the only thing that bigs me a little is the ME and MX are supposed to be around the same age but one sounds old and one sounds pretty young.

Maybe that's supposed to be symbolic? Like, since MX is obsessed with darkness and stuff he looks/sounds older, and ME didn't use darkness, so he aged normally.

I'm telling you, Master Xehanort smokes darkness everyday.

As for Eraqus... he's a church priest who runs a church on worshipping light. In their belief, they consider smoking darkness to be notty and illegal.

Since when has darkness affected age. The only hints are with Xigbar's white hair and that could just be him getting older.

xD Exactly! That's why I think MX's physical state represents how his mind's been tainted by darkness. ME is normal and looks his age, unlike MX, who looks a lot older.

That's....Actually a glaring plothole.

The only real confusing part coming about the series is 3DS. And that looks like it going to clusterf*** the fans hard.

The thing is... I really don't trust the US voice direction enough to assume they'd be able to pull the same thing off. =/ I mean, according to Quentin Flynn, they don't tell the VAs much about character motivation and such... which would be kind of important to pull off a bait-and-switch. The only way it'd work is if the actor himself understood Terra's character despite the lack of help, and even then it's unlikely he'd have experience playing that kind of character. It's probably safer to choose someone whose voice is naturally closer to the sweet and awkward image they want Terra to have.

This reason alone is PRECISELY why I think they should fire the current director and get the voice director who directed Kingdom Hearts 1 back (and the man's still getting work too). The dubs after Kingdom Hearts 1 aren't bad, but they aren't as special as KH1, or as good as it.

This doesn't mean that the director can't put an insight in here, or too, but just let alone that possibly the VA director let the VA's do a bit of their own rendition for their characters.

Actually as being a theater class/university voice class student: When your normally give a script, if your lucky you usually get to do a cold reading of what you interpret of your character. This doesn't mean that the director can't put an insight in here, or too, but just let alone that possibly the VA director let the VA's do a bit of their own rendition for their characters.

In an interview with Quinton Flynn (I believe it's on an old episode of a KH podcast), he said that they don't reveal much about the characters before they go into the studio - hell, usually when they're recording, each actor is usually recording alone. For example, say in a scene between Axel and Xion, Quinton would be alone in the recording booth; Allison Stoner wouldn't be in there doing the scene with him. The director steps in if need be, but usually he lets the VAs do their own rendition in terms of character. I think someone said on here that they never even showed Richard Epcar clips of Billy Zane as Ansem before he went into the studio, thus his rendition of Ansem was a little different from Zane's; all the VAs do the best they can with what little they're given. Voice acting is usually a little more difficult than stage or screen, because at least then you're given more to work with and the director is usually more involved. So if you're not really used to voice acting but more used to doing stage or screen work, it can be an incredibly challenging job. Just something to take into consideration before you declare that someone's VA sucks; sometimes it's not their fault - they're either not used to it and/or the director isn't all that helpful.

I dunno, I think KH1's voice acting kind of gets put through a nostalgia filter, since it was made so long ago. =/ I remember the first time I went back and watched a clip from it on Youtube, I thought I'd accidentally clicked on a fandub instead because Riku sounded so monotone - and David Gallagher has been doing a great job for Riku ever since, so it doesn't seem like it's the actor's fault.

Being allowed to interpret the character isn't bad. I'm just not sure that the VAs know enough about the characters in the first place to be able to create a consistent interpretation. =/

Not to mention, there's a limit to how far the VAs' renditions can be from the original intention, and it's probably a lot lower in KH than it would be in a show where the animation was matched to the voices, or something that wasn't quite so good at showing exactly how the characters are feeling. And there's also the fact that KH isn't finished, so there might be things about the characters that the actors couldn't possibly know without being told that could add to their character (kind of like how, for the Harry Potter movies, J. K. Rowling told Alan Rickman a whole ton of stuff about Snape that no one else knew, so he knew how to portray the character).

I think the fans in North America are very passionate about the games they like, whether it's KINGDOM HEARTS or something else. I was at Nintendo's press conference today, and you could tell everyone was so excited when KINGDOM HEARTS for 3DS was announced. You rarely see that kind of emotional outburst in Japan. Because fans in North America express their excitement in a very straight-forward manner, it makes me want to add more special content to make them even more excited.

Right, but usually depending on the order of character recording when your recording you get to hear the other VA's in one your scenes (If you have one in their in the first place) to usually interpret your reaction to the other in the right tone.

I liked ricard Epcar performance as Ansem. Sure it was different than Zan, but it still fit Ansem well.

Agreed. KH1's acting was rather good, but not the best out there. To be honest, I found the acting in Re:CoM to be the best of all the games. KH1 comes second in that aspect, imho.

In terms of the voices themselves I'll agree with you on Re:COM. Larxene, Lexeaus and Zexion sounded EXACTLY how I imagined them too. I imagined Vexen to sound more annoying but I felt his voice was decent. The problem with the dub was that they were too lazy to re-synch the lines so the actors had to give their best attempt to lip synch the lines which would explain awkward dialogue like Axel saying "Key-Blade Mas-Ter.

I actually didn't like a lot of Re:CoM voice acting. I didn't like Zexion, and Marluxia voice whatsoever, while Larxene voice fit that it made me think of her as even more of a beotch, and it was funny hearing 15 year old Sora in his 13 year old form. Derek Stephen Prince fought tooth and nail for Vexen so much that he thought he wouldn't even have a chance of getting him from when he audtioned he even saw Mark Hamill try do a character for the series. (As said by him from when I met him at his last panel) David, Richard, Quinton, and Derek were the only ones I really enjoyed in the game.

But I agree the no lip-syncing made things seem very off due to Re:CoM being under such a low budget.
