They’re revealing the Fortnite x Star Wars season on Sunday. So it’s still possible for more news.

I don’t think it’s likely, but still possible. Yesterday, they showed a Monopoly Go collab and Star Wars Beyond Victory as surprise announcements. Small projects, but at least has some precedent for some surprise video game announcements. They also announced Star Wars Outlaws for Switch 2.

it's funny to me (having tried speedstorm once) how different the landscape feels with kart racers nowadays compared to kart racers of yester-year. I think back in the day I was a bit more thrilled to be able to play a racing game that had Kermit the Frog, or the Nicktoons, or Shrek or some shit in it. It's super charming to be able to see race-track versions of locations you're familiar with, and see all the characters you love driving around...

But certain games (Mario Kart, Crash Team Racing, Sonic All Stars Transformed) have just decimated the playing field. It's so tough to go back to a racer that doesn't mechanically measure up and feels like dogshit to drive in. The fanciness of the elite-class of kart racers has a permanent effect. If you can't drift boost, trick, and do cool movement tech, it ultimately feels like you're just playing a less engaging experience for the sole purpose of seeing racers and environments you're more familiar with.

That being said, they'd get my ass with a Kingdom Hearts racing game, OBVIOUSLY! it could suck as hard as rumble racing and I'd still want to rep my favorite characters in the short-lived quickly-abandoned online mode. Half as long, twice as bright, baby!!!

I don’t think it’s happening at this point. The closing ceremony is likely just going to recap the previous announcements, etc. It’s only like 30 minutes long and they’ll probably be announcing the next Celebration location.

That said, with May/June being the Fortnite x Star Wars season, it would be a good time to fully reveal the Star Wars world sometime in the next two months.

Basically, piggyback off that Star Wars zeitgeist energy. It looks like the season roadmap is wrapping around the time of State of Unreal and SGF with an end of season narrative event. So as that’s hitting its peak and those Fortnite players are high on SW content, show them one of the next big AAA games to feature Star Wars.

Not sure why it wouldn’t work. Of course, whether KH4 actually resurfaces depends on where development is at. But if they are going to reveal it at one of the upcoming events and just have to decide which world to show, Star Wars would be a good choice while there’s excitement around the franchise with the Fortnite collab, Andor Season 2, Tales of the Underworld, etc.

I don’t expect them to reveal Jedi 3 until Zero Company next year since Respawn is involved with both. But there’s also Star Wars Eclipse, KOTOR remake, and Amy Hennig’s untitled project in the works.

Honestly, if they wanted, Disney could do their own gaming showcase to show a mix of those projects, KH, Marvel 1943, their Fortnite metaverse, etc. But I doubt they’d do that outside of D23. They could show the ones developed in UE5 at State of Unreal though now that they have a financial stake in Epic.

I don’t think it would work because this idea is based on Square Enix and Disney trying to coordinate a marketing campaign to leverage off several other marketing campaigns. It’s very easy for something to slip and dates need to change and then the cross media synergy with players finishing a Star Wars x Fortnite season is gone.

And then there’s also the idea that if anyone is hyped from a Star Wars season of Fortnite to move on to get hyped over another game, I don’t envision kingdom hearts to be the one to grasp people. I think an actual proper Star Wars game would, hence why I said Jedi 3. And if it’s not a new game that they’d go for, it’s definitely one of the many that have been released in the last decade.

Not to mention this also all goes on the assumption that Star Wars is going to be the first world focused on unveiling. That’s been the assumption made a lot based on the glimpse of the foot that may or may not have been intentionally included. They may want to have Star Wars world be a later reveal in their plans. They might want to have their first trailer back be Quadratum focused again, they might want to showcase a proper Disney world first, who knows!

I just find the idea of Square Enix piggybacking off of other Star Wars successes to be a bit of a flawed plan because it's too risky overall. Any Star Wars moment shown in the game will likely be big regardless of if there's a showcase, a Fortnite collab, whatever. I think they can hold that card for another time and get a real big boost when it's a lot closer to release.

Anyways that's all. Whatever will happen will happen and I really won't care for anything until Square Enix decides to actually show up, so I'll always be on the side of "ehrm probably not" . I will actually start feeling a bit panicked if there's nothing for 4 or Missing-Link by end of August.

Gotcha. Just to be clear though, I didn’t mean to suggest that SE/Disney would be coordinating their plans solely around the Fortnite thing or any other stuff. But I can see how it could have been read that way.

As you said, it’s going to be a big moment regardless of when it happens. But if everything else falls into place for a reveal between now and June, the buzz around other Star Wars projects could help boost it even more. For example, more people will be searching Star Wars content as a result of the upcoming releases. So the algorithms would likely suggest that KH x Star Wars trailer and news articles, which could catch their interest. Basically, it would be icing on the cake for them… if said cake is already prepped and ready to serve.

But there’s also a fair argument to be made that they may see the zeitgeist as being over-saturated with SW stuff. So maybe it’d be better to wait until people are hungry for more Star Wars rather than after they’ve just been fed. Lol

I expect the Disney world reveals will go in whatever order we visit them in the game. That’s how KH3 handled it for the most part. Big Hero 6 was the main exception, but it was still the last saw footage for. I’m personally hoping they’re splitting SW up into 2-3 story segments. One with Tatooine and the other 1-2 with Endor/Death Star, assuming it’s based on RotJ. That way we can get a little Star Wars early on and then get Vader as an endgame boss. In that scenario, they could show Tatooine in the re-reveal and then Endor/Death Star in one of the final trailers. They could save the Vader reveal for the latter to still get that big final marketing boost.

I could see a world like Moana get revealed first or if Lilo & Stitch is in the game...they'd do that because if we get a trailer in June it's close enough to the live action movie's release.

But I feel like we should see more Quadratum before seeing any other Disney Worlds. I want to know about Sora's room that's supposed to be the HQ of the game, can we customize his room with collectibles from the different disney worlds? That would be cool
