In the midst of the starry night, there was only darkness. One by one, the stars were being plucked from the sky. This city belonged to to an older world, perhaps the first, the beginning of beginnings. The people here knew nothing of it's origins, they'd come only to know this place as there home and this to be as it has always been. Radiant Garden, a cesspool of growth and place where a street rat could work their way into a well-off citizen.
The night itself felt long, once the sun departed and the people retreated into their homes. The castle town was quite large, housed many, nothing to unique from citizen to citizen. There elected a pair that resided here, that innocently watched the stars every single night without fail. A much older woman, a very young lass, perhaps no older than four or five. Red hair, blue eyes, soft spoken and shy, she was a rare beauty among the children here. Accompanied by a much older woman, one would imagine nearing the end of their cycle, towards the range of mid 70s, but with a smile that was warm enough to thaw even the coldest of glaciers.
"Another light went out. What does that mean Grandma?" the young girl speaking with frailty and innocence to a much older woman.
The old woman clutched her hand, she held it within her palm. You couldn't see here eyes, but they way her cheek bones curved under felt like the sun resting comfortably on a hill. It was inviting, it was gentle, and it could be trusted. Here she finally spoke to the child.
"Do you remember the story dear?" she said, as she slowly opened her eyes. "When the people fight over the light a darkness is born. Over time it becomes too great a threat to ignore and it eventually takes the very light that gave birth to it."
Hesitation wasn't found in her voice, she was resonating with the light of truth. Giving her granddaughter even further perspective, as they peered up at the night sky. The street lights dimmed, the light from the sun had just moved beyond the horizon, and they could see all of the stars.
"One day you'll leave this world Kairi dear. You've an important destiny ahead of you, I've no doubt that you will forget, so impress the memory on your heart instead." The old woman rest her hand upon her head. "Your home will fall, your heart will disappear, and the advent of calamity will be averted by the one who can bridge the ocean and the sky."
A smile appeared, as if she'd seen it in a vision. This smile was akin to that of a mask perhaps, it was almost as if this old woman was more than familiar with things of this nature taking place.
"You may forget dear, but if you remember, never tell anyone else. I've been around...for a very long time. I've trained many spry, ambitious, and even questionable young men and women in a sacred art. They...are my dandelions." a tear rolled from her cheek and brushed from the right, dripping a single tear onto Kairi's hand.
"Preserve that hope dear. All worlds, share the same sky. One Sky. One Destiny. Never forget this." firmly pressing her hand, the old woman escorted Kairi into their small home before the sky grew darker.
