So the bible says to turn the other cheek, to always let others harm you without retaliation.

But obviously this isn't the case... it's human instinct to survive, and I can only think of a select few religious figures who actually hold true to the other cheek principle. So here are some questions:

1. Is it right to kill in war?
2. Is it right to kill someone seriously threatening your own life?
3. Is it right to "mercy kill" someone who wants to die?
4. is it right to "mercy kill" someone who is alive but braindead, and cannot state whether they want to live or not?

1. Sure, it's war
2. Only if they harm you first, threats aren't enough to warrent action on your part
3. Nah, let them do it themselves
4. Yeah, if they're braindead then it's a waste of money keeping them alive

1. Is it right to kill in war? <---- Yes

2. Is it right to kill someone seriously threatening your own life? <--- Yes

3. Is it right to "mercy kill" someone who wants to die? <--- Depends. If its a criminal that wants to die, chop his nads off and make him live. If its just some random person, no. Let them kill themselves. You just watch =D

4. is it right to "mercy kill" someone who is alive but braindead, and cannot state whether they want to live or not? <--- Sure. Its not like the brain dea person is gonna care =/

Killing is never "right." That's why war is bad.

4. is it right to "mercy kill" someone who is alive but braindead, and cannot state whether they want to live or not?

The only thing trying to doing anything to keep a vegetable alive are machines. The brain (you know, what makes the "person" that people refer to) is dead. When the brain is gone, the person is lost. They are already dead, so you can't kill them.

Hm, here's another situation I thought of... capital punishment.

5. Is it right to punish murderers by killing them?

Why give them that freedom? I'd rather have them suffer in life in a cold, disgusting jail cell while being butt raped by Bubba

So the bible says to turn the other cheek, to always let others harm you without retaliation.

Haha, actually.... The phrase "Turn the other cheek" when mentioned in the bible has a completely different meaning. It's in accordance to a gesture: when you slap someone with your backhand, that signified that the one being disciplined is inferior, but when you "turn the other cheek" (they only used their left hand for these "unclean" purposes) they would have no choice but to slap with an open-palm, the gesture that says "I am your equal". So it displayed something more defiant, rather than taking it in the stink pipe like a pacifist.

Of course, yours is the more common dialogue verbatim, good bait for fundamentalists.

I'm pretty sure just about everything in the bible can be taken multiple ways except "Jesus wept."

And the point is you're still getting slapped twice when you could have knocked a couple of the slapper's teeth out instead :)

Christianity was originally formed out of Judaism, through the words of Jesus and his teachings creating a kinder god that developed codes of conduct for Christians based on love. Christianity's concept lies within trusting and loving god. The way Christianity creates ethics is by telling others to follow Jesus' example, which are shown in the holy scriptures, The Gospels. In the New Testament, Jesus depicted love and forgiveness as more important then obedience to law. The parable is obviously a good example of this; Jesus tells his followers to love their enemies, and so if that enemy slaps you, turn the other cheek, Jesus stated, ''Ye have heard that it was said an eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: but I say unto you, resist not him that is evil: But whosever smiteth thoe on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.'' (Mathew 5:39) Jesus' central message to Christians is to have love for everyone, including strangers as well as god.

The message here is plain and simple, Jesus was anti-war, but ever since Roman catholic, this message has been long forgotten...

So, when a country is being attacked and its citizens slaughtered, you say Christianity teaches to allow the murder, rape and pillaging to continue?

According to the old testament, no, you go out and kill that godless hoard. According to the new, yes, you love your neighbor even if he wallops your head off, and you forgive him for doing so.

The old testament, again, would say go kill thsoe damned heathens. The new testament would proclaim to assist those being violated but not to harm the violators.

Jesus was a man who died for what he believed him, I think that Jesus wanted others to follow this concept, and if you were to die of murder, you would die believing in the faith of Jesus. Died for what you believed in.
