It’s wild to think SE’s other location-based game, DQ Walk, was announced June 2019 and released September that same year. I’d be curious to know when it actually started dev and how it compares to ML.

I don’t care if it releases next year at this point. I just want to see more of the game so we at least know more about what we are waiting for.

At this point, Missing Link has had a longer reveal-to-release window than every single game in the series besides KH3 and KH4. Longer than KH1 and 2, longer than BBS and DDD... Missing Link has taken longer.

It's just kinda embarrassing at this point. It feels like they're having a complete meltdown. The cost of keeping this project afloat must be getting ridiculous at this point, and the only way they can even try to make it back is to increase the price of the in-game purchases. We are witnessing Kingdom Hearts's biggest collapse.

And for what? The outcry of having another mobile game has been so loud that no one's talking about any of the interesting things we've seen about the game/the beta.

I'm just baffled by this game. Truly baffled.

And imagine it launching with only like.. five hours of missions, with the rest scheduled to come weeks later. I'm asking for real.. what needs to happen for this game to get a truly positive reception? I don't think it'll be praised for its combat-- I've watched a lot of it, and while gameplay tastes are subjective, the animations and mechanics seem really below the series standard. So how can the game make it up from there, from the extremely lengthy development period to the inevitable in-game purchase wall?

The whole thing gives me the heebie jeebies

Square Enix is in a weird place right now.

- Last AAA Final Fantasy games, FF16 and FF7 Rebirth, failed to meet sales expectations.
- Dragon Quest 12 is going through development hell. because they don't know which direction they should take the franchise.
- They are wasting money on another Kingdom Hearts mobile game that won't last long
- And where the hell is my Final Fantasy 9 Remake ?! That's the worst kept secret in the industry in the last 3 years.

I guess you could say that Missing Link has become a... Missing Link.

I swear to be God if Missing Link turns into the Nuts and Bolts of Kingdom Hearts, there will be blood on the streets of Shinjuku

Kingdom Hearts Missing Link just needs to break into the middle aged mother walking groups and then it’ll make bank. But that’s a tough group to get into, Square Enix needs to put their whole Squareussy into it if they want to get into the green.

Goodbye goodbye goodbye we could have had Sora sliding with Frozone or doing flips with Mrs Incredible 😭

SE should realize that not every country is as mobile-crazy as Japan.

And yeah, something clearly went wrong here. They were obviously planning on pre-reg happening around June with those stupid QR codes that I doubt anyone in Japan has anymore. They had those damn ads ready too.

And instead of that we get total silence from SE as if this stupid pointless waste of money called ML doesn't exist to the point where people here took some goddamn interviewer who has no clue what's up with the game saying "this year" as confirmation that the game will somehow make 2024.

Do you think it’s possible they decided to go on a multiplatform route and started to port ML to consoles?

I doubt it. Aside from the whole game being built around a GPS mode that's intended to make money through selling your location data to companies, the gameplay itself is very basic and it would not be fun to play on console. Mission structure is very short and doesn't translate to keeping the attention of someone playing on a console.

It would pretty much need an entire overhaul where they start from scratch to rebuild the game into something that works as a multiplatform console game.

Very little chance as it would mean less people would play the gacha version. DQ Walk has made over 2 billion USD in Japan alone in five years. A full priced console game would need to sell close to 30 million units to make that much. Missing Link could have 1/3rd of that success and still make more money than KH3.

I hate the predatory gacha stuff. But if it does well, maybe some of the money it makes will help bankroll more console games. (Probably won’t.)

This is one of the KH pop-up shops that will be open during October.

ML is obviously taking so long because they decided to transform it into a whole single player experience and it will be packaged in with Union X-remake. All the signs have been pointing towards this.

If they wanted a cheap gacha to make a tidy profit, make Disney Pixel RPG, put Sora in it. It's just such a weird world where that game exists, and KH is stuck in dev hell with a GPS gimmick.
