Not gonna lie the drought makes me feel increasingly more distant from the franchise for some reason. I really hope we'll get something soon

Looks like an Epic Mickey Rebrushed demo is coming for anyone looking to scratch the Disney itch. Guessing it will be at tomorrow’s Direct.

Once this, Visions of Mana, and Disney Pixel RPG are all released, I think we’ll have a better chance of some KH news. Throw Star Wars Outlaws in there as well since it’s also Disney IP.

What about TGS?

There haven’t been any big reveals from SE at TGS itself in recent years. Usually the reveal happens a week or two beforehand. The timing is still heavily influenced by the proximity to TGS though as they’ll usually go on to have panels, demos, and play the trailer at their booth. So people suggesting we could get a trailer next month because of TGS aren’t wrong. It just isn’t likely to be revealed there.

Even outside of SE, an example is Death Stranding which will likely be in the State of Play prior to the panel and demo being at TGS.

I feel like lumping a bunch of stuff unrelated KH into the barrel of "Things that need to come out first before we can have a better chance at news" isn't really ideal. Like yeah, they're Disney stuff but they have no bearing on KH as a series or its news cycle.

Ironic coming from me, the guy who cynically talks about how FF7R would do just that.

On the topic of Disney RPG, anyone interested in playing it will be disappointed to learn that the estimated release date has been pushed back from September 9th to October 7th.

They absolutely do. Disney has said they coordinate with their developer partners to ensure they don’t interfere with each other as much as possible.

  • As projects get underway, Disney designates release windows to avoid having games in similar franchises stepping on each other. What if partner A is running late and at risk of colliding with partner B? "Everybody's running late," Shoptaw quipped, before saying that lateness is often no one's fault and something Disney tries to accommodate with all affected partners. "We do a lot of air traffic control," he said.

I also didn’t say they need to come out for us to get news. But once they are, it definitely gives a better chance for KH showing up. It’s just simple process of elimination of titles the two companies have to market.

making missing link a mobile game is the dumbest mistake they did so far. we legit could've had a new console spinoff instead with how much time missing link is taking.... but square enix and common sense do not match.
And it could've still been free to play too, I feel like there'd be a larger playerbase if it's on pc & consoles as well

Hopefully they advertise the game because the advertising hasn't been great. An appearance at Gamescom for example would make more people aware of it's existence

It's a shame everyone's burned on it, but personally the one cool thing ML has going for it is the fact that it's geolocation. Like, a KH handheld title built around the unique aspects of the platform? it's been over a decade since we got that vibe. It's old-KH energy and I love it.

Given how expensive developing home console games is currently, they probably thought it wasn't worth the investment. In addition to that I'm under the impression the general public would frown upon a new non-numbered title since the previous portable side games already have the reputation of "making the story convoluted", so they probably wouldn't be willing to spend 60 dollars on it.

If any of what I said above is at least a little bit close to reality, it would make sense to push a free mobile game with microtransactions and gacha mechanics instead. Now, as many have stated in this thread before, Missing Link is looking to be much more expensive to develop than UX ever was, so only time (and whales) will tell if it was worth it after all.

I know it was mixed, but given that ML is the finale of the X saga, I wish ML kept the KHUX/Dark Road art style for consistency's sake but that's just a minor nitpick.

anyone remember Larxene012?

Pepperidge Farm remembers.

Anyways I do kinda wish they just went the Genshin route. Console/PC/Mobile from the jump.

I can definitely see what you mean. It'd be nice if there were at least some sort of nod to the KHUx artstyle in ML (I did appreciate the small usage in KH3, thought that was very cute). It's wild thinking about how its run lasted 10 full years (half the series!) and now we might never see it used again. Maybe they should do Avatar Kingdom 2.0 for KHML and they can be used for minigames or something lol.

Umm…

Already has a confirmed release window of Spring 2025 too…

Looks like a beta starts on 9/26, so I doubt Missing Link would launch around that time.

Here’s a trailer:

I just don’t get why ML exists in this format when both Disney and SE will have their own geolocation games between this and DQ Walk. If it weren’t for this game likely being in development for a while as well, I would be concerned if Missing Link is even still happening.
