I don’t think it being updated today means anything personally. Just shows they are actively working on the site.

But of course, I’m delulu and will keep an eye on 10pm JST since that’s around the time they posted the Missing Link teases last year. But I’m doing that mostly because today is the anniversary for UX, so maybe they’d post something today.

I think the site existing is a sign of something coming soon. But that it was updated today probably doesn’t mean much on its own. Would be nice if we could have seen when the last update was done.

I want to say they wouldn’t do us like that with Missing Link announced for 2024. Like they’d at least tell us the game was delayed. But then I remember the “news coming this winter” days of old.

I could see conventional worlds happening if Sora's not the one going to them. Like if half the game's Sora/Riku/Stritz in not-Tokyo and the other half was (for example) Kairi/Donald/Goofy searching Disney Worlds. Maybe play into the unreality factor by having Sora physically playing a KH game that exists in Quadranum that happens to be about KDG as the way to contextualize switching over to them.

Saw this earlier. Wouldn’t surprise me if he’s seeing the aesthetic of Scala in Missing Link and banking on it being in KH4 too. Or just straight up making stuff up. What would be even funnier is if someone traded him ML screenshots pretending they were KH4 in exchange for his Persona info. Lmao

I just genuinely don’t understand why the PR team for KH is so bad with this stuff, providing even the bare minimum. What exactly is stopping them from being more transparent? I love the way the FF7R team is handling sharing roadmaps and updates for their games. And it’s the same creative business unit within Square! (Or Creative Studio, I think they’re called now). Unless the Disney of it all is to blame.

For KH4, I really think it’s just the release timing and them waiting until 8-9 months before release to start full marketing. That isn’t exclusive to KH. Rebirth was the same way along with several other titles like Visions of Mana. VIIR Part 3 is just getting updates because we’re in the honeymoon phase for Rebirth. Once that media tour ends, it will go silent for a while.

Even if KH4 was releasing as early as August 2025, there’s a strong possibility we wouldn’t hear anything until the Game Awards. Or if it is planned for June 2025, we could hear about at TGS and still be in that marketing time frame.

Missing Link is another story. I think they’re just not going to say anything else at this point until pre-registration starts. And that could be delayed due to the game’s own issues or because they want to release it within a set time period ahead of KH4. For the latter option, they do that so they can do crossover stuff with the console releases before the mobile game fizzles out. We saw this with Ever Crisis, which released six months before Rebirth.

They may also want to plan Missing Link’s story updates around KH4’s release like we saw with UX and KH3. UX had so many long gaps between main story updates as a result and Nomura has already said he wants to avoid that this time.

Hmm, yeah, it might be very possible that Nomura already wrote scripts for ML that are meant to tie in with KH4... ergo one being delayed delays the other one. So which one is the problem game?

They're also still generally reusing plot points from FF (KH time travel works identical to FF8's version, for example)... I know it's less overt than "hey it's me cloud", but I think it's highly relevant.

As an aside, KH as a whole rips off a whole lot from FF8, it's kinda crazy tbh. But not that crazy when youbrelize FF8 was Nomura's baby.

The crux of the issue, then, is whether Kingdom Hearts can maintain its identity and appeal if it shifts away from these more recognizable crossovers in favor of subtler, more integrated Final Fantasy elements.
