Gosh I dunno. The first I played was 10. None of the main titles are actually related story wise so you can really start anywhere :p

I have played 4, 5, 7, 10, 12, and 13. I enjoyed them all :) I have also played the sequels and prequels that go with them minus the sequel to 12. All of which I enjoyed as well.

it really doesn't matter.

i'd start with 10, it's one of the easier ones in terms of learning how to manage an FF party and it has a beautiful storyline.

plus i mean...blitzball...you have to get your hands on that.

I prefer you wait until the HD version of 10 comes out, it would be a waste of money if you buy 10 today, then buy again when the HD version is released

yes put off the $10 game purchase until it is $50 because obviously the graphics are what make final fantasy x worth playing

>_>

I didn't mean anything when I said to wait for the HD version, it just seems more realistic, because lets be honest, if you'd buy the game today and love it, you'll just end up buying the HD version sooner or later. Its just more practical to wait.

Well if that's the case....i'd assume FF9 is the next easiest option...and it's downloadable via the PSN network. It has a decent story, and the graphics are still on par to that of many current PSP games.

Plus for the most part, it's pretty light hearted, and has a lot more humor in comparison to a lot of the more current FF's

^^^That and IX plays homage to literally every Final Fantasy before it.

I think 10 is a good place to start for a Kingdom Hearts fan.

When you get to your -next- Final Fantasy, just keep in mind that the games are generally different with a few thematic similarities.

I've gotta agree with Decrith on this lol they're just gonna play the game, love it, and then want the HD version. May as well wait a bit.

I can see where you two are going with this, but in this case I have to side with Reflection. Paying $10 for FFX is nothing. Sure, he could wait for the HD version when we know next to nothing about it, with no screenshots released and no solid release date. It's uncertain how long he'll have to wait just to try Final Fantasy.

I don't recommend waiting simply based on that. Better for him to just get FFX cheap, and get started on the franchise than to wait for the HD version. There's a lot of games, and it would be wiser to do this now.

why would this make it a good first final fantasy then

you would not get any of the references

This. Those references/inside jokes would go unappreciated. Though IX is my favorite, is Hironobu Sakaguchi's closest interpretation of his vision of Final Fantasy, contains Nobuo Uematsu's favorite score, and a million and a half different reasons why you should get around to this game, I simply do not think it would make for the best first Final Fantasy. I suppose all previous titles would seem like a reference to FFIX, but that's not right.

IV is a classic all around. If you have a DS (or are getting a 3DS for Dream Drop Distance), pick up FF4. Memorable characters, great story, great music, portability=yes and a you get a strong impression of what other FFs have in store for you. If by "starting off with" you mean you want an easier difficulty setting, I seemed to whiz right through X. I don't recall any particularly difficult portions of the game where I was stuck, unlike some of the others.

Let us know which one you choose! :)

VII, probably. It's an eternal classic that is one of those games that everyone in the world should play at some point, along with Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Others to consider are IV, VI, XII and Tactics WOTL.

If i were you i would start off with Final Fantasy X and then go to FF XII and XIII, and after that i would go back and play some of the older classics like FFVII and FFVIII.

VII or X. I'd personally go with VII. It was a good introduction into the world of Final Fantasy for me and my cousin. It got us to fall in love with the series. If you want one that will dig its roots into your gamer side, I'd say X would probably be better.

Although if you go with four, it is much more difficult than most games. Prepare to scream. A lot. Especially at the end where you will die over and over
