(War of the Fey)
It started then, the otherworldly beings were at war with each other. Humans were caught in the middle of their quarreling, and there was nothing that humans could do to stop it. Some tried to fight; others hid inside and prayed that it’d be over soon. They prayed that the blood would stop being spilled, both the blood of the guilty and the blood of the innocent.
Then to everyone’s surprise, a young child was the one to put the fighting to an end. They didn’t win through brute force, which would have been impossible for the child to do given the circumstances. Instead they begged the leaders of the opposing forces, including using a certain set of words to bind the creatures to their promises. The stolen items would be returned to the warring creatures and they would retreat back to their realm.
But humans still had to pay a heavy toll; the child was stolen from them. The child was brought into the otherworld to live with the creatures that nearly destroyed the child’s village. At first the people grieved for the child, they grieved for months only to eventually come to the understanding that it was for the best. Even the child’s parents understood that it was needed in order to keep the peace.
Only for the grief to reemerge when the creatures returned and demanded another offering. This pattered continued every year after, the village was forced to pay tribute to the creatures to keep them from coming back through. The creatures seemed to enjoy the misery of the village, preying on it and using it to their advantage. The King of the Unseelie court especially seemed to approve of the misery. His queen however didn't, she grieved for the humans because of her husband's cruelty, despite supposedly needing to be cruel herself. Not that she was entirely peaceful, but she hated needless cruelty.
Especially when it comes to her court. The queen is probably more fearsome than the king when her court is endangered.
Despite feeling sorry for them, the queen of the Unseelie court allowed her subjects to continue ravaging the village. The king ordered them switch to a different village as the years rolled on, exposing the fairy realm and forcing other villages to give them a villager in order to keep them from destroying it during the summer and winter solstice.
They though know they aren't the only ones getting the offerings, their enemies are getting the human sacrifices as well. This has led to war breaking out between the two clans of creatures warring with each other every few years to try and establish which one is more dominant.
This on again-off again war has continued for 500 hundred years. Or at least since the 1800s.
Okay, I don't know why I'm posting this here. But if I can get some critic on it, thanks. Anyway, I hope you all enjoy it.
