dudes i could be totally wrong but you should read this

In the 2008 TGS Birth By Sleep trailer, Master Xehanort was quoted saying to Ven, "Those that submit to darkness are not qualified to wield the Keyblade. Already, that man is a monster infused by darkness. Use your power to defeat the darkness and correct my mistake."
While most believe this to be Xehanort messing with Ven and speaking of his friend Terra, I believe Xehanort to be speaking of Vanitas. Because as Xehanort is sayign this in the trailer theyre showing Vanitus alot of the time.
I think that while Xehanort was out adventuring within the darkness he unlocked the darkness in his heart in the for of Vanitus. This could be the reason why vanitas is able to materialize from Xehanort. Xehanort starts to "train" Vanitus but it could be that it's jsut a way of him harboring his darkness and honing it making it a powerful weapon.
Being Vanitus seems to be a character who can use words against you beign he's the reason Ven chases after Terra saying he'd never see him again. I think he could be running the show after a while. Perhaps becoming too powerful and twisting Xehanorts heart, using him as a puppet.
Another thing that I've come to think about is what if Vanitus is the boy that falls into radiant garden with no recollection of where he's from taking the name of Xehanort. He could be taking his Master's name for his own so he can truly become the master. After being taken under Ansem the Wises wing however he finds maybe that Ansem is an even better master than Xehanort was taking Ansem's name and casting away his old master's name.
I also think that maybe over the ten years the new Xehanort matures showing that he's getting stronger, but does not truly age. This could mean that the heartless Ansem is really just Vanitus as he has gotten powerful over time in strength and knowledge.
This theory could also possibly explain why when Xehanort has control over Riku his armor looks similar to Vanitus's. Vanitus/Xehanort could possibly have taken Riku on as a sort of apprentice. A successor of darkness maybe; trying to harbor and train the darkness in his heart. Then in the time period of 1 year Riku learns to control his darkness and gives in taking the form of the older Vanitus/Xehanort showing that he has grown in strength and is capable of great power.

but idk i was really baked and thought of all of that so talk about it

No. It takes a strong heart to wield the keyblade not just darkness. Vanitas whoever he is is a person with a real heart body and soul.

The whole Vanitas=Xehanort thing is possible but highly unlikely.

You have to take into consideration that he heartless and nobody of Xehanort take on a dominate side of who he is made up of.
One side definately being MX and the other is Terra most likely.
Vanitas is most likely the guardian.

Well, i read a post about Richard Epcar voicing Xehanort, so that means he might appear as a different person.
May not be true, may be meant to indicate Vanitas, to kill the association of:
Richard Epcar -> Xehanort
Richard Epcar -> Vanitas
Vanitas = Xehanort

Sorry, this might seem totally off topic but if Vanitas does end up being Xehanort, it could be that Xemnas can't wield a Keyblade since he doesn't have a heart.

Didn't read through the other posts, sorry. D:

That's what I have been thinking! Everyone is like 'Then Xemnas would be able to wield' uhhh, no! He has no heart!
Roxas on the other hand clearly does have a heart or some form. Personally, I think it is Ven's but you never know...
So yeah, Xehanort can be any keyblade wielder. Or his past form (Terra, Terra+MX, Vanitas whatever!)

No.There is no indication given that an part of Xehanort takes on a dominate trait.

I think it's much more likely that HJO will voice Vani. I still don't really see the whole Vanitas = Xeha deal when he's so short. XD;;

The fact that it seems that Roxas seemingly has a heart (could be Ven's due to his appearance). Which (if having a heart is a requirement for wielding a Keyblade) would mean he could wield the Keyblade. Then again, we wouldn't be able to tell, because there aren't (as far as we know) any examples of Nobodies with hearts whose Others weren't Keyblade users. The same goes for examples of Nobodies without hearts whose Others were Keyblade users.

Quick question: when Xion lost the ability to use the Keyblade, was that because of a lack of memories/memory flow being altered?

i dont feel comfortable revealing that information

its true that he's short, but if that's your logic then Xehanort can't be Terra because Terra is too tall an MX is too old so if any of them are Xehanort then darkness has to be able to completely change your physical appearance

Actually they're just about the same size.

Maybe, but you are correct that no one the way they are seen at the start of BBS could be Xehanort (Except Aqua and I'm even going to say Master Erauqs can't either). Something has to happen that changes them.

I think Vanitas=Xehanort is higly possible.
Evidence?
The fact that it seems that Roxas seemingly has a heart (could be Ven's due to his appearance). Which (if having a heart is a requirement for wielding a Keyblade) would mean he could wield the Keyblade.
No. There can be 2 possibilities. Having a strong heart is a requirement to wield a Keyblade but your nobody can "inherit" that ability from your somebody. Roxas can wield a Keyblade because he either has a heart himself or because he "inherits" this ability from Sora. Nomura said that Roxas can Duel Wield because of Sora. Everything Roxas has, Sora has because he "inherits" those abilites from him because he is his nobody.

Nomura: -In the KH series there are a lot of complex reasons why someone can use a keyblade, but basically you need a “heart” to be able to wield one. So strictly speaking, they are being influenced by Sora. At the present I can’t say more than that, since it would go into whether or not Roxas has a heart. And there is also a part that has to do with Xehanort’s memories.
Quick question: when Xion lost the ability to use the Keyblade, was that because of a lack of memories/memory flow being altered?
Nomura explained this.

As far as we know darkness doesn't change your physical appearence completely to a different height. Xehanort has the same height as his nobody and heartless and they were both associated with darkness in a way.

The only reason why the darkness changed Riku's physical appearence is because of Xehanort's heart.

No what makes Roxas any different from Xemnas.
Roxas might have a heart heart while Xemnas doesn't.

youre all saying that vanitus is too short to be xehanort. but as i said, he could have grown symbolizing the growth in dark power. that or by absorbing xehanort he became more powerful and wiser but still younger
