is the VBA a suitable emulator for GB and GBA patches and hacks? I have attempted to use it for this purpose, but have found no success. If someone could clarify how to do it if possible, or a more suitable emulator if it is not possible, I would be much obliged.

You probably have to have the most updated versions for hacks but patches should work.

Your VBA sucks then. I've always been able to run patches and hacks on my VBA. redownload.

Regarding the hacks, there should be a built-in Gameshark/Codebreaker under VBA's options (you know, where you can open the roms manually or configure gamepads, etc., that bar at the top of the window with the options).
