The global version of FF: Brave Exvius shuts down on 10/30. Possibly freeing up server space for Missing Link?

Hopefully this is an oversight on the artist's end but is that a lack of a disc drive I'm noticing? 😰

It may just be two separate models like we currently have and they only saw the digital one.

Why shouldn't they? Name me any other franchise where the story requires you to do so?
There ARE other series with story bits in awful gacha games, some of which are dead. You could say those aren't as "required", but I'd argue neither is UX, yet. The hope is just the nvidia leak pulls through and Re:UX gets made before it becomes important. But I wouldn't be surprised if Square Enix's president cancelled that.

DQ Monsters: The Dark Prince is coming to Steam and mobile devices on 9/11. A week before FFXVI releases on PC. So that still leaves that release gap between FFXVI and Life is Strange. Also nice to see full console games ported to mobile. Would much prefer that over gachas.

Really warms my heart to see the musicians of KH like Utada and Shimomura get the deserve and love they deserve.

Good point. A PS5 Pro would have to introduce a lotta good features for me not to turn my nose up at it. Wouldn't be too surprised if it was digital only though. Would be a great way for people to buy that disc drive add-on they introduced for digital-only PS5s a while ago.

Shoot, maybe they're actually doing my Days/ReCoded/UX/DR collection idea.
I feel like UX and Dark Road can reuse the mobile game's assets, the gameplay would be the same except the difficulty will be like normal turned based games

Maybe UX and Dark Road could also get some cutscenes in KH3's style for certain moments

Re:Coded is kinda connected to UX with the whole Data Realm so it'd kinda fit in a collection

For Days they could add a secret ending that shows Isa & Lea meeting Subject X

I'm of the opinion you can get by just fine with no knowledge of X/Unchained/Union Cross/Back Cover. Controversial but there it is.

The black box plot thread gets a cutscene in the Re:coded movie, and is also just a B plot that doesn't even get resolved in this game. The foretellers, well, its just a plot hook for the next saga, no different to the prior secret endings that had no context at all to go with them. I suppose the only thing that helps is knowing who Luxu is, that would be the only necessary thing imo, and it's included in a console collection at least.

Even Strelitzia being in the trailer doesn't mean knowledge of UX is necessary. KH3 treaded over all its most basic plot threads plenty of times within the game itself that frankly, I think you could probably play that as a standalone and get some decent understanding of the basic story. I have no doubt they won't do the same for KH4, which has plot threads coming in from games way less accessible than KH2-3D.

You could get by doing whatever you want, but I think KH3 was written extremely aware of what was in Back Cover and what wasn't (entirely because it's a work they actually released that you can buy and watch). Luxu, the box, and even MoM are specifically Back Cover things (pretty sure they all appeared there before showing up in the f2p games), and those are the bits that are important; the Foretellers + Ephemer are also both in Back Cover. There's no point in all of KH3 where you'd ever go "who?" or "what?" if you've only seen Back Cover. The only major exceptions are in the Secret Reports, which are made for fans to go discuss and analyze anyway.

Which is maybe all obvious to say but idk if people think about how deliberate that was, especially people who don't really care about all that stuff or think Back Cover is just cutscenes from the game or something

I don't think the X Saga is going to be like "must play to understand anything in the present storyline". As others have pointed out, they are very aware that a lot of people won't have played the mobile games that's why everything in the X saga is essentially in like a 'backstory' type of stage (heck even KHx's like biggest finale twist gets unceremoniously recapped and explained in a couple lines in Dark Road lol). And because Sora also don't know anything about the X Saga, there will always be lots of opportunities for the relevant stuff to be explained/introduced to both him and casual players.

The issue I see, aside from just general game preservation stuff and the fact that actually experiencing it will always lead to a fuller and richer appreciation, is that Missing-Link is explicitly meant to be a finale to the KHx Saga, a saga that only really contains like 3 titles and now 2/3 of those are just completely gone and inaccessible in all official ways and the only one left is a movie. Like I sure hope this is just temporary/they have a real solution coming, because like, while I don't presume KHUx+ is necessary to 'get' KHIV and more, I sure think they'll be necessary to truly deliver on a finale to their own stories and mysteries lol???

Mayyyyyybe they’re gonna do a thing in ML where the Player character gradually regains their memories of the Ux era, and they slowly release the Ux story again through ML as flashback scenarios/events? I mean, Ever Crisis has multiple ongoing scenarios between base FF7, CC, First Solider etc.

Honestly seems more likely than actually getting a console remake or even just an HD cutscene compilation, IMO

Idk about DR tho

I don’t think so since there’s no version of the game on PS5 that comes with the DLC. It’d just be the standard edition.

this is a very fucking generic point of view but current events have really reinforced it... it'd be really nice if Kingdom Hearts games would go back to introducing characters and plot points in major games, as well as resolving established plot points and character stories. I don't think I should be made to feel like an ungrateful snob because I want to understand and appreciate the characters that Nomura comes up with in a grander context than cheaply animated cutscenes and battles that are determined by flinging a PNG of Abu the monkey or Mr. Smee at the screen. If these characters and this setting is that important to Nomura, it'd be nicer to meet them in a real game and not an info dump movie or a YouTube video.

I love Kingdom Hearts on a visceral level but a lot of Kingdom Hearts doesn't feel real to me

Apparently SE is asking creators to take down the leaked KH3 development footage. Might want to save it if you want to view it later.

Also, the studio that developed Visions of Mana is being shut down. They are owned by NetEase, but still not a good look for SE.

We got Sony revoking access to Final Fantasy XVI after it was accidentally shadowdropped on PlayStation Premium before Missing-Link released.
