About the character crossover aspect, it's really only contained to Olympus and the HB crew tbh

And to be clear I wouldn't describe Verum Rex as being "subtle"... "Yozora" is literally "Noctis Caelum" but in another language. The only people who are supposed to see him and not think "oh, that's Noctis" are Square Enix executives, so I don't see why we should pretend otherwise.

Like, that was our last real game pre KH3 and it had that, why couldn't we expect BETTER from KH3? I'm gonna leave it at that because I seriously don't care to hash out years old arguments again
There's obviously a real divide here, and I'm not sure we're going to convince each other. Yozora isn't Cloud Strife or Squall Leonheart, or frankly, Noctis. Characters with similar DNA or unreleased products isn't what I'd want. I want Ashe and Lightning, the WoL, Terra, Balthier.
Other can want different things, which is totally fine! We're fans of the series for different reasons.

I think the difference is Noctis as a character actually exists in a way that us average people can see and know because we can play as him. Same for all the other FF characters. There's a sort of familiarity there.
Nobody except people who worked on Versus knows who Yozora (Versus Noctis) is and we certainly can't work it out either. For all intents and purposes he's practically a KH OC
I mean, he doesn't look like Noctis and he's not called Noctis. Yeah, their names mean the same thing, but if they introduced a blue haired guy with red eyes called Nube Lucha, I'm going to have a hard time transferring my feelings for Cloud to that guy.

I can acknowledge they’re using Versus XIII concepts within Kingdom Hearts now, but I personally don’t class that as including Final Fantasy itself.
I do hope there’s a lot of classic Disney animation as well as actual Final Fantasy representation in KH4 though

Yet I so often see people say that the KH versions of FF characters get their personalities all wrong - I don't always agree, but I can see it with KH Aerith (except in CoM). And certainly Tidus, Setzer, etc. stretch any sort of connection at all. Every FF character is always said to be "Nomura's KH version of that character". So in that regard I don't think there's a practical difference; it's just that in this case this being Nomura's KH version is actually plot relevant and acknowledged by the game.
And don't get me wrong - I have a mile long list of FF and other SE characters I badly want to see in KH... I just don't think the series has ever "abandoned" that aspect, it's just shifted focus a few times (TWEWY, Einhander, Versus XIII...) and will likely shift focus again. The real issue here is that Cloud and Squall's plot lines, which were actual plot threads, abruptly stopped. (They stopped a while before KH3, but still.) And I think that's an independent issue than "did they call him Noctis or Moctis".
Despite Midori have pretended to be someone else. it's not like he didn't get some things rights.

It's not hard to get things right when your big kh 'leaks' are shit like "it looks different since the first and only trailer" and "its targeting [late release everyone assumed it would hit]". like he's not performing leaks as an act of service, he's doing it to gain clout and a following and that just naturally leads a lot of these leaker types to start having to make bullshit up (as Midori apparently did, once they ran out of legit persona leaks and tried to court kh appeal).
on the topic of DDD's use of TWEWY characters, my stance has always been and always will be this; if they don't show up in gameplay they aren't part of the game. I feel the same about Disney characters to a certain extent, but with Square characters it feels even more like.. what the hell are you doing here if you're not going to be a boss fight or temporary party member?? I'm not a TWEWY fan but if I WAS a TWEWY fan I think I'd feel extremely betrayed by the fact that those characters never show up in the actual gameplay portion of the title

Well, I think most twewy fans were pleased to see these characters still existing, and getting to talk and be 3d for the first time and be part of the story and its themes. I don't think most people share your opinion on only the gameplay/combat mattering in this heavily story-focused series?

I don't think only gameplay matters, but it does enhance things. One of my fondest "SO COOL" memories from KH1 was getting absolutely annihilated by Leon in Traverse Town. The story didn't have to go on and on about how strong Leon was, you already knew.
I think that's the kind of experience Launchpad is pointing to.
I see no reason to give them a pass for completely half-assing the inclusion of these characters, but it's super cool that you're incorrectly painting my opinion with such a bold brush. never once did I say say that only gameplay matters in this series. I did say that they aren't part of the game, which.. they aren't. they're definitely in the scenes! and since it is your opinion that only the story matters in this heavily gameplay-focused series, I'm glad that's good enough for you.

Yeah I can see where that perspective is coming from, however since TWEWY is also a story driven game I was kind of fine with just watching those characters interact in cutscenes, alongside the parallels to TWEWY itself, rather than gameplay relation.
