can pretend
If we just pretend ML stands for Mario and Luigi, then yes, ML is coming out soon!
Don't forget about the game where Mickey goes on an Epic quest to save the world from darkness. It’s really wild how we have ML (Mario and Luigi), a game where Link is Missing (Echoes of Wisdom), an RPG about going to different Disney worlds to stop an invasion of dark creatures (Disney RPG), and a game set in a fictionalized Tokyo written by Nojima and composed by Shimomura (Reynatis).
Also a new trailer for that Disney rhythm game dropped. It’s a shame this isn’t being localized.
I wholeheartedly agree, though that probably wouldn't stop them from doing it anyway. RE4 being almost as widely available as Doom, and many other factors that make a remake pointless in my eyes didn't stop Capcom, nor did it stop the remake from being a huge hit.just more evidence that KH1 is the most special of the KH games, impossible to remake. It could literally have only come into existence when it did and the series has such wildly different objectives nowadays that remaking KH1 would only strip it of everything that makes it feel like such a unique, Squaresoft title
In a world where BBS exists I often wonder why it's always KH1 getting hit with the clunky allegations.I wholeheartedly agree, though that probably wouldn't stop them from doing it anyway. Even if we personally feel a remake would take away from KH1, there's probably a much larger amount of people who say they couldn't get into it because it was "clunky", or the combat was too stiff, or whatever. With all of that said, yes, KH1 is the best one and everyone should go replay it!
Exactly, and I don't think that's exclusive to newer fans either. As an anecdote, a few years ago my friends and I decided to play through KH1 simultaneously on voice chat, exchange tips and use that as a way to introduce one of them to the series. He loved it and saw the game through to its end, but one of them was mostly a KH2 fan and dropped the playthrough in the Cerberus fight because he couldn't get used to Sora's weight and the pace of combat.I think when newer fans say the combat is stiff, they're looking at it from the perspective that the game isn't doing anything cool for you.
One thing I appreciate is the way in which combat and exploration are tied together by things like swinging your keyblade to extend jumps, or freezing bubbles to turn them into platforms and so on. It feels really good because you're using the exact same controls and abilities, just in different contexts.I know KH1's platforming has a teensy learning curve but doing successive short hop air combos in KH1 is slicker and weightier than it is in any other game in the series. The arc of momentum that Sora carries into each air combo feels fancy today, no games are coming out that feel tight like that anymore.
I'm probably wrong on this but isn't this the first time the Winnie the Pooh characters are playable in a big Disney crossover RPG?
Tigger is now officially able to beat the shit out of everyone and I'm all in for the little bouncy fella.
One of the stipulations is that the Disney characters can have more free reign if it's made clear that these are "alternate versions" of the characters. If you take a look, most of these Disney games have settings or premises wherein the characters are in a mirror world, a video game, a toy box, or someone's imagination.
But I thought there was a separate stipulation specific with Winnie the Pooh characters and violence.
Your whole debate reminds me about speed in Sonic. Is speed a mechanic for looking cool (Boost era, modern games), or the reward for being skilled at the game (classic games, adventure games to a lesser extent)?Exactly, and I don't think that's exclusive to newer fans either. I mostly mashed X through fights in KH1 as a child, but it's not even close to how snappy and strong it feels to mash X through KH2, or even activate a drive form and mash even harder!

These are fighting words btwadventure games to a lesser extent
I wholeheartedly agree btw, even with KH2 being my favourite, I have never ONCE felt KH1 being clunky. Its a little slower sure, but there's weight and impact behind every hit, parry, combo and its really smooth! I'm a total novice with actual gameplay but even I can tell when a game's tools are good vs when I'm just bad. If you wanna talk about real clunk, DDD is awful for it. Just totally broken. In a world where BBS exists I often wonder why it's always KH1 getting hit with the clunky allegations.

I know KH1 has the reputation it has, but I'll fight til my fingers fall off for its honor. I think when newer fans say the combat is stiff, they're looking at it from the perspective that the game isn't doing anything cool for you. They're looking past the rock solid fundamental gameplay that was not only insane for 2002 but is still unmatched in so many ways (tech points omg) because Sora is not very flashy or overanimated.
KH1 has incredibly strong core mechanics, divorced from any nostalgia or tender feelings I have for the game. I'll be old and wrinkly and scary looking saying all this same crap someday I'm sure.
These are fighting words btw
And that's fine too, these things aren't mutually exclusive! Both of these games offer things that scratch different itches, even if one's a sequel to the other, so don't worry about irony or anything like that.At the risk of sounding like a cranky old man (again), I prefer looking cool in the KH1 Sephiroth fight because I mastered the game (it's probably the only game I've ever really mastered to that extent) than look cool because I pressed a button. And I say this fully aware of the irony of KH2 being my favourite game of the series, perhaps of all time for me.
